Not Cut and Dried

Last week the Democrats were touting the special election in North Carolina’s 9th District as the first major contest of the 2020 cycle, and the polls indicated that Democrat Dan McCready might win what should be a pretty safe GOP seat. By Wednesday morning, after Republican Dan Bishop had won, their focus had shifted and much commentary was devoted to his “thin margin of victory.” Little notice was taken of certain voting patterns that should frighten the Democrats. Specifically, McCready did far worse than expected in every county but one, and many of those counties are dominated by minority voters.

The most unnerving example, from the Democratic perspective, is rural Robeson County. The ethnic makeup of this county is as follows: Native American (38.6%), White (25.7%), Black (24%), Hispanic (8.52%), Two or More Races (2.15%), Asian (0.66%), Other (0.275%). On Tuesday the Democrat received a fraction of the votes he received in 2018, running for the same seat. Ryan Matsumoto of Inside Elections provides the gory details: “McCready won Robeson County by only 1.11 points, a MASSIVE decrease from his 15.31 point margin last November.” In 2012, Obama carried Robeson by 17 points.

This is a county of about 143,000, and 74 percent of these folks are clearly not the racist rednecks the Democrats would have us believe make up most of the Trump/GOP base. The shift away from McCready was the result of disenchantment among minority voters with the Democrat. Moreover, though Robeson was the most obvious, it was by no means the only ethnically diverse county whose voters “walked away.” Nearly 60 percent of Cumberland County’s approximately 333,000 residents are Black, Hispanic, or a member of some other minority group. McCready won it in 2018. Dan Bishop won Cumberland on Tuesday.

Much the same scenario was played out in every county except the affluent white areas of Mecklenburg County, the only place where the Democrat improved on his 2018 performance. Bishop only flipped two new counties from blue to red, but he turned several from dark blue to pale blue, reducing McCready’s margins in enough ethnically diverse rural counties to win. So, what’s going on here? The answer will be obvious to all but the willfully blind. Despite consistent attempts by the Democrats to frighten minorities with evidence-free claims that the economy is faltering, no one is buying that tale.

A Harvard-Harris poll released in early September asked the question, “How strong do you think the U.S. economy is today?” A majority of Blacks (53%) answered, “Strong.” In answer to the same question, a majority of Hispanics (54%) gave the same answer. These are far higher marks than any GOP president has received, particularly from Blacks. It isn’t necessary to consult the Delphic Oracle to discover why they are responding in this fashion. Black unemployment hit 5.5 percent in August, the lowest rate on record. Breitbart points out a secondary effect of this record overlooked by most of the “news” media:

Am Spec

First off I think we can all agree that this special election should not have even been close. If historical patterns are compared it should not have been. But that is the lay of the land these day in many formerly strong GOP areas.

But the back story on this election is that if a GOP candidate can produce results AND take the rhetoric of the Progs head on, even staunchly Left leaning ethnic groups can be brought over. The key is walking the talk and bypassing the usual ethnic gatekeepers.

Get a clue GOP, the days of being ‘slightly-less-nasty-than-Democrats’ is over. It is now political warfare each time, every time. We Win, They Lose; draws are essentially a loss waiting to happen down the road. Trump is holding a Pusan perimeter. Come 2024 you better have a MacArthur for Inchon or its a slow roll to serfdom.

If blacks and other POCs came up short but the result was not blowout, I guess it means that white, Prog voters have stiffened?

I’m sure the media will spin this however it can to benefit the Democrats.

Perhaps the dumbest voters of all are “affluent whites.” They love virtue signaling.

Plus McReady is a young, former Marine, with MODERATE views…essentially ran as a Republcan. AND, much of the District still had a bad taste in their mouth over the LAST election…that necessitated this one.

    Trump saved the day!

P.s., love the MacArthur analogy, drdog…spot on!

The GOP for the future needs to:

    * Push the economic angle. Reduce barriers so small business can hire more. Also reduce barriers to company formations. Right now we are at the lowest point on company formations in our 300yr history. Especially in CA having just passed the bill strangling gig economy workers.

Push the story on economic disaster our inner cities have become. Lay it on the Democrats. Then for once have an Urban development plan that works. (eg: tax free zones and fast track no reg environment.) GOP survival depends on taking back a fair share of the urban space. Might as well take that fight to Illinois as they need the alternative and if it works there it can elsewhere.

    * Have a cultural message that is with the times. GamerGate is an example. The backlash that erupted upended the liberal/media intrusion that was happening. Gamers as an age group are ripe for a Liberty message for our times. (why do you think they game? Because they can do in virtual which they has been told is ‘bad’ in the physical.)

Yes that means the folks with the purple hair and tats with the glazed jolt cola twitch need to be encouraged to join the fight. It means going our own way and delivering a platform that values the 1st Amendment. We Boomers won’t last forever and once we’re gone then what?

    Tally so far, noted at

“House Republicans are now 3-0 in special elections this cycle and, in all three races, the GOP nominee outperformed the 2018 result. In Pennsylvania’s 12th and North Carolina’s 3rd districts, Republicans even outperformed President Donald Trump’s 2016 numbers.”

The liberal media seems to be claiming Lie-A-Watha and Petey Boy were the winners of last night’s debate, which I unfortunately missed because there was an episode of Walker Texas Ranger that I had to see for the 12th time (to see if it had the same ending).

The liberal media was also happy the “disrupters” weren’t there. They’re talking about you Tulsi and Marianne. Funny, they liked “disrupters” at GOP debates four years ago.

Remember the New York Times’ 1619 Project that was the subject of a BJG post last week? Skateboard Beto now wants to make August 20, 1619 (the day the first black slaves arrived in the colonies, as our Independence Day. Hasn’t it dawned on Robert Francis that the United States didn’t even exist until about 160 years later?

Ever notice that the Democrats never mention the Civil War (War Between the States for Mullet, KH and our Texas friends). 625,000 died – more than all other US wars combined.

The fact that Ted Cruz didn’t completely destroy O’Dork in 2018 shows what a poor politician Ted is.

bc3b, the other lesson from the Cruz vs O’Rourke matchup was that when the media focuses MASSIVE attention on CREATING an image, and then MASSIVE outside money comes in, they can sway the masses…and they did. The media did NO reporting on the actual O’Rourke, but instead “reported” 24×7 on the O’Rourke they created. They hid his words and actions over the years, and pumped what little resume he did have. Now with his “I’ll seize your guns” bullshit he should be done in Texas…and elsewhere…I hope.

p.s. my wife and I just renewed our NRA membership today…HER idea 🙂
