Without a high wall, too many Americans will lack confidence that we can control our borders, and they therefore will oppose the steady immigration we need. But for this wall to have a big gate, it has to be a smart and compassionate one, one that says, “Besides legitimate asylum seekers, we’ll accept immigrants at a rate at which they can be properly absorbed into our society and work force, and we’ll favor visa seekers with energies and talents that enrich and advance our society.” That’s the opposite of the unstrategic, far-too random, chaotic immigration “system” we have now.

That’s been a “system” in which millions of people could cross into our country illegally or overstay their visas. Or cross over and claim asylum and then melt into society while awaiting their hearings. Or bring in their family members through family reunification programs. And that’s no matter their possible impact on communities and social welfare resources or their ability to assimilate and contribute to society.

We spent Saturday night in Indiana with a sister-in-law and husband, who is a construction union executive (commercial construction). I asked him how things were going. He said that business is booming, but the union is having a problem with jobs being underbid by firms using illegal aliens.

I said, “The economy is booming, but you are having a problem losing good-paying jobs because of illegals. I guess you’re going to vote for Trump.” He was speechless.

    BC,

Down here if you insisted on no-illegal labor to build a house all you would have is the empty lot you just purchased.

Yup, whats amazing is how little his mimicking almost word for word of the POTUS got zero re-play in the rest of the msm late last week, I thought Wolfie was going to have an aneurysm when I saw the video. Not really surprised it’s been memory-holed already, can’t be showing any cracks in the line.

Smells like some BS atm, but could be interesting if he provides needed details later in the week. Fact that he seems to want to drag out the details over coming days seems sketchy.

    5,

Its the start of an elimination round. This is just a prime example of how a person’s past can come back and bite them. Irony is normal folks don’t partake of the freaky stuff so less likely to be tripped up by it. The Left however seems to indulge in it.

I agree with Rush Limbaugh that Thomas Freidman’s article was a way for him to provide cover for the Dem candidates. We’ll see if they take advantage of it.

Little story. SO and I went out to eat to celebrate with a coworker who was retiring. We’re sitting there chatting waiting for the meals. In walks a black woman whom we ascertained was staff as the eatery. You would not think anything about till you realized she looked like she just walked off the decal of an Auntma bottle. From the bandanna tied in a knot in front all the way down. Freaked people out.

    11,

Interesting piece of news. The author is also right in the pending outcome but not the prescription. He is also right in that Americans are getting tired of the endless beltway blather about it. The public is way ahead of the Pols on this:

    * Terminate FISA it was a bad idea from the beginning. Govt wants secret courts, do it in-camera the old fashion way with an appropriate gag application. Or use the Grand Jury process with a smaller pool of citizens in attendance.
    * Prepare to eliminate the Patriot Act or at least large portions of it. That a FBI agent can issue a self signed search warrant is an absolute travesty.
    * The press has to eliminate the practice of anonymous sources, full stop. That was the vehicle the govt used to play the whole lot of them. Robert Knovack was an a$$hole but he nailed sources with seconds before he printed anything and even with all that effort still broke many a lead story.
    * Finally and this is the big point; there needs to be a Nuremberg level trial from Obama on down. All the parties in the dock. None of this tit-tat, he said – she said, endless trials with most of it played out on TV. You won’t get to the truth unless all the liars are in the room. Start with the little fish and work your way up. Bypass the lower courts, have the Chief Justice in attendance to terminate the assured endless appeals.
    * The epilogue is that there IS jail time and possibly there should be a public hanging (something not done in well over a century by the way) or two. If you are a govt employee you are REQUIRED to watch so that the message is clear — subvert the public trust and THIS is your future.

Aaaaah I feel better now. Let it be written, let it be done.

Internal problems of the USA point in the direction of states and whole regions stealthily seceding from a federal system that can’t run itself competently at scale anymore.

    — James Kunstler

I would add, that is we are lucky we might, thru some minor pain, revert back to an 1840 like understanding of the Federalist system. The 17th Amend would need to be repealed of course. But distributed systems are more resilient than monolithic solutions.

Old article, but a reminder that NOTHING was ever done to seek out those who betrayed Seal Team Six. It was obvious Biden & Obama were involved…but who else?
