What Nixon Taught Obama and Trump

2020 May 19
by bc3b

Don Surber is rapidly becoming one of my “go to” guys because he is so insightful.

Here’s a column he penned (keyed?) last week and there’s a lot of truth to it:

The shadow of President Richard Milhous Nixon was much longer than his aborted presidency. Nearly a half century after his resignation, he has taught the last 2 presidents very different lessons.

President Donald John Trump learned how to handle the press and the deep state by avoiding the mistakes of President Nixon.

Obama learned that instead of using his campaign people to spy on political opponents, he would just turn the FBI into the KGB and do his evil work. Obama’s thugs lied 17 times to a federal judge to spy on President Trump. Obama did so realizing there would be no penalty, and to date not even a lowly agent has been indicted.

On Fox this morning, President Trump openly admitted he learned from President Nixon’s mistakes.

Our president said, “I study history, and the firing of everybody — I should’ve in one way, but I’m glad I didn’t, because look at the way it turned out. They’re all a bunch of crooks and they got caught.”

Of course he did fire Obama’s No. 1 and No. 2 henchmen at the FBI. Their replacements seem no better. Perhaps General Michael Flynn can be appointed, as a reader suggested.

Our president also said of President Nixon, “Of course there was a difference. No. 1, he may have been guilty. And No. 2, he had tapes all over the place. I wasn’t guilty. I did nothing wrong, and there are no tapes. But I wish there were tapes in my case.”

Notice, the first lesson was not to be guilty.

But President Trump left out his biggest lesson: full disclosure. They said the cover-up was worse than the crime because the crime was penny ante. At every step of the way, he has given his enemies the documents they sought in these attempted frame-ups.

(snip)

Obama released nothing and covered everything up because he knew he could get away with it.

But maybe not. I am after all an eternal optimist. And Weasel Zippers reported, “Obama’s Getting Nervous, Stages Strategic Leak Of Phone Call Saying ‘Rule Of Law Is At Risk’ after DOJ dropped Michael Flynn case.”

The media spent eight years covering for Obama and suppressing any negative news. The greatest example was Fast and Furious. CBS fired Sharyl Atkinson, the one MSM reporter who dared investigate it. The brothers of the presidents of two major news networks (ABC and CBS) were officials of the Obama Administration.

And the media continues to protect Obama as is shown by how they are currently “circling the wagons.”

one of my fears is that Barr and Durham will be so careful about their case they will release it AFTER the election. And, God forbid, Trump loses, the next President will shut the whole prosecution down…with the media CHEERING.

that said, I do think the Obama apparatchiks (including 95% of the media) are getting VERY nervous. Barr’s comments yesterday certainly pointed to real criminal prosecutions…just not (so far) of Obama or Biden.

Undocumented immigrants in California are now allowed to apply for the state’s coronavirus relief program that will pay $500 per person and up to $1,000 per household, according to reports Monday.

The state website opened on Monday and there was so much traffic that the site crashed, the Fresno Bee reported.

    6,

You would think that media folks would be livid for having been ‘played’. The fact that they are NOT says volumes:

    * How in the tank nearly all them are for the DNC.
    * How story lines no longer are determined by media editorial staffs but by individuals in the corporate boardrooms.

    Sad.

The restaurant business has always been tough, but the coronavirus pandemic shutdown has made it far worse. Every Pizza Hut within 12 miles has closed (about 6). I guess becoming the official pizza of the NFL didn’t help much. Burger Kings, Subways, TGI Fridays and many other franchise restaurants have also closed.

4 – Yup, they know the game… give it away before anyone can move to stop it, then claim they can’t get it back if told to do so. I really don’t understand why sanctuary states are getting any money at all… I know that would sucks for everyone in those states, but maybe they should do something about that problem it if they want the cash. Gotta love how many in CA are blocking recall attempts by keeping people from being about to go out and gather signatures.

6/7 – Did anyone really think most of them were being ‘played’? They were co-conspirators, and frankly some of them should be charged as such where ever possible. I really hate saying word ‘media’ or MSM these days because they are nothing more than DNC press office, and should be referred to as such.

BTW when it comes to gov. officials lying on tv etc… Thing is the budget extension passed in mid November 2016 removed the old obscure law that made it illegal to be a government official and lie to the public. Was rarely ever used, but you know they’re was a reason behind that little addition by Ryan and company, cause it was only days later RU,RU,RU went into full force. Interesting timing to suddenly get rid of that law and days\week later current officials start leaking and making ridiculous statement that could and have never been backed up by facts.

13 – Also you can get all the abortions you want with consultation with a dr, but they don’t want you taking a largely safe long used drug that has problematic properties toward Covid-19. Pro-death indeed.
    15 – Jesus.

22- All gonna be ‘no intent™’ d in the end is my guess.

11 – In before yt takes it down.

18 and 6 are related if you ask me, they want to self destruct in the near term, trying to engineer different results than in 2016, by causing desperation, not sure they even care about their own hides so long as the over-all team gets the win. NYNG is already feeding 600k people per-day in NYC alone, and officials are trying to double that by next month – it started out as covid\quartine related deliveries for ‘highly at risk persons’, and has now morphed into just feeding entire areas who can’t afford food. PA and MI seem to want the same heading into the fall, along with a few others, but PA and\or MI are likely gonna be needed to hit 270.

Half the hotel rooms leased sit empty, even proposed scaled back plan now calls for buying out said properties and turning them into permanent housing. Sounds like a inside deal for some to dump their under performing hotel\motel properties and walk away with a nice check from the state, kinda what I thought from the start but it’s more evidence toward it.

My ex-MIL, God rest her soul, could do this everyday of the week.

Personally I find abortion abhorrent. Any woman in my family I would dissuade from doing so. But in a free society a person has a right to make their own mistakes so long as they pay for them right or wrong.

    44,

YOU are the CEO of the company. You have a big presence in China. Trump thru incentives and directives implies you need to bring your production back home (say you make ventilators) You have a choice of 48 states for possible sites:

    * Do you pick a high tax state with state income tax and a bad business environment?
    * Do you pick a state that the governor continues to keep locked down? You don’t want to be experiencing what Elon Musk did in CA, right?

Some of these tyrants are not thinking ahead. CEOs in many companies are assessing their landing zones for their China exit. They are doing the planning now. States like CA, OR, NY, MI whose governors have their heads up their asses are going to lose out. States like TX, FL, GA, NV with minor efforts will be benefiting from this CoVid situation. Guv Abbott has access to a $400m Enterprise Fund to entice businesses here.

These blue guvs are permitting their ideology to override their common sense. Coumo complains about budget shortfalls. Look in the Future Mirror pal, it is not going to get any better.

The ACLU chimed in with very tepid support for the DOJ warning Governors & Mayors that are discriminating against Religious RIGHTS. But then they add this:
==> “The DOJ is increasingly scrutinizing the actions or policies of governors in states that don’t politically align with the Trump administration.”

That is EXACTLY like complaining that “the police focus too much on crime”.

The ONLY politicians discriminating against Religious RIGHTS are DEMOCRATS…so yeah, that’s what the focus of this is.

    44, quite well stated!

One other thing. It’s becoming clear how big a price you pay for prog policies.
For example, Gov Cuomo and the NJ Gov sent Covid-infected seniors back to their elder care facilities. They forced the facilities to take them. They made it so the facilities could not be sued. They kept the identities of the infected secret so there would be no shaming or discrimination against the infected seniors.

Now, thousands of elderly are dead. Not only dead, but dead while all alone and their family forbidden to visit.
To add insult to injury, funerals are not allowed due to social distancing regs.

Schumer has publicly announced he stands beside Cuomo, he’s all-in on the Gov’s policies. The MSM will cover for Cuomo too, of course. But if you are a successful CEO and if you have any cognitive abilities you won’t be fooled.

45- You might be giving many ceo’s too much credit, because for everyone one you think it doing the above with a public company (I agree private ones are more prone toward basic logic)… There is another that will pick the state who’s pols are going to bribe them personally and the company itself with the most money\discounts in the short term, inflate the stock price, and then walk away with a golden before the states does something stupid to damage the company. 😉

“These blue guvs are permitting their ideology to override their common sense.”
This seems to be seen as a feature not a bug these days by way too many, including plenty of ceo’s that are down with getting WOke.

    KH,

A CEO does not rise to the top being a saint. That is a given. I don’t consider the CEO the controlling authority in most companies though. The exception is founders. A CEO can be vain, a Lefty, a Righty, an idiot. Fact I bet on them being idiots. That is why they have a CFO and a Sales Manager. Bribes? Sure, but the biggest bribe of all is being BFF with one of the 5 prime banks. The free money drives the stock buybacks and that enriches the CEO options more than anything anyone else can bring to the table.
