Have We Crossed the Rubicon on Immigration?

They say actions speak louder than words:

“Sanctuary attacks pack a punch,” says a four-page memorandum, prepared by the liberal Center for American Progress and the centrist think tank Third Way, that has been shared at about a dozen briefings for Democrats in recent weeks. The New York Times obtained a copy of the memo, whose findings are based on interviews and surveys conducted over the summer.

Many of the Republican attacks use misleading language and employ overblown claims about the dangers of immigrants. But the fear-based appeal demonstrates how Mr. Trump has overcome months of negative headlines about his hard-edge immigration policies to make the issue a potentially profitable one as Republicans try to preserve their slim Senate majority and defy projections that they will lose the House.

Democrats, the strategists who prepared the memo advised, could neutralize the attacks if they responded head-on. But they should spend “as little time as possible” talking about immigration itself, and instead pivot to more fruitful issues for Democrats like health care and taxation. -NYT

You know an argument is won when the party engaged pivots to a different talking point, which is what we are seeing here.

But this is more than just a tactical retreat if the pattern holds into 2020 and beyond. The Democrats have bet the farm on the idea of doing wholesale replacement of major chunks of the populace with immigrants illegal or otherwise. The Democrats have abandoned:

  • Whites
  • Blacks
  • Middle Class
  • Much of Fly Over Country

To then abandon the immigrant as a power base begs the question of what they have left? Die hard progressives, AnfiFA and MSM? Not a winning strategy from where I sit.

There is a danger for the GOPers in this. I don’t want to ascribe to Trump being the cause celeb for this. The immigration issue has been building for multiple election cycles. Trump should get credit for just making it obvious. What happens to the issue when Trump exits? Does it just die or do we get a wall or other solution before that happens?

The Dems only chance to win is by changing the make up of the electorate. Look at Kalifornia, which voted for the Republican candidate in all bet one election from 1948 through 1988,

Look at Texas. It was 80% Anglo in 1970. In 2020 it will become Hispanic plurality

The Dems crossed the Rubicon years ago…Trump is the first Republican President to call them on it.

In Kalifornia they no longer even pretend they aren’t encouraging illegal immigration.

I pray this election keeps the Dems at bay for at least 2 more years. Trump can REALLY kick ass then (assuming the Mueller witch-hunt EVER ends)

    Or non-citizens illegally voting.

In CA the slogan is “healthcare for residents”.
    Residents, you see, includes illegals.
“Residents” are also being appointed to non-elected boards in some areas, another nose under the tent.

I am saddened that all of you RACISTS are jumping all over “poor” Elizabeth SpewsFromTheMouth Warren!

    As a self-identified Black-Female-Islamic-Dyslestic-Gay-Native American I am APPALLED.

P.s., I AM a “Native American”…I was in fact BORN HERE, which makes me a NATIVE.

Trump wins again…. — https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-10-15/stormy-daniels-lawsuit-dismissed-trump-entitled-legal-fees — Court deems he is due legal fees.

You watch, Trump will donate the legal fees to some charity and bump up in the polls.

hey Eph, did you watch the debate last night? I know you don’t like McSally, but damn, that other creature is AWFUL. (I just read an article on the debate)

at least you get to vote for a Republican. In the People’s Republik of Kalifornia we only get to choose between WORSE and WORSER.

JR, I’m voting for the whack job commie De Leon over DiFi.
Enough righties have suggested that plan that I figured I’d support them.

JimNorCal: 95% of the time Feinstein and the far leftie would vote the same way any way. Might as well have a Dem senator saying really nutty things. People in Kalifornia and Oregon will eat it up but it will really turn off “fly-over country.”

    14 Rand,

I haven’t watched a political debate since 1992 when HW looked at his watch every 5 seconds.

BTW, I already voted. Straight GOP.

HimNorCal – well at least we get crazy loon DeLeon out of the majority in the state senate and into a minority in the federal seat. Plus, I hope DiFi gets a total rejection from the voters after the BK attack.
