Media Seeking Bailout

2020 April 3
by bc3b

Now the media is seeking a federal bailout (approaching $500-million).

It seems like no one is buying (or advertising in) newspapers any more. Newspaper chains are having layoffs and the ultra-left Tampa Bay Times is cutting back to just two print editions per week.

There are several causes: The first is technology. People stopped buying buggy whips after they started driving automobiles. Why read about the Tigers latest loss (if they ever start playing again) in tomorrow’s Detroit News or Free Press when you can read about it on line immediately after the game ends? There was a time when people searched the Sunday “want ads” when seeking a job. Today, its the last place one would look.

Media bias is an even greater problem. As we have repeatedly stated, according to the Gallup Annual Media Trust Study, 2005 was the last year a majority of Americans said they trusted the media. Why support a media that presents biased (many would say dishonest) news trough local reporters and wire services and opposes everything you believe in?

It’s not just a problem for the local media. During the first quarter of the year.  CNN didn’t have a single program in the top 20. This is in a quarter with a presidential impeachment as well as the coronavirus pandemic. Why? Because Americans are waking up to the fact that CNN is completely dishonest and has zero credibility. During the first Gulf War, nearly 30 years ago, CNN was the first place people turned for news.

Washington (AFP) – The ailing news industry, struggling during a pandemic-induced economic slump, is pressing for new government relief as media outlets scramble to keep covering the health crisis.

News outlets have begun layoffs, furloughs and pay cuts even as readers increasingly turn to the media for reliable information about the coronavirus outbreak.

Many local news organizations are facing “an existential crisis” with the near collapse of advertising revenues, according to a letter from two industry groups to President Donald Trump and congressional leaders.

“We will be engaging with elected representatives in a discussion of options for actions the federal government could take to help sustain our local news ecosystem,” said the letter from the News Media Alliance and America’s Newspapers, which represent hundreds of media groups.

Yahoo is one of few liberal media that still permits comments. They are an interesting ead. Nearly all the commenters condemn the media for its bias and oppose any government support. Yes, Americans are waking up to media dishonesty, but is it too late.

They want the government to buy HALF A BILLION in ads to subsidize them? How about they ask the Democratic Party for payment as campaign workers?

(My wife suggests their employer outsource their jobs to India. And that meanwhile they can get minimum wage jobs in the tourist industry, as they suggested to unemployed loggers, miners, factory workers, farmers, and ranchers.)

I had mixed emotions at first…but have none now. The Captain clearly went way outside his chain-of-command, and it now appears he did NOT need to do so. I don’t expect a Court Martial, but do think him being relieved was the correct call.

    2,

Here’s an even better reason…. The parent companies are already slated to get a bailout, so why should they be allowed to double dip? If they think their news component is that critical then they should be shoving a slice of the largess their way as needed. If the parent company is not willing to do that then why should the taxpayers.

There are plenty of bloggers/alt media doing a fairly decent job and most of them are using merchandising and affiliate sales to prop themselves up.

    Does every state have these?
    https://nypost.com/2020/03/29/as-coronavirus-rages-albanys-health-care-taxes-are-simply-inexcusable/

Northern New York farmer Russ Finley is one of the millions of Americans who make do without health insurance. So when a tree limb fell on his head last month, piercing his cheek and jaw, he knew he would have to pay the full cost of getting his face stitched up.

What he didn’t expect was being walloped all over again by a hefty tax.

His emergency room bill included a “NYS surcharge” of $184.17 on top of the $1,900 he owed the hospital.

“I’m expected to pay a tax I can’t afford, because I don’t have insurance I can afford, due to the fact I have property taxes I can barely afford,” … Most New Yorkers don’t realize it, but every time they go to the hospital, whether for a minor scrape or major surgery, the state adds a 9.6 percent surcharge to their bill. Every time they or their employers buy health insurance, the state imposes a per-person assessment, ranging from $9 a year in Utica to $174 in Manhattan.

F.A. Hayek that explained the true source of our troubles:

“To understand our civilization, one must appreciate that the extended order resulted not from human design or intention but spontaneously: it arose from unintentionally conforming to certain traditional and largely moral practices, many of which men tend to dislike, whose significance they usually fail to understand, whose validity they cannot prove, and which have nonetheless fairly rapidly spread by means of an evolutionary selection - the comparative increase of population and wealth - of those groups that happened to follow them. The unwitting, reluctant, even painful adoption of these practices kept these groups together, increased their access to valuable information of all sorts, and enabled them to be ‘fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it’ (Genesis 1:28). This process is perhaps the least appreciated facet of human evolution.” (Hayek, “The Fatal Conceit” p. 6)

This is why all the politicians and MSM and other so-called “experts” who are seemingly running the economy have no flippin’ clue and are about to destroy civilization… Again, Hayek is the one that got all this figured out:

“We have never designed our economic system. We were not intelligent enough for that. We have stumbled into it and it has carried us to unforeseen heights and given rise to ambitions which may yet lead us to destroy it.” [(Hayek F. A., 1981, p. 164)]

So why does New York with 2-million less people than Florida have 18 times the deaths? Or New York, with about 60% more people than Georgia, have 16 times the deaths? Or New York with 4 times Alabama’s population has 86 times the deaths?

What is wrong with getting in your car and just taking a drive to break the monotony?

    When there are no elections?

When you come home from a different state or city and have to fill out papers showing where you will be for the next 14 days and State Troopers will make unannounced visits to ensure you are complying?

When you are turned around at a checkpoint?

When they decide your business isn’t really essential so they shut off the electric and water?

When they tell you to shelter in place for 2 weeks and it’ll all be better but now extend it another month?

When, under the guise of “Health Checks”, they come knocking on your door to make sure you are home?

When you are not allowed out for groceries or toiletries so you have to accept a rationed product delivered by the military?

When your bank accounts are closed and you are given a special ration card?

When they accuse you of being a carrier so they need to put you in a “FEMA Camp” for quarantine?

When they shut down internet and cellular networks to all but “official communications”?

When it is decided firearms, during a period of “National Emergency”, only belong in the hands of the government?

When they put you in jail because you don’t have the “proper papers” showing a need to be out?

    When will you say, “Enough!”?

The US continues to prevent nearly all commerce from occurring to combat the China coronavirus. Many other countries are following suit. But some countries like Sweden and Brazil are keeping their countries open for business. Data shows that the fatalities related to the coronavirus in these countries are very similar to those in the US.

    two quotes from the article:

==> In the midst of this festival of frivolity, harsh reality landed in Europe. In just ten days, we discovered that neither the tampon issue, nor the participation of transsexuals in the Olympic Games, nor the climate emergency were real problems, nor emergencies, nor anything of the sort. They were just fictitious problems, the pastimes of a generation that hadn’t known tragedy.

==> The reactions of politicians in Europe reflect the bewilderment of those who were living in the Matrix and have just been awakened. Most governments in Europe have moved from denial to chaos. But probably the most vile reaction has been that of the Social Communist government in Spain, which encouraged Spaniards to participate massively in the March 8 feminist rallies, the next day hiding reports that the coronavirus was already out of control in the country — something they may well have to answer for in court. Vice President Carmen Calvo said at the time that to attend the demonstrations was a moral obligation for all Spaniards: “what is at stake is the life” of many people. She was referring to violence against women, I think. It goes to show that Sanchez’s government only tells the truth by accident. Yes, many people’s lives were at stake, as we have unfortunately found out. Now Calvo is recovering from coronavirus, as are most of the members of government who took part in the demonstrations. Of course, the Spanish do not seem to be worried about the government’s taking a few days holiday: It’s worse when they’re actually on the job. The government is currently returning 650,000 defective coronavirus tests bought a few days ago. The president appeared on TV to show them off last Saturday, saying: “These are approved tests and that is very important, very important.” They don’t work. They weren’t from an approved Chinese supplier. Spain has been ripped off. A joke going around here in Spain says: “I took the government’s coronavirus test and… it’s a girl!”

Here are some of my questions about COVID-19:

    1. Is it possible for a person to have more than one virus? If a person has Covid-19 (19), the seasonal flu, and viral pneumonia (VP), and that person dies, is that person said to die from one, two, or all three? Is it possible to determine which virus has had the more significant and deadly impact?

    2. Is it possible for a person to have the flu or VP, and then to contract 19 when they go to the hospital? In other words, can a person have respiratory problems before ever contracting 19; get 19; and have 19 when they are tested, making it seem as if 19 caused the respiratory problems when in fact 19 just tagged along?

    3. I did not know this next thing, but, remember, I am a failing, expelled student when it comes to Biology and Chemistry. Did you know that there is such a thing called Hospital Acquired Pneumonia? There is also Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, which is different and in a separate category from Hospital Acquired Pneumonia.

    4. The following is from the Mount Sinai website. Have you ever heard anyone talk about this:

“Pneumonia is a common illness. It is caused by many different germs. Pneumonia that starts in the hospital tends to be more serious than other lung infections because:

    a. People in the hospital are often very sick and cannot fight off germs.

    b. The types of germs present in a hospital are often more dangerous and more resistant to treatment than those outside in the community. . .

Hospital-acquired pneumonia can also be spread by health care workers, who can pass germs from their hands, clothes, or instruments from one person to another.” (Emphasis added.)

    5. If people are going to the hospital because they feel as if they have 19, and if the hospital is full of people who are suffering from pneumonia, doesn’t it make sense that the person who is coming because of 19 is also going to get pneumonia and get a serious case of hospital-acquired pneumonia?

    6. Before we had drive-thru tests, why did people want to get tested? Let’s say Person A did not have 19. Why would Person A want to go into a situation – a hospital or a clinic – and run the risk that someone in the lobby had 19?

Or, if Person A had 19, why would Person A want to go into the clinic and risk spreading it?

It seems to me that the only reason people wanted to get tested was because they were constantly being encouraged to do so.

But, wouldn’t that put a person in harm’s way, to either get 19 or Hospital Acquired Pneumonia?

Am I crazy? Isn’t this obvious? What’s going on?

    7. Did you know that there was a vaccination for pneumonia?

I am not suggesting that a person get the vaccination. I am not getting it. But, since pneumonia-related respiratory problems are striking fear in the hearts of people, why don’t our so-called experts recommend that terrified people get the vaccination?

Or why aren’t they trying to develop another vaccination for viral pneumonia?

Maybe they are, but they are keeping it quiet, waiting for the right time to yell, “Surprise!”

    8. Let’s forget about 19 for a second. Did you know that pneumonia kills over 2000 children every day? Talk about your global pandemics.

    9. Did you know that the American Lung Association recommends treating pneumonia at home by doing these things:

    a. Taking aspirin or acetaminophen (no aspirin for children);

    b. Drinking plenty of fluids;

    c. No cold medicines because coughing is one way the body works to get rid of an infection;

    d. Drink warm beverages; take steamy baths; use a humidifier; and

    e. Get lots of rest.

In other words, do what all doctors have said for all time in order to get well.

    10. Since coronaviruses, as a class, are one of the viruses that cause the common cold, aren’t we actually tracking the common cold? Would it be a surprise if there were 1% of the world that had the cold at some point in time during the year? 1% of the world is almost 80 million people. In fact, 80 million people would be an extremely low number of people with an annual cold since it is estimated that over 60 million Americans get the common cold.

    11. How is my mailman considered essential?

    12. Am I going to get a refund on my property taxes since I am now required to teach my son at home?

Actually, #12 would be a tremendous blessing…but the thieves will never give it back
