Some Black Lives Don’t Matter

Except to family, friends and fellow officers.

Detroit Police Officer Waldis “Jay” Johnson succumbed this week to a gunshot wound he suffered three years ago when responding to a domestic violence call. Unlike George Floyd, Officer Johnson didn’t have a long rap sheet that included armed robbery. Instead Johnson was a model citizen his entire life. He served in the US Army and was a Detroit Police officer since 2004 and, by all reports, an exemplary policemen.

His funeral was this week. There were no BLM marches. No snot-nosed suburban teens gathered outside the church to protest the death of a black man. Al Sharpton wasn’t there. Joe Biden didn’t deliver a eulogy. Gretchen Whitmer couldn’t be bothered to make the 90 mile trip from Lansing to Detroit.  There was no political benefit to honoring this fine man.

He boxed on the U.S. Army boxing team. As a longtime Detroit police officer, he fought to keep the city safe. And after he was shot in the head during an ambush while responding to a 2017 domestic violence call, for three years he fought for his life.

“He loved the community he served,” police chief James Craig said Wednesday during Johnson’s funeral at Unity Mission Baptist Church in Detroit. “Due to the severity of his injuries, he fought long and hard for his life, which is proof how strong he was.”

Johnson, 48, died May 31 from injuries related to the gunshot wound he sustained on April 30, 2017, when he and partner Darren Weathers responded to a domestic violence call to the Oakman Apartments on Detroit’s west side.

After the officers knocked on the building’s front door, surveillance video showed tenant James Ray loading his .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol as he walked from his apartment to the building entrance.

Ray, 46, opened fire. Weathers shot back, killing the suspect. One of Ray’s rounds struck Johnson in the head.

Weathers put his partner into his squad car and drove him to the hospital. Ten months later, Weathers died in a training accident on Detroit’s southwest side.

After Johnson was shot, his family fell into financial straits and received help from the Dented Badge program, a nonprofit that raises money and provides services for the relatives of slain police officers.

The Collin Rose Memorial Foundation, ran by Wayne State police officer Chris Powell, is also raising money for Johnson’s family. As of Wednesday, about $3,300 had been raised.

Johnson was born June 26, 1971, in Sheffield, Alabama. After high school, he joined the Army, where he joined the boxing team. After his discharge, he moved to Detroit and worked for the city’s Water and Sewerage Department before joining the police force on Aug. 23, 2004.

“He exhibited strength, courage, honor and compassion,” Johnson’s sister-in-law Yolanda Gatson said during Wednesday’s service. “He willingly chose to protect those who are vulnerable. Officer Johnson will be remembered as a passionate hero who trusted God.”

Johnson had been most recently assigned to the 2nd Precinct, and previously served on the department’s Tactical Services Section and the Southwest District.

While serving on the police force, Johnson earned an associate’s degree in business from Henry Ford College in Dearborn.

Johnson earned seven citations during his career. Craig posthumously promoted him to the rank of corporal.

“He believed like many of us that Detroit is one of the most challenging cities, but also one of the most rewarding,” Craig said. “One thing I’ve heard from the people who worked with him: If you served with Waldis, you knew he had your back.”

Survivors include Johnson’s wife, Nicolle Johnson; sons Arin and Jaden; daughter, Piper; mother, Doris (Johnson) Clark; and sisters Yan York, Jasmine Johnson, LaDawn Johnson and Nikki Manus.

Today it’s as unusual to find a straight, white male heading up a major city police department as playing cornerback in the NFL.

It’s going to be an interesting fall. The NFL has given the green light to protests and black college players are feeling persecuted.

I believe that in the NCAA players don’t take the field until after the national anthem is played. At least. that’s the case at Central Michigan.

Unfortunately corporate America is solidly behind the protests.

It’s good to see rioters attacking CNN. In the 1960s responsible journalists did everything possible to quell riots. CNN has been working to intensity/prolong them. and keeps preaching that white cps are persecuting blacks.

Tactically it is probably easy to pull off. All one needs is a police scanner. Calls for police backup will indicate where to deploy AntiFa forces. Once in place you just wait for an opening.

You are likely right. The question is when – if ever – will the NFL realize it has gone too far? The Texans coach says he will kneel with the players.

If you remember, the NFL stopped the Cowboys from putting a decal on their helmets to honor the five officers murdered by the black militant. The Stars had badges on their helmets that season and honored the families in pre-game puck drop ceremonies.

My first job after service was with NCR. At the time they were experimenting with bar codes and the biggest problem was being sure the cashier could easily scan it (without 3-4 tries). RCA came up with a circular bar code called Target, but the problem was that it took up too much space.

The thing this article fails to mention is that the Atlanta Wendy’s where the shooting took place was burned by the mob.

Apparently Wendy’s learned nothing from Target.

I don’t know about Wendy’s place on the hierarchy of wokeness but Target was on my boycott list for being WAY out front for transgender, including letting men in the ladies restrooms.

So, the looting of Target becomes another one of those progressive torpedoes which circled around and hit on the Blue side … like #MeToo.

I am a bit surprised by some of these corporations which have been harshly criticized by the Left. Instead of rewarding those who backed the company, the company caves to the Left. Now, no one values them. The NFL, NASCAR fall into that. It was a long time ago but remember when football was middle America’s sport of choice? Much maligned by the Left. Too patriotic, too Archie Bunker.

Good riddance — — at least the way it is played by most dept SWAT teams. Have had issues with the tactics, not the concept from the get go:

    1) A specialized team take too damn long to assemble. Flash mobs and AntiFa types can burn down a Wendys and be gone before they show up with their eratz MRAP. Any officer beyond his 1 year anniversary date should be trained and serve a SWAT role for at least 6 months with rotations as required. Every cruiser should be so equipped beyond the typical weapons compliment. That way the first officer on the scene has the tools to sit-rep and restrict movement till the full compliment arrives.

    2) Restrict SWAT to its original mission — high ordnance occurrence and hostage situations. Too many depts deploy SWAT for simple warrant searches and seizures for nonviolent interactions.

    Just my take.

The popo across the nation will see a large exodus of those able to retire with full benefits, as well as those with just a few years on the job ,so it won’t be too late to find another career. The only ones left will be the middle range types 8-10 years who already have too much time in to quit, but not enough
to retire. The thin blue line will be chronically short handed nationwide. Anarchy will prevail.

Remember this quote if Trump loses in Novermber.

The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.”
    Adolf Hitler

The Democrats will use Greta whats-her-name, or an American tool just like to her, to push the narrative that we must “Save the Planet…for the children!!” And that in order to SAVE THE PLANET, we must do a lonnnng list of freedom curtailing…for the children.

This is why I say that we 12 months, or less, left to prepare.

There is a reason that the DoI ends with these words —

1 – I wish… lol I didn’t even know any of that crap was happening till this morning (self imposed news blackout since mid day Friday – too much stupid happening to process), I don’t live in the city itself, just relatively close by anyway.

    3 – Already resigned apparently.
ATL city gobment ain’t no different than any other major dem run hell hole, so I’m not surprised at all frankly. I’ve been here 22 years, it was a dem run shithole then, and literally nothings changed since other then like every other major city government they seem to cater to the insane more and more. Though 10 years ago they used to at least pretend to keep business interests\ramifications\revenue in mind. More and more though people are leave Fulton county…only they don’t change their gd voting habits so it’s started polluting the outer counties ALOT over the last 10years, most of which used to be solid red which are now all purple and in the case of one over the 22 years went from purple to dark blue. Think about this, the area (I’d say district but the lines have all been redrawn since 90’s) that elected Newt, voted for Hillary in 2016, as did my own county by a very slim margin, which bush won twice as did mcshitstain and pierreDshitbag. Woodall whom I’m not a fan of, got reelected in my house district in 2018 by about 1000 votes as I recall. The virus is spreading fast around here.

20 – @ImKingFola No it is you. The color of the skin doesn’t change the fucked up mentality involved in all of this nonsense. Nor that of the perp who got shot who somehow thought it was a good idea run from cops at basic dui stop after falling asleep drunk (allegedly at least) in a Wendy’s drive thru.

Worse if you’re gonna run, run, don’t turn around making moves that can easily be called a threat while doing so given the circumstances and location. “But he’s not thinking that at the time” – yeah probably not, which is why it’s a bad idea to run from the 5-0, at a ongoing stop particularly. Who thinks that’s a smart move? Especially these days? Dumb moves have consequences. That said another case of 10 to 100 by the cop though over some relatively minor bs. However it’s at least far more defensible for the cop than what went on in MN. My thinking is you’ve already ID’d him, you have the car (the threat via dui), from the cam footage things seemed pretty calm up to the point of attempt to cuff him. I’m no cop but I’m thinking…ok run dumbass, I’ll call a tow, impound the car, fill out the arrest warrant paperwork, and move on with my night and probably catch up with you later at your home. Chase him down? It’s an option, and probably an initial instinct, but why bother, what’s the on-going\immediate threat to the public if I don’t?

47- 9,943 more to go at a minimum.

I see SCOTUS isn’t interested in doing its job, decides to pass on a bunch of cases we really need it to take up.

  52. 2020 June 15 8:45 am
