No Tolerance for Politically Incorrect “WrongThink”

2020 July 8

There was a time when presidents of Catholic universities were willing to stand up against the secular society and fight for moral values. Today only about 15 Catholic colleges and universities are recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society as “authentically Catholic.” They are smaller schools and if they play sports, it’s at a Division 3 or NAIA level. A few include: Ava Maria University (FL), University of Mary (ND), Benedictine College (KS), Franciscan University of Steubenville and Walsh University (both in Ohio) and University of Dallas. That’s 15 out of approximately 200 Catholic colleges and universities nationally that haven’t bowed to secularism.

I was hoping that Christian colleges and universities were stronger in standing up to the mob and not worshiping at the alter of political correctness, but if Hardin-Simmons (Abilene, TX) is typical, they are no better that so-called Catholic schools.

“The views we express on social media should reflect the values and beliefs we uphold as followers of Christ. We must all use these platforms to build each other up and not tear each other down.”

A female student at Hardin Simmons University in Texas, a Christian school, was subjected to disciplinary measures after making some TikTok videos about Black Lives Matter.

The school president recently explained in a video that she is no longer enrolled at the university.

We can’t share the student’s videos because they have been scrubbed from social media, but she basically questioned why an emphasis is placed on certain crimes based on the race of the people involved.

Sarah Taylor writes at The Blaze:

Christian college student questions BLM in viral video. Now college says she’s no longer enrolled — after a ‘disciplinary process.’

A young woman is no longer enrolled at a Christian college after she went viral for a video in which she criticized the Black Lives Matter movement.

After she reportedly endured a “disciplinary process,” the school says she no longer attends the university.

What are the details?

According to Campus Reform, Ashleigh Brock — a former student at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas — created several TikTok videos in which she reportedly questioned the validity of the Black Lives Matter movement.

In one video, the outlet notes, Brock argued that there is way more outrage when a white person kills a black person than when a black person kills a white person — or even when a black person kills a fellow black person.

In another video, Brock reportedly insists that “all lives matter” — not just black lives.

“Do black lives matter?” she allegedly can be heard asking. “Yes, of course. Do white lives matter? Yes, of course. But I’m not gonna sit here and put each one in a group saying this race matters.”

McKenna Dallmeyer of Campus Reform documented a since-deleted tweet from a user targeting the student for her wrongthink, which read:

This is Ashleigh Brock, she goes to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene,Tx. There needs to be serious consequences for these actions (in actions I mean racism). Not only has she done it one time but she’s done it multiple times! #ashleighbrockisracist

In the video below, Hardin Simmons University President Eric Bruntmyer explains the school’s response to this.

Transcript via Campus Reform:

“As citizens, we have certain rights of freedom of speech in public forums, like many of the social media platforms. However, within the HSU community, that right is always linked with a responsibility as Christians, as well as an inherent responsibility in the consequences of our words and our actions,” Bruntmyer stated in reference to Brock’s posts.

“Social media can be a powerful tool. Used in the wrong way, it can have detrimental consequences, Bruntmyer continued. “The views we express on social media should reflect the values and beliefs we uphold as followers of Christ. We must all use these platforms to build each other up and not tear each other down.”

“As Christians, we are called to love one another as Christ first loved us. We must hold one another accountable to this standard. Hate speech or racist comments are completely unacceptable. We do not want to condone behavior that questions people’s worth, their value, their dignity, or their equality,” Bruntmyer said.

If I had children who were near entering college or already enrolled, I would strongly encourage them to avoid all social media platforms until they graduate.

It’s not like being thrown out of Hardin-Simmons is one of life’s great tragedies. The school has a pathetic 82% acceptance rate and  52% graduation rate (after 6 years) so it’s hardly one of the country’s (or even Abilene’s) better universities. With an 82% acceptance rate, Hardin-Simmons will accept virtually any high school graduate who is breathing and can fork over $30k a year for tuition. It’s not even the best Christian university in Abilene. Abilene Christian University (across town) has a 58% acceptance rate, a 61% graduation rate and over twice the undergrad enrollment.
Texas has a lot of private, church-affiliated universities and few have a worse combination of high acceptance and low graduation than Hardin-Simmons.
Apparently, what this young lady said wasn’t racist, just politically incorrect. These days you can be condemned and even removed from a college simply for being politically incorrect and stating true facts. Wouldn’t it have been an act of Christian kindness for the school to forgive her? Oops, forgot that saying something politically incorrect isn’t a forgivable crime like murder, rape or theft.
For many centuries otherwise honorable – but weak – people like Eric Bruntmyer have been intimidated by mobs and “approved thought.” Had Bruntmyer been living about 2,000 years ago, he may well have been part of a crowd shouting “Crucify Him!”
God has a way of making people’s appearance belie their character – in this case, weakness

Remember when the Covington High kids were on that field trip to DC? And how they were accosted by a whacko activist who was ID’ed as Native American?
Remember how the school and the church stood up for the kids and insisted that the facts come out first before condemnation? No, I don’t recall them shielding the kids, either. The kids were thrown to the wolves.

How could you possibly match that up with Christian values?
What are these church leaders and corporate CEOs thinking?
And our political leaders like Paul “That’s Not Who We Are” Ryan plus the rest of the GOPe.

    Flynn/Sullivan deadline coming up soon.

“Robert Barnes (yeah I’ve been listening to him on Viva Frei a lot) said that the US District Court’s order to Sullivan to dismiss the Flynn case only becomes a true order after fourteen days — 14 days are granted to appeal the ruling, or for the court itself to schedule an en banc rehearing. He said it’s completely normal for Sullivan to not do anything until those 14 days are up.
The Circuit Court ruling was made Wednesday, June 24th.
Those 14 days are up either tomorrow or Friday. (Do you count 14 days from the next full day or what? I dunno. I suspect you count from the next day.)
Anyway, corrupt incompetent Emmit Sullivan will be signing the order to dismiss the Flynn case either tomorrow or Friday, barring any 11th hour order from the court for an en banc rehearing.”

Expect some Asians to wake up.
I think it is ACA-5 which legalizes discrimination against white and Asian for college admission on behalf of black and Hispanic applicants. This is a hot button issue for upwardly mobile Asian parents.

As to the advice of — “If I had children who were near entering college or already enrolled, I would strongly encourage them to avoid all social media platforms until they graduate.” — is the wrong advice. Exactly the opposite is required. —

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? … ” — Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

I’ll be blunt there are only 4 disciplines in higher education worth a shit:

    * IT
    * Chemistry
    * Engineering
    * Accounting

All the rest that in ages past might have been worthwhile are not any longer. They have been taken over by the communists and are nothing but indoctrination centers. Notice I did not include math on the list. That is because it too has been subsumed by the communist manifesto.

Fact one of the few pigeon holes of occupations where having a PhD increases salary is in education. That alone should tell you something. In STEM having a PhD is an economic waste of time.

From a man much wiser than I. Penned in 2015, but it portrays the nut of our issues today —

With all the recent troubles we’re again being invited to an honest and open conversation about race, or said differently, the browbeatings will be resumed. Try this for honest and open: many of us, probably most of us, are tired of your whining, your so-called grievances, your violence and crime, your insults and threats, your witless blather and pornographic demeanor—all of it. You’re not quite 13% of the population yet everything has to be about you, all day, every day. With you, facts aren’t facts, everything’s a kozmik krisis, and abusive confrontations are your go-to.

Here’s the thing: some of us despise you, although fewer than you believe, but most of us plain don’t care about you or your doings. There was a time when we did care, but you betrayed our good will and played us for fools. We laugh about it now, but we actually believed you wanted equal opportunity and mutual respect and to live in harmony—all that stuff. Ain’t it a hoot? Imagine our embarrassment.

We talk among ourselves just like you do. It’s true, we have “frank and open discussions” when you’re not around. Why? Partly because it’s exhausting to tippy-toe around you. Partly because you think it’s your celestial right to tell us what we can say. And partly because you’re alarmingly aggressive or painfully dim-witted by turns. We never know which “you” will pop out of the box, or when. But mainly because you’ve revealed yourself as grasping opportunists without honor or principle. There’s your deal-breaker. There’s more.

During the recent riots you expected us to believe heisting snack food then torching the place was “standing up for justice”. When we didn’t buy it, you told us the looting and arson wasn’t done by the rioters after all, no, all the bad stuff was done by rioters from out of town. Apparently you think it makes a difference to us. And if we don’t fall for that one, you tell us you’re the real victims, you’re the ones “hit hardest” because the neighborhoods you looted and burned are, um, looted and burned.

We’ve never stood in your way but we don’t really care if you have good neighborhoods or not. The evidence says you don’t care either, unless we build and maintain them for you, what your enablers call “investments in urban communities.” They don’t mention the return on our past “investments”. Our former neighborhoods weren’t improved by your arrival. Your contempt for ordinary civility tells us no level of “investment” would make a difference. Listen up. It’s simple. Just like our neighborhoods are our responsibility, so are your neighborhoods your responsibility, not ours. Your clownish leaders will tell you otherwise but they’ve always been your responsibility and they always will be your responsibility. Accept it or don’t, you’re the ones who live in them. There’s more.

Your air conditioned, smart phone equipped, EBT-financed “poverty” doesn’t wash to begin with, yet you’d have us believe poverty causes crime. There’s no payday for assault and rape and random killing. Police say 20% of your criminal violence is related to dope-dealing, okay, business disputes of a sort, but it says the rest of it is largely pro bono. We also notice you have a working knowledge of jury nullification and take pride in not “snitching”, typical gang behavior.

We say “what you think, you do. What you do, you are.” We know what you think—we hear it every waking minute. We know what you do. How could we not know what you are? Just so it gets said, crime causes poverty. It drives away productive people, their businesses and the opportunities you said you wanted. More bad news: you’re free to accuse them of anything you wish but they’re not coming back.

Schools haven’t been educating our kids for a long time. They’re too busy conjuring up new ways to teach yours, in fact, we’re beginning to think yours are the only ones who matter. There’s always some new scheme claiming dazzling success which, in the end, amounts to handing out the answers with the tests, or taking the annoying hard stuff out of the coursework, or entering unearned grades by hand. Whatever they’re doing they’re doing it wrong. Your kids are telling us, in every way they know how, they have neither the interest nor the inclination for academics. Perhaps we should listen. If what they want is “out” it’s worth considering and probably worth encouraging.

You tell us the schools have “failed to meet their needs.” And what are their needs, pray tell? Higher standards and tougher tests? Stricter rules and a dress code? Or some alternate universe where credit is earned for putting teachers in the ER, or for a string of abortions before the tenth grade? If you’d tell us what their needs are we’d at least know what needs we’re failing to meet. Until then we’ll mark it down for what it is, another lame excuse. They’re supposed to be schools, not day care or orphanages or theme parks.

You pester us with the “civil rights movement” of fifty years ago as though it happened last week, with tedious 1960s footage and cloying voice-overs, in an endless loop, like Groundhog Day, decade after decade. It’s understandable, you haven’t met any real resistance since those days. Breaking news: none of it matters any more, it all devolved into just another swindle, an extortion racket, “pay up or we’ll make a stink—and the bad optics are on you”.

Schools now teach something called White Privilege, which claims no overt act is necessary for us to be racist, in fact, absence of such acts is said to be direct evidence. It’s the “original sin” concept in a different wrapper, meaning our putative racism is bone deep and can’t be discharged by good works. Even so, they say we must atone in perpetuity for being white. They suggest we devote our lives in selfless service to you. No. Sorry. Whatever white privilege there may be, it isn’t enough. In fact, being subjected to White Privilege prattle is worth a couple of privileges.

Speaking of privilege, 60% of your college grads—and 20% of all of you—are employed by government. The intent is to create an artificial middle class of course, hence the trivial positions with imaginative titles and weighty salaries. In the lower reaches it’s the quota hires, typically unqualified. It’s a great offer. You pretend you’re doing something useful and we pretend to believe you. The rest of your grads are largely diversity directors, window dressing, teachers of dubious “studies” and improbable “histories”, and similar warehousing schemes for the otherwise unemployable. It’s as good as it’s ever going to get, except for those on the skinny end of the bell curve—for whom we have genuine, i.e., earned respect. You’d be a fool to leave it on the table, for as long as it lasts.

So here’s the deal. If you want to know what we really think of you, the answer is we don’t, unless you’re making yourself unavoidable or we’re cleaning up your latest mess. We can safely rely on you to make astonishingly irresponsible choices and blame us for the consequences. And you’ll demand we make good on them for you. We won’t take a chance on your sincerity ever again. Take it somewhere else, you have no credibility left with us. You’re a net liability, predictable to the point of surety. So we attend to our own lives and our own problems. It’s as it should be. We recommend it. As for you, frankly my dear, we don’t give a damn.

Then again, consider that this pretzel “logic” is still considered GOLDEN TRUTH by the Left:

    The Washington Foreskins.

I think all sports fans and most everybody else will get a kick out of this letter written to the Chicago Tribune. No matter which side you are on in the matter of renaming the Washington Redskins, this guy is hilarious…

This is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page: I agree with our Native American population. I am highly jilted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Let’s ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60’s alive. Gone. It’s offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men’s lives. I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children. The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.

The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing Congress loves.

As a die-hard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than “the Beavers (especially when they play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers???

I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Washington DC.

As I have written before, Central Michigan has the Chippewas nickname and Eastern Michigan used to be the Hurons. About 30 years ago the NCAA decided these were racissst and told the schools to pick new names. Neither tribe wanted the school to drop the nickname, but leftist minds persisted at Eastern so they became the Eagles, the most common nickname among colleges. The pointy-headed liberals basically said, “what do a bunch of dumb Indians know about what offends them.

The Chippewa tribe has enjoyed a long, successful relationship with CMU. Together the school leaders and the tribe elders convinced the NCAA to let the school keep the name.

#17 was indeed a huge truth bomb…and one that cannot be discussed in public any more, even though the issues within are EXACTLY what the country should be talking about.

The working people of America, regardless of race, are being told they must pay more and more for those who won’t work.

And entire race (Caucasions) is being told they must debase themselves for the sins of somebody else’s ancestors.

Another race (Asians) is being told they just work too hard and/or are too smart…so fewer of them will be permitted to attend college.

A once proud people (Americans) are being told they must sit (or kneel) quietly while their 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendment Rights are stripped from.

    And so on.

So what do all the people being told that THEIR lives don’t matter, do? They talk and plan amongst themselves, as resentment grows…but it grows beneath the surface.

My motto has always been: “I don’t care who you are, or what you do, as long as it doesn’t negatively affect me, my family, my community or my country.” The Leftists and their useful idiots are forcing me, and millions like me, to care…and they won’t like result.

Another guy fun to listen to on YouTube is Styxhexenhammer666. The guy is long haired with trimmed beard and mustache but he rips Dems up one side and down another.
    Here’s a sample:

Does the oklahoma ruling mean that any gringo that owns land on the new injun reservation, now loses it???These black robed oligarchs live in a bubble. Why do the GOP appointed scotus peckerwoods seem to always turn out to be deep cover moles. Do they even have a clue what kind of can of worms they have opened, or do they give a crap. The help that Trump gave to these quislings and they knife him in the back.

I see BoP actually revoked Cohen’s furlough over the dinners out guess they didn’t want potus tweeting the comparison between him and stone come next week. That’s if the potus still has a twitter account in a week.

45 – It means feds have LEO authority there and State of OK does not as technical LEO matter.
As for ownership\land rights…. it could get murky but reading the treaty they ceded plenty of things to US government, including rights to occupy the land, transit the land, and take such lands as congress and potus deemed necessary so long as it didn’t interfere with their tribes or other shit at the time and they paid for it, and they also bought a whole shit ton of land in the treaty itself. So idk the whole history but possible us gov later bought up large chunks and transferred it to the state or the state bought it up etc. idk what happens but you know lawyers are rushing to OK tonight to test all kinds of theories to profit off it. I think were scotus came down is it’s very clear in the treaty about only federal law applying to the lands outlined it, however it’s unclear to me what actually remains of the original lands not sold off by them over the last 100+ years. The case at hand, the rape of the 4 year old, apparently did take place on currently head lands though so there is little question about that.

But if scotus is really saying this applies to the whole original area (off their rockers) then there are going to be a lot of people saying then this also means state has no authority to be property taxing anyone in same areas, or requiring state drivers licenses, building codes, etc, etc, etc.

idk if this is accurate but used this as my general guide to text of treaty.

44 – I catch him from time to time too, but he’s too optimistic\naive for me sometimes, which is just a product of his age in underestimating the enemy.
