A Human Right

More like a Human Wrong. I had this exchange on Medium, yeah don’t waste your time on that place….

I had this exchange with an individual who made a comment.

Me:

Aaaaah yes. Great plan. Provide a so, so medicare for all ala Obamacare. Then double your income tax and triple your payroll tax to pay for it all. Not my guess, that comes direct from the CBO analysis.

Her:

I believe healthcare is a human right; I believe that if most other Western developed nations can figure it out, then we (the richest nation in the history of the world) can too. I believe that analysis is faulty. The wealth tax is a fabulous plan and would provide most of the funding. Every single person in the US deserves access to healthcare, Elizabeth Warren can get us there.

Me:

Any ‘right’ that demands that another party be enslaved to provide it is not a right. As free speech I can tell you that you are wrong. You suffered no loss since you can choose to ignore me. Any service, and medicine is one, that requires that the provider be forced by the State to deliver those services at what the State deems ‘proper pricing’ is not a right.

I suggest you go talk to a native American Indian and ask them what they think of state provided healthcare. They have been living it for over 100 years and it quite honestly stinks.

I don’t provide the individuals name to protect them. But they bill themselves as a ‘political economist’ and ‘feminist’. By political economist I assume that is some ginned up moniker at some university which means a deluded 20-something whose brain is full of mush. A ‘political economist’ does not exist, even in the frothy political world of the US. Great career choice. Onward!

We already know that if Medicare-for-all is going to use the current Medicare rates the hospitals will close. It won’t just be the rural hospitals either, but nearly all of them except those that can operate on cash only as a concierge service. A high percentage of doctors considered quitting the profession due to concerns over Obamacare. If thanks to the likes of Warren, we have a single payer State run system the exodus will be a stampede. The system will either collapse outright or degrade to something akin to your local DMV at which point you might as well see the Chinese herbalist in your area.

As to the young ladies disbelief in the CBO figures. Here are some facts here, and here

Downstream Effects

Well first, remember that 83% figure of doctors leaving due to concerns over Obamacare? Well they would come to fruition under a Medicare-for-all plan. Medicare for the most part is a loss leader in most practices, way to fill time slots. The payouts are less than provided costs and the time lag between service delivered and payment tendered is worse than the standards on student loan debt. And medicaid? Don’t even think of it, its just a flat out loss.

Hospitals closing would be the next syringe to drop. Patients would have to travel longer distances for procedures with attendant loss time on the job. That means more production losses to the private sector. Oh and while we are at it, those companies that attracted employees due to gold plated benefits will no longer have the advantage. Employees would leave since the benefits (such that they are) are portable.

Over the long run as the system delivers no savings and costs skyrocket, as well as the taxes to support it, remedial measures will come in vogue. And to who will those remedial measures be applied? To the same groups that are out-sized consumers of the services – the very young and the very old. We literally reach a Logan’s Run kind of mindset to eliminate costs from the system. Or put another way we march down the road to disposable people. Thanks to the Planned Parenthood they are already harvesting body organs from abortions they perform. The other end of the spectrum? But I am 35! I don’t have to worry about any of that…. Well except you can expect other plans for YOU. Look the government is now paying for your medical services, irrespective of the fact they extract it from you by the barrel of a gun. (funny how that works.) Since they are doing YOU such a wonderful thing they will expect you to do YOUR part:

  • BMI too high? No more Ben and Jerry’s for you.
  • Control of food selections.
  • You don’t exercise, have we got a plan for you!
  • Use of mental health as a means to control you. (Has your doctor asked if you own a gun yet?)
  • Mandated physicals to assure enforcement.

The Moral Question

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

– 13th Amendment to the Bill of Rights

An a concise definition:

Involuntary servitude or involuntary slavery is a United States legal and constitutional term for a person laboring against that person’s will to benefit another, under some form of coercion other than the worker’s financial needs.

Note that one does not have to be incarcerated to be in Involuntary servitude.

Involuntary servitude will be the statutory penumbra of a Medicare-for-all scheme. Even the existing scheme fits the definition. Only doctors reserve the right to not accept Medicare patients currently. Under a single payer scheme that would no longer be the case. To accept any patients the govt would require the doctor to accept ONLY Medicare. Couple that with the fact that as currently designed Medicare is not a profitable condition for most practitioners. So in effect you would have physicians working in an economically disadvantaged position, the very definition of servitude.

To conclude, its bad law, bad economics, and a fraud.

Most Western developed countries that provided universal healthcare had two things in common: 1.very few uneducated, unskilled people who lived off the government prior to retirement and 2. Virtually no defense costs because the US was providing defense. Now all that is changing with the migrant invasion and Trump forcing them to pay a greater share to NATO. In the US over 70% of black babies are illegitimate and their mothers are likely on welfare plus illegal aliens.

Today countries like Sweden are enjoying the “benefits” of diversity: increased crime and welfare costs, people who don’t want to assimilate, etc. Let’s see how that model plays out in present day Europe when a larger portion of the population doesn’t contribute.

Besides, I thought Western developed countries are BAD.

The LA Times recently ran a “tear jerker” about a woman who as dropping welfare benefits for fear of being deported. She was from Mexico, had been in the US illegally for 15 years and had seven anchor babies. No mention of dad(s). Think what that costs the taxpayers.

    brilliant post, drdog.

the other fallout from “Medicare for all” will be that most (if not all) really good medical practitioners (doctors, nurses, technicians) will be hired away to work at “Wellness Clinics” (or some such) catering to the “Elite”. Creative naming (and lots of money) will shelter these establishments. Cuba, Great Britain, et al, use such a dodge for their “Elite”. The quality and availability of medical care available to the rest of us will quickly spiral down.

excellent, though long, analysis by VDH. I’m glad he calls out Drudge in the article.

    JR #4 –

Just as the wealthy from countries with universal health care (Canada, Britain, etc.) come to the US when they are seriously ill. A recent example is Mick Jagger.

    JR,

I fully expect that if Medicare for all becomes reality, we will see medical cruises develop. A fully equipped hospital ship. Docks where ever, assembles the patients, heads offshore, services are delivered, the whole assembly arriving at a exotic port of call. Out of the reach of rules, lawyers, politicians.

“If you strike the King, you must kill the King.”

The Democrats impeachment strategy is flawed. They will succeed doing it. But won’t get a conviction in the Senate. So Trump remains in office. If the Stars are aligned, Trump beats WhomEver in Nov 2020. THAT has to be the Dims worst nightmare, yet they are setting it up.

An impeached Trump with a second term is a political wrecking ball. He can start an earnest effort to declassify everything. He gets to select another judge for SCOTUS, if not before then. He continues to reshape the judiciary to a more conservative bent. Might even be able to prove Obama started the whole Russiagate problem.

    Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I think so. I hope so.
But the Senate has its snakes. Also cowardly types that fold when the MSM assembles a fake surge of concern.

9 – 60 with the usual snakes is pretty easy, 67 is tough, but that assumes some rational thinking, which appears more and more non existent everywhere I look.

“He can start an earnest effort to declassify everything.” — That this hasn’t be done from the starting gate is one of many reasons the coup continues onward.

It’s worth noting that while most, if not all, of the Democrat schemes (Green New Deal, Medicare For All, etc) would collapse our country, the Progressives view that as a FEATURE, not a bug. They don’t want to “remodel” America…they want to DEMOLISH it, so they can rebuild it in THEIR image.

    18,

Yes they do. But as one infamous occupant of the WH has opined — “You didn’t build that…”. The Progs can’t build nutt’n.

19, but the Progs don’t WANT to build nuthin. They just want POWER, and universal misery is a great way to achieve that. People will literally eat sawdust’ when they’re starving…until the government shows up with “free” food. The only price: COMPLIANCE.
