The Re-shaping of our Political Parties
Fifty years ago the Democratic Party was widely (and perhaps incorrectly) viewed as the party of the average Joe while the GOP was viewed as the party of the wealthy and elitists.
Since the days of FDR the Democrats have been a party bound together by appealing to a coalition of demographic groups (Catholics, Jews, blacks, union members, immigrants, urban dwellers, etc.). The Democrats are still a party bound together by appealing to demographic groups, but the coalition and the ranking has dramatically shifted as as newer members of the coalition (Muslims, LBBTQ+ and illegal aliens) now take precedence over blacks and union members. Those holding traditional Catholic beliefs have been told to leave the party by Bernie Sanders and Petey Boy Buttigieg (America’s #1 self-proclaimed Super Christian).
Enter Donald Trump, who has totally shaken up the Republican Party and is working to transform it from a party beholden to special interests (the US Chamber of Commerce, neocons, the National Association of Manufacturers, etc.) into a nationalist populist party that has suddenly become far more attractive to groups that seldom considered voting Republican before (working class Americans of all races, colors and nationalities as well as Catholics, religious Jews, etc.). On the other hand, many elitists have already left the GOP, having become Democrats – e.g. Bill Kristol – or independents.
Then there’s the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries. At one time there were more than 20 contenders/pretenders in the Democratic Clown Car. Now it’s down to 6-7 who generally agree on a number of issues: abortion without restrictions, open borders, amnesty for illegal aliens, reparations, health care for illegals, more government and regulations and lots of free stuff. While Candidate A and Candidate B hold the same beliefs, their perception among Democratic voters is very different. The farthest left members of the Democratic base support Bernie Sanders and believe the Democratic Party robbed him of the nomination in 2016. Others, even crackpots like Chris Matthews, believe that because – unlike the other candidates – Sanders actually tells the truth about his plans, he could lose in a McGovernesqe landslide that could firmly place both houses of Congress in the hands of the GOP. That means four more years of Constutionalist judges appointed by Trump.
Enter Mini Mike Bloomberg, who many Democrats see as their salvation now that Joe Biden’s polling has dropped like a boulder. Mini Mike is one of two billionaires seeking the nomination of the party that professes to hate the rich. If Bernie is denied the nomination for a second time and if Mini Mike is successful in buying the nomination, a major revolt by the far-far left is very possible. They will be far more upset than they were in 2016 for two reasons: 1. their hero got screwed for a second time and 2. unlike Hillary, who gained the nomination through manipulation, Mini Mike will have actually bought it, which they will consider much worse. While they won’t vote for Donald Trump, they may vote for the Green Party or some other ultra-left splinter party like the Working Families Party. A vote for the Green Party candidate is almost as good as a vote for Trump.
Like the Republicans for decades, the Democrats don’t seem to realize the negative impact of alienating a major portion of its base. But, unlike conservative Republicans, the far-left are far less inclined to vote for what it considers the “lesser of two evils.” There could even be a replay of the 1968 Democratic convention in Milwaukee this summer.
Pop some corn and open a Yuengling (if you are lucky enough to have one). This is going to be like watching a demolition derby.

He’s not dead though, what kills campaigns the most is $$$ drying up, even low energy jeb! eventually ran out, Farmer Mini-Mike™ doesn’t have that problem, so I see him far from dead atm.

I guess mini Mike was hit hard, so you can understand if he’s thinking “oy vey, what have I done?”
I liked this comment at PowerLine

Any question as to whether the Mormon Church controls Utah politics?

Reading the comments at Yahoo News, one of the few liberal news sites that still permits comments, it was not a good night for the Dems.

Eph #15 –
The Mormon Church controls Utah politics (and maybe the entire state). While 40% of Utah’s population in non-Mormon, every member of Congress is Mormon and has been for a long time.
That’s likely the reason Mitt carpet-bagged to Utah – it’s likely the only state from which he could have been elected to the Senate.
Mormons make great neighbors. When my wife had our first child, a Mormon neighbor that we barely knew brought over three days worth of food that she had prepared. But, they also make lousy leaders.
GOOD NEWS EPH: Miss Ukraine will be making an appearance at BJG tomorrow just for you as I don’t think you can make it for a full week without her. Nothing wrong with that. As I said when she made her last appearance, she is an incredibly beautiful woman.
[18]
BC,
My point is that, I have no problem with polygamy. Thanks to the Supreme Court.
[19]
15 – One of those two situations can produce children?
[20]
17,
Funny thing BC, I don’t think the Framers would have a single issue with Utah. They envisioned a coalition of individual States, each able to run their own affairs as they see fit. Their only restriction was that a republican form of government was guaranteed.
If some male wants 3 wives well not my problem so long as they do not become a public charge. Personally I would not want the woe 3 wives would bring. Who wants to get in the middle of that cat fight? But that is freedom baby!

22 – Erdo has got himself in a no win situation with Russia over some really really stupid moves of his, and Trump (or at least his state dept) is stupidly backing his ass in an attempt to make a few sales that will only end up being used against us in the future. While the refugee issue is relatively real that’s not why Turkey is trying to invade syria (even more than they already have), otherwise they’d have let this conflict just end in the last week and the problem they’re using for cover would largely end with it. The shit that comes out of erdos mouth in the last month (let alone last couple years) is scary, though nobody is paying attention to it, guy wants the ottoman empire back and he’s very serious about it.
This recent escalation would already have been over if we just backed Russia ( or just told turkey they’re on their own) in their attempt to finish off HTS\alqueda instead of supporting terrorists just to woo turkey temporarily, and makes no mistake it’s just temporarily away from RU. Instead you have US mouthing off about support for his actions which are only going to bolster that lunatic, and future drag out the conflict. Basically trump getting played in this conflict, again, in my opinion – That or he just doing what Israel wants which is for as much chaos in Syria as possible, while we foot the bill for continued involvement, and eu foots the bill of streams of refugees. MIC gonna MIC though i guess. I’m beyond frustrated with this administration on this topic.
Basically if you want more death and destruction…. back Turkey, if you want SCW to be over and us out as quickly as possible backing RU and by extension Assad is the move. Literally the only thing stopping that whole conflict from ending since 2018 has been Turkey and the US sticking it’s nose in creating problems, the “rebels” beyond the jihadist types ended in 2012, and even the battle against what’s been left effectively ended years ago, it’s only US and Turkey and a couple other third party funders that have kept this bs going.
NetNet = Tell turkey not just NO, but fuck No. Hey you wanted the s-400, you got the s-400, have fun with that. Turks are literally invading another country, not their own borders, article 5 doesn’t apply, get wrecked – and by extension hopefully lose his next election which I think is coming up again soon.

22- btw he’s now asked in addition, for US to make it a NFZ and patrol with our own aircraft, which would be madness in current situation, especially since that dipshit just started supplying manpads (in addition to tanks and light armored transports etc) to hts-jihadists last week. Still wondering what idiot in the TAF thought that was a good idea, but since all the generals were wiped years ago I guess nobody should be surprised.

Minor corona update: Iraq has now suspended all airline travel with Iran, due to the virus now showing up there as well in Qom (outbreak 9 deaths unknown # of infected). Note Iran didn’t suspend any travel with chi-coms (and I think still hasnt) out of fear of upsetting them.
