Panic? Gun Nuts? Nope. Leadership from the bottom up. If the ‘professionals’ won’t stop a perp we ‘amateurs’ WILL. When politicians, institutions, law fail it is up to the body politic to step in an right the ship and protect itself in the process.
The Democrats are thinking they have a chance for a blow out of the Republicans in the House. History is on their side in this observation. But something tells me that may not be the case this time. The Parkland event, the FBI mess, and Trump in his rough shod American Way getting things done and undone might beat the odds.
Regardless, in a month there will be 300 CW packing teachers in Ohio. Perps beware.

This is EXACTLY as if the School District knew a school was infested with rattlesnakes, but didn’t want to spend the money or effort to get rid of them. So every time a rattlesnake was found by the janitor they told him to simply say “a reptile was found”. Then one day a bunch of school kids are killed by the rattlesnakes and the authorities blame the manufacturer of anti-venom medicine. ANYBODY to blame, except the weasels who set this tragedy up!

a few years back, right after people sat around on their asses in New Orleans waiting to be rescued…and died…a small town in Iowa was threatened with a massively rising Mississippi River that had already destroyed several towns upstream. It was headed right for them!
They had two choices:
(1) Wait for the State & Federal government to come help them shore up the levees and evacuate the town
(2) SAVE THEMSELVES!
The Mayor went on the local Public Access TV and pleaded for 500 people to stay and help build up the levees. Five THOUSAND people stayed and built up the levees, sand-bagged storefronts, dug drainage ditches, etc…
The National Guard and FEMA showed up TWO DAYS AFTER the crest had already moved downstream. I saw an interview with the Mayor where she was justifiably beaming with pride over her town!! And in the background of the TV shot were a bunch of State & Federal folks standing around with NOTHING to do!

I am a big fan of Jordan Peterson the sociology prof out of UoToronto. He has an interesting point of view of the matter. Jest is that ages 1-4 are critical years for social development. Especially the recognition by the child as he/she can hurt so can they be hurt as well. Failure to ingrain that ‘skill’ by 5 means they never acquire that skill later. So that teacher is on the right path to socialize her more reclusive students.

My only interest in the Winter Olympics was hockey (prior to pros playing). This year the NHL skipped the Olympics and the Russian team (that wasn’t officially there) won the Gold. Since today’s best Russian players are in the NHL, I have to assume there was a level playing field.
