Game Play

Or how to blow an election without really trying.

“The idea should be to keep the impeachment going as long as possible, with new testimonies and new releases of disclosures of alleged corruption and treason on a regular basis.

“Looking at impeachment as a process for removing the president is the wrong way of thinking about it. Looking at it as a key that gives access to investigative tools is the smarter, more strategic, way of looking at it.

“Ideally, it will get so bad for Trump that the Republicans will end up putting up someone else to run in the general election.

“But keeping him under investigation, at least through the November election, will increasingly erode the support of both Trump and the Republican party brand, making a Democratic takeover of the Senate and the White House, and an increased control of the House even more likely.”

And who is Bob Kall? Here is all you need to know about this slime bucket.

So we know the game play being utilized. How about a little SWOT analysis of the approach?

Strength

The obvious one is that the Dims can play this card till next November. They hold the chairmanships till the next election cycle. They have the press for cover and the intelligence community as back up.

Weakness

The primary problem with this approach is that it depends on an error on the part of the opponent. That has generally not been a way to win a political point of view or an election. You have to win outright, not by technical error.

The other problem is the Clintonistas did a deep dive oppo research on Trump in the run up to the ’16 election and found nothing that would stick. Trump is crude, odd ball at times, bombastic even given to fits of anger. But none of that was a vote stopper because Trump for all his faults is a known, known and the electorate already knows his warts and voted for him anyway.

Opportunity

They may actually stumble across something that could change the election dynamic.

Threat

Myriad. The electorate is already tired of Congressional gamesmanship. Its why Trump got elected in the first place. Their thrusts could backfire just like the Ukraniangate events are currently unfolding. The worst case is the electorate finally sees the Dims as a party unfit to lead a nation and leaves it for a generation.

The idea that the Dims can drag this all out will become more irrelevant as time moves on. Hell, look at CNN. Once Maddow had no more innuendo to parley their viewership tanked. And that is among deep left libs. The moderates in the Black and Hispanic communities are waking up to the fact that ‘Orange Man Bad’ does not even make a good TV title, let alone a campaign slogan. The IG report is coming…. the Dims know it is bad. The Biden corruption has sunk their point man. Warren is moving up and she has as much gravitas as a second rate college professor, which she was.

The intelligence community, if the best you can do is a third rate hack on events not heard first hand (at least admitted to), declare a whistle blower report and fail. Well lets just say Congress needs to seriously look at CIA and NSA budgets. We are blowing first rate money on third rate results of which most of it is wrong. (eg Shah, Iran today, Iraq, etc)

To borrow a basketball reference, the impeachment gambit is a 4 corner defense strategy. The problem is that its a tactic used by the team in the lead to run out the clock. The Dims are 6 points behind.

Will there be a crisis developing out of the fact that Dems are not doing anything other than impeachment?
Like, will they try to get by on a Continuing Resolution again instead of a budget?

drdog, the only problem with the basketball analogy is this: the Dems OWN the referees (media)

Bob Kall knows that the media will hype endlessly EVERY allegation…and NEVER question the Dems.

I fear that Americans will grow so weary that some Democrat will promise to “unite America” and they will actually believe them…or pretend to “Hope & Change 2.0”

    3,

JR, you could be right. The only saving grace is impeachment does not even make the top 20 list of American concerns. And referee? They are less creditable than Congress and they are lower than a snakes belly.

    5,6,

Could be more accurate than we know. I have heard rumors that big money donors will not donate to Warren who intends to tax gut them if she is in the WH.

    16,

More than you can imagine. Liberal Arts colleges are dropping like flies. Especially in the Northeast. Reports are half of the LACs will be gone in the next decade. Most are seeing freshmen enrollments drop by half. Some have even decided not to have a freshmen class start their enrollments are so low.
