One is Funny, One is Not

WUHAN (CAIXIN GLOBAL) – In the coronavirus epidemic, doctors on the front lines take on the greatest risk and best understand the situation. Dr Peng Zhiyong, director of acute medicine at the Wuhan University South Central Hospital, is one of those doctors.

In an interview on Tuesday with Caixin, Dr Peng described his personal experiences in first encountering the disease in early January and quickly grasping its virulent potential and the need for stringent quarantine measures.

As the contagion spread and flooded his ICU, the doctor observed that three weeks seemed to determine the difference between life and death. Patients with stronger immune systems would start to recover in a couple of weeks, but in the second week, some cases would take a turn for the worse.

In the third week, keeping some of these acute patients alive might require extraordinary intervention. For this group, the death rate seems to be 4 per cent to 5 per cent, Dr Peng said. After working his 12-hour daytime shifts, the doctor spends his evenings researching the disease and has summarised his observations in a thesis.

The doctors and nurses at his hospital are overwhelmed with patients. Once they don protective hazmat suits, they go without food, drink and bathroom breaks for their entire shifts. That’s because there aren’t enough of the suits for a mid-shift change, he said.

8 hour shift and can’t take a leak! Not on your life.

Buttigieg penned award-winning essay praising Bernie Sanders while in high school:

Petey Boy’s father was so far left, he made Bernie look conservative.

The Dems are openly sabotaging Sanders again…just like 2016. Even though the Iowa fiasco was just that, and even though the NYTimes reports massive “irregularities”, and even though with all that Petey Boy and Sanders were virtually TIED…the Iowa Dem Party gave Petey Boy 2 extra delegates.

I hope the Sanders folks sit home in November

The article says TWELVE hour shift. Maybe he has a longer than normal shift … or has a camel’s metabolism … or exaggeration involved? The doctors are heroes though.

    JR #4 –

Hopefully you are right. If the Sanders followers don’t vote for a left-wing third party, hopefully they will stay home.

If they have been paying attention, they must have learned from conservatives’ experience that playing along with a political party that keeps screwing you only gets you screwed more.

Petey Boy uses service and his fake Christianity to make voters thing he is less of a left wing radical than he actually is.

    Snip 1 (long article)

But Mr. Buttigieg’s stint in the Navy isn’t as impressive as he makes it out to be. His 2019 memoir is called “Shortest Way Home,” an apt description of his military service. He entered the military through a little-used shortcut: direct commission in the reserves. The usual route to an officer’s commission includes four years at Annapolis or another military academy or months of intense training at Officer Candidate School. ROTC programs send prospective officers to far-flung summer training programs and require military drills during the academic year. Mr. Buttigieg skipped all that—no obstacle courses, no weapons training, no evaluation of his ability or willingness to lead. Paperwork, a health exam and a background check were all it took to make him a naval officer.

    Snip 2

Combat veterans have grumbled for decades about the direct-commission route. The politically connected and other luminaries who receive immediate commissions are disparaged as “pomeranian princes.” Former Trump chief of staff Reince Priebus became a Naval Reserve officer in 2018 at age 46. Hunter Biden, son of the former vice president, accepted a direct commission but was discharged after one month of service for failing a drug test.

Mr. Buttigieg was assigned to a comfortable corner of military life, the Naval Station in Great Lakes, Ill. Paperwork and light exercise were the order of the day. “Working eight-hour days,” he writes, was “a relaxing contrast from my day job, and spending time with sailors from all walks of civilian life, was a healthy antidote to the all absorbing work I had in South Bend.” He calls it “a forced, but welcome, change of pace from the constant activity of being mayor.”

Snip 3: but there’s more than I’m posting

Mr. Buttigieg spent some five months in Afghanistan, where he writes that he remained less busy than he’d been at City Hall, with “more time for reflection and reading than I was used to back home.” He writes that he would take “a laptop and a cigar up to the roof at midnight to pick up a Wi-Fi signal and patch via Skype into a staff meeting at home.” The closest he came to combat was ferrying other staffers around in an SUV: In his campaign kickoff speech last April he referred to “119 trips I took outside the wire, driving or guarding a vehicle.” That’s a strange thing to count. Combat sorties in an F-18 are carefully logged. Driving a car isn’t.

    Interesting Jim,

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

For your consideration. To make lives easier all ’round, consider using http://archive.today. This accomplishes two things –

    * The tool is pretty good at getting behind paywalls.
    * It has the ability to reduce click bait by not giving all these @#%^Q#$% websites the hits.

I do not know what their level of persistence is for archiving but I assume it is short lived. I now return you to your normally scheduled postings.

1 – Pretty sure Beijing had cases going back 2 weeks, though it was just a handful. The lock down is definitely new though, interesting they’re still using the 14 figure in that announcement.

On the cruse ship, I agree with Japs in quarantining, but it seems odd to me that
    a) They haven’t even bothered testing everyone on the ship (maybe they only have limited number of test kits?), seems they’re only testing people who start getting sick, which seems bit backward at this point.
    b) Those they have tested and showed up negative – should be moved off ship to a separate monitoring facility(even if it’s just controlled tents at the port), else all they’re doing is keeping what otherwise may be uninfected constantly exposed as near everyone will eventually get it. idk what the thinking there is.
    c) overall I can’t blame them though – protecting their own country at all costs.

4 – Yup, and frankly Bernie largely doesn’t even care, just like last time. Though I don’t expect many of his voters to see this, nor do I expect most will stay home in November, but I hope i’m wrong about the latter.

19 – It’s a smart attempt to pump the base, steal a little of their thunder and press, while also letting NH know he’s not forgotten they gave them his first win. He only lost NH in the general by ~3000 votes, and Ayotte was a moron not asking for a recount on that, ~1010 vote difference in her race. But she was always useless anyway so good riddance. I noticed via oan potus been doing some black associated type event every few days the last 3 weeks, largely uncovered – hell only reason I even know it is cause they carry most\all his remarks (whereever) live. Nobody can accuse him of not at least trying for the vote.

Sixth Grade Teacher Asks Class Uncomfortable Question — Has Student Threatening Her Job
Kids these days don’t do their homework and it shows
    https://www.upliftingtoday….

A sixth grade science teacher named Mrs. Parks asked her class, “which human body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?”

No one answered until little Mary stood up and said, “You should not be asking sixth-graders a question like that! I’m going to tell my parents, and they will go and tell the principal, who will then fire you!”

Mrs. Parks ignored her and asked the question again, “Which body part increases to 10 times its size when stimulated?”

Little Mary’s mouth fell open. Then she said to those around her, “Boy, is she going to get in big trouble!”

The teacher continued to ignore her and said to the class, “Anybody?”

Finally, Billy stood up, looked around nervously, and said, “The body part that increases 10 times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye.”

Mrs. Parks said, “Very good, Billy,” then turned to Mary and continued. “As for you, young lady, I have three things to say: One, you have a dirty mind. Two, you didn’t read your homework. And three, one day you are going to be very, very disappointed.”

25 – Meanwhile more businesses were allowed to reopen today in china than initially expected, granted it was in many locations where the cases were few or at least manageable but I was surprised at the number of offices reopened albeit at limited capacity. Either that’s a good sign, ooor the chi-coms just know virus or not the economic reality, that they really could not keep nearly everything closed entirely much longer with out a whole set of new problems kicking and making a tough problem arguably worse.

But for those of you who’ve studied Biology… do viruses die? I thought they mostly went dormant hoping to get a chance to infect a cell some day. As dried up husks I thought viruses could survive decades or even centuries

28 – Depends on the virus, supposedly… this one dies after about 9 days without a host on a hard surface (but that was in a controlled environment). For the record I don’t know jack beyond basic HS biology, which I aslo hated and definitely skipped out on a few times (last period of the day).

The question is, does Trump have the nerve to take the kill shot on Biden? Trump to Biden — “Its either you or your son. Choose.”
