Chicago Needs Still More Gun Control

2020 August 10
by bc3b

That’s the tired narrative Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot once again spun following a night of well-coordinated looting. It started at midnight and lasted until 5 AM. There were only a few arrests although several Chicago Police officers were injured.

While it followed the shooting of an armed black man who fired at police, the looting didn’t take place until about six hours after the shooting. Rather than acting spontaneously, the all-black looters came well-prepared. They had shopping bags. Cars came by to pick up the loot and there was at least one U-Haul. With hundreds of looters, there were only several arrests.

When a reporter asked Mayor Lightfoot if the city wasn’t being overly lenient with the looters, she went into her well-worn rant about not enough gun control being the problem and placed the blame surrounding states (Wisconsin, Indiana, even Michigan and downstate Illinois) which have less strict gun laws. She didn’t place the blame on a criminal element within the city or the ghetto culture.

There are several problems with Lightfoot’s narrative:

  1. If the fact that it’s easier to obtain guns in Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan, why aren’t a couple dozen people shot and 5+ killed every weekend in cities in those states? Especially in majority black cities like Gary, Hammond, Milwaukee, Benton Harbor or even Detroit? Why hasn’t there been looting in these cities in recent years?
  2. Why aren’t there a slew of shootings and killings in the suburbs – Downers Grove, Naperville, Northbrook or even black suburbs like Olympia Fields, Markham and South Holland?
  3. Guns weren’t used in looting. Looters used hammers, rocks and even cars to smash store windows. The looting had nothing to do with Sunday’s shooting.  People just wanted free stuff and know the odds of being arrested, tried and sent to prison were almost non-existent.

The reasons are simple:

  1. None of the other cities has the level of gang activity that Chicago has.
  2. Chicago is far more permissive than other cities. Detroit’s no-nonsense police chief James Craig said Detroit hasn’t had an outbreak of violence because “our cops don’t retreat.”

Chicago’s problems didn’t start when Lori Lightfoot became mayor. The city has been decaying for a long time and its problems accelerated during the eight years Rahm Emmanuel was mayor. But, Chicago’s problems are far worse in the short time Lightfoot has served as mayor – weekend shootings and killings are up significantly over last year and there have been several riots with major looting in the last three months.

If Chicago is to be saved, Lightfoot must take greater responsibility and take a firm stand against lawlessness. She must convince the citizens of Chicago to take responsibility for their lives and their city and stop blaming the city’s plight on systemic racism and other states’ gun laws.

You’re damn straight Chicago needs more GUN CONTROL!

40 shot over the weekend…and only FOUR dead?

What are they using, muzzle-loading muskets???

    Sight alignment, sight picture…and B-R-A-S-S.

Maybe the NRA should teach a class?!?!?

“Chicago impromptu sales continuing this evening.”

    It ain’t over.
I assume this is allowed to continue because the Mayor prioritizes “lives” over “mere property”.

They should, but right now their `sights` are on the DA of the southern district of New York where they are fighting dissolution.

One silver lining, for the Boz family anyway, suburban Chicago (I live in DuPage County) real estate is extremely hot right now. Flight to the ‘burbs. Homes a few years ago would sit for months with repeated price reductions. Same area and homes are selling in a few days for full list, often with multiple offers.

Great timing too as we are putting our house on the market next spring and finally heading south for good.

Chicago was one of the few cities where you could feel safe and raise a family (as long as you sent your kids to Catholic or other private schools). A well-kept secret is that Chicago was probably the most segregated city in the country as not many blacks could afford the upscale areas. Now violence is spreading to the North Side and Lakefront.

    DON’T BE A STRANGER!!!

Rush says to be of good cheer, re: Covid.

Good News: Dr. Scott Atlas Added to Coronavirus Task Force – The Rush Limbaugh Show
    https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2020/08/10/good-news-dr-scott-atlas-added-to-coronavirus-task-force/

Scott Atlas is a brilliant guy and he thinks by early October that we could well be burned out of COVID. In his opinion, we could see it turn inert. And his reason for this, some underappreciated T-cell, along with prior immunities. I’m not versed enough to understand it, but I’m just repeating to you what he says. We could see by early October COVID-19 turn inert or dormant largely due to some underappreciated T-cell, prior immunities from exposure to coronavirus, meaning colds and so forth, that’s one of the things we’re learning. Some people who have come down with a cold over the course of the summer miraculously end up less likely to get COVID-19, according to and Scott Atlas.

A couple snips from today’s issue.

Where do you get $450,000 in six days, after you claim to be broke? In reality, for Hunter Biden, one of two places—either Daddy or the Chinese government.
“For a guy claiming to be broke and unemployed in January in order to avoid paying child support, Hunter Biden was able to ‘resolve’ a $450,000 tax lien in mid-July, just six days after it was issued.
Although Biden claimed that he was broke, he was living in a $12,000-per-month Hollywood Hills rental home and spotted driving a $129,000 Porsche Panamera in Beverly Hills.

The freeways of the State are controlled by the California Highway Patrol. They are controlled by the Governor. For forty five minutes Gavin Newsom allowed the 1010 Freeway in Morgan Hill closed by rioters—and terrorists. No emergency vehicles could use the freeway, emergencies could not be handled, the flow of traffic and commerce was stopped—this was terrorism and Guv Newsom allowed it.
“Some of the protesters continued toward U.S. 101 after the demonstration downtown. Police reported that as of about 8:30pm Aug. 8, protesters had clogged both the northbound and southbound lanes of the freeway at Tennant Avenue. Authorities stopped vehicle traffic for less than an hour at Cochrane Road and San Martin Avenue.
By 9:15pm the protesters had moved off the freeway and the lanes were open again to vehicles. No injuries or damage were reported during the protest.
Like in Seattle and Portland, there were NO arrests.
