Where Medicare for All Will Take Us

Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia was founded in 1848. Affiliated with Drexel University, it is renowned as one finest teaching facilities in the US for training both medical and nursing students.

Hahnemann is the hospital where Grace Kelly was born and where Gerald Ford was treated when he had a heart attack in Philadelphia at the 2000 GOP convention.

After 171 years, Hahnemann will be closing in September. Being a hospital in Philadelphia’s Center City, its trauma center is where many of the city’s gunshot and knifing victims are taken. And, since Philadelphia is a “sanctuary city,” there are plenty of illegal aliens in addition to the city’s poor who use Hahnemann’s emergency room as a doctor’s office. The management of the hospital decided it can no longer lose $3-million a month so it will shut its doors. This means another inner city hospital will be forced to accept these patients and incur the losses that come with treating them. They likely will make similar decisions a few years down the road.

This is the same experience many smaller, less famous hospitals have faced in recent years when the money from paying patients can no longer cover the loss from non-paying patients and patients for whom Medicare/Medicaid does cover the full cost of medical services.

Yet, the Democrats want health care for all, including illegal aliens. This, coupled with decriminalizing being in the US illegally, will serve as a magnet to attract people with serious medical problems from around the world.

Someone (mostly working class Americans) will foot the bill, but that’s an issue the media never seems to question Democrats about.

Very simply, it will create two very distinct medical systems: (1) Elites (2) everyone else

The Elites (wealth, political power, entertainers, etc) will enjoy the same or even better medical care…everyone else will suffer, MASSIVELY.

The Proles will have long lines and wait times, sub-standard care, restrictions on medical procedures, and denial of care based on Actuarial Analysis.

England is the model…but it will be even worse here.

Saw a video segment a week ago and a reporter ask what would happen if hospitals were all paid at Medicare rates — “They would all close”, was the administrators answer. That’s the difference between ‘medical assurance’ (its not insurance) and medical treatment. Having the former does not translate into receiving the latter. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

    1,

I would also offer that medical vacations will be on the rise. I had my cataracts removed in Russia. Cost was about $800/eye. Here it would have been about $4000/eye. Even if cronyism did not raise its ugly head, care will degrade. Once the govt has it all, the doctors are all now GS13’s with the attendant ‘I don’t give a damn attitude’ to go with it.

Exactly where the Brits are now. When Mick Jagger had heart surgery, he came to the States.

In addition to the two-class structure that is socialism, doctors and nurses will have far greater workloads with universal healthcare. They will be retiring at younger ages. My GP is 72, but he’s going strong.

With open boarders and decriminalization of being in the US illegally, people with serious illnesses will be flocking to this country.

Countries with universal healthcare (e.g. Denmark) only make it available to citizens.

Where will we get the medical professionals to handle the caseload? Not too many sneaking across the southern border with their possessions in a WalMart bag are doctors and nurses,

Utter and complete lack of self-awareness and any shred of professionalism by this Law “Professor”.
The word “Prejudice” means to PRE-judge someone. In this case this “professor” PRE-JUDGES the student…assumes the worst…and goes from there. And this character teaches LAW. The bias is all one way.

Many hospitals in California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and even Ohio (St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton) have been forced to close when their aren’t enough paying patients to subsidize non-paying patients and under-paying patients.

At Parkland Hospital, where they took JFK when he was shot, over 70% of mothers giving birth in 2010 were illegal aliens. Today the percentage is likely much higher. How many paid the standard charges?

“How many paid the standard charges?” Close, but not quite. The real question should be “How many paid nothing?” And yes Parkland is Anchor Baby Central in the north texas area. Last I heard one out of three pregnancies are a skip out on paying the bills.

I’ve posted this before, but our 50 year old hospital closed in 2014 because of illegals. They lost $6 million that year alone in a town with a population of 40K. At the last board meeting, they were considering closing the maternity ward when one member stood up and said all you’re doing is removing beds. The pregnancies will just walk into emergency when they go into labor and by law you can’t refuse them. The vote then changed to shut down.

This is 12 years old, but it’s a 10-year recap of California hospitals that have either completely closed or closed their emergency rooms.

Unfortunately, political correctness prevents us from discussing the real reasons for many of the closures, just as we can’t discuss the impact of the 72% black illegitimacy rate on “inequality.”

#13 ~ The hospital closed and an urgent care was set up. So it’s basic emergency with no inpatient care. Ends the maternity issue because even if you walk in in labor, you’re going to be transferred with no overnight care. Basically the problem has just been deferred to surrounding areas and I expect they will be experiencing closures soon as well.

Providing indigent public health care services is akin to a locust swarm. Locusts swarm to the next patch of grass then consume it whole. Indigents do the same to hospitals.

6 – Given who’s involved seems to me this is about getting him to “compose” and attempt to drag in a certain person, and nothing to do with justice.
