deBlasio You Idiot!

Mayor de Blasio warned Friday that city layoffs will commence Oct. 1 unless a $1 billion budget gap is closed — and then ripped President Trump over his administration’s failure to offer any aid.

“The president’s been missing in action on the stimulus,” de Blasio said in announcing a date for the potential loss of 22,000 city jobs. “I have spoken to him about it multiple times. I have appealed to him publicly … Donald Trump has not said a word in favor of a stimulus that would truly help cities and states. They are doing nothing.”

The mayor opened his City Hall briefing with the latest bad economic news inflicted by the ongoing pandemic, issuing a call for $5 billion in state money to bail the city out in the absence of federal funds. “I hate to have to say this,” the mayor declared. “The reality we’re facing right now is a massive economic crisis … We’ve lost $9 billion in revenue.

Trump missing action? Mayor, there is a mirror somewhere in the mansion have a long look cuz that is you who is responsible. Lets count the ways –

    • You did not start trimming immediately. It would make sense to suspend non-essential items, like say the travel bureau as nobody was coming once the lock down was issued, right? But you didn’t.
    • Then like a dunce you let the Governor railroad you into releasing post ICU patients into nursing homes. That happened to be the primary target age group for the virus. Do you feel the blood on your hands? Apparently not.
    • Then in what is the stupidest thing I ever heard, you released all the prisoners in the city jails to roam the streets creating more mayhem and still ongoing. The funny bit is if masks were so effective why not issue them to prisoners and keep them in jail?
  • And after all that the mayor does not understand the difference between ‘health and welfare’, and national defense. The former the responsibility of the States, the latter the Feds. The $2.5Bn provided to NYC after 9/11 was a national defense matter. Get a clue.
  • Trump sent a hospital ship to assist and it was hardly used. Nor was the temporary post opp center in Javitz Center used. But they went to the nursing homes didn’t they? Hundreds of needless deaths.

No Mayor, much of this debacle is of your making and that of the Governor. Trump has not provided any relief to any other State or local entity so why should you be special? Fact as hard as it may seem, Trump is following the construct of the government as assembled.

But of course there are rumors out of your shop for tax increase while at the same time you offer a free drink if the rich stay in the city. That is one expensive drink in the offering. Better think fast Mayor between the mass exodus because of costs, riots, and no jobs and a pending tax increase the bill is going to be Yuge. Fact you might say that the Big Apple is about to be creamed.

Good Luck.

PS. Cuomo is now in the act as well — https://www.zerohedge.com/political/andrew-cuomo-begs-rich-hedge-funders-fleeing-nyc-please-come-back . Were I a Jamie Diamond I would ask for 3yrs of real estate abatement’s and my steak medium rare.

de Blasio and Cuomo have a whole new set of financial problems to deal with . Many of the businesses (particularly small businesses) forced to close will never reopen – lost business and personal income taxes. Others will permanently have a portion of employees work at home. I am not sure how that affects income taxes as they live outside the city, in New Jersey or Connecticut (or even with their parents in Ohio), but it’s lost revenue to public transportation, restaurants, salons, department stores, etc. Businesses will be downsizing – a glut of office space.

Still other businesses are wising up and fleeing the Big Apple. It’s far cheaper and less troublesome operating from Charlotte, Jacksonville or Cincinnati – lower rent, taxes, less crime, fewer regulations, etc.

A lot of people have discovered the problems associated with living in NYC far outweigh the attractions. This is depressing housing values. Jennifer Lawrence lost $3 million on her property when she sold it.

Since de Blasio and Cuomo are both term limited, perhaps they can switch rolls to complete the destruction of NYC and the state.

    2,

Sad to say, only when the rich and powerful are inconvenienced, do things change or get done. That is a bad trait in our society right now. I would have to say our Victorian ancestors, both sides of the Pond, cared more for the poor due to their Christian ethos than we do today. Back then they set up shelters, services, thru their churches and other private aid organizations. They tithed a % of their earnings to that cause because it was the thing to do then.

Not suggesting it was easy street for the poor back then, it wasn’t. But I bet our ancestors were not spending $175/day and were getting better results.

So true. Right here in our area our favorite Sushi place was run by a husband an wife. Before the lockdowns you could go there any day of the week and you would see the same regulars there. You could pop in there and you beverage was on the table before you even ordered, they knew what you liked.

All gone now. We were by there a couple of weeks back and the only thing left is the booths and counter. Everything else gone. Real shame. And they are talking second wave lockdowns again in many States. This is crazy. There is more testing so cases are up, but deaths are way down. That really says were are winning not losing but that is not the way it is being pitched for political reasons. Bastards.

The objective back then was to get people out of poverty by curing problems alcoholism, drug abuse, etc.

Today in San Francisco the government is housing the homeless in the Mark Hopkins and other upscale hotels and providing them with booze and drugs. There is no effort to change their lives.

They haven’t stopped spending either. Few govt employees have been furloughed.

Small towns like the one in Colorado should indeed use drdog’s suggested technique: “flash mobs” of regular citizens!

In most of Kalifornia, however, the Leftist oligarchs of Sacramento would quickly declare such resistance to be “Racist!”

On a tangential note, a very good friend of ours in the Foothils asked me for the contact info for the guy who teaches CCW classes. So since I happened to be on FaceBook I tried to instant message the link to her. FaceBook refused to allow the message, saying it “Violated Community Standards”.

WTF? A private message which simply had a link to a Federal and State authorized firearms safety instructor somehow “violated community standards”? Welcome to America 2.0, brought to you by FascistBook and their tech buddies.

Yeah, JR, the “community standards” for social media platforms FB, Twitter, Google and so on are based on Critical Race Theory’s definition of “hate speech”.

    Hate speech is defined as:
Oppressors must shut up and listen
    Oppressed have free speech.
Speaking the truth is no defense: your truth might interfere with the Oppressed’s sacred narrative.
Even directly quoting an Oppressed person accurately can be hate speech when you say it because you might stir up hate, while it is OK for the Oppressed to say it. You can’t make this stuff up …

Oh that would be sweet. It would set up a situation where Twitter flat out has to be say they are indeed blocking Trump with no way around weasling. Trump could also just provide a short link back to another site on Twitter. Twitter would be hard pressed to say that is against ToS since 2/3rds of the tweets have some sort of link reference buried in them.

Where in the fuk does Trump have the authority to legislate via exec orders.? Forcing insurance companies to cover prior conditions etc etc , ( knighthawk 49) I thought this kind of socialist crap belonged with the legislature via the interstate commerce clause. Why even elect a congress, as fuked up as they are, if he can play dictator???I don’t care that he is basically on our side, but we can’t turn a blind eye to this kind rule by fiat.

If he gets away with this shit, just think what will happen when another dim gets in the oval orifice.

Even obumer thought DACA was unconstitutional, but the oligarchs on the court prevented Trump from rescinding it, and now he is doing the same damn thing in spades. I guess Trump thinks that an unconstitutional EO, once upheld, gives him the green light to run amok. WBF WBF

  53. 2020 August 7 6:24 pm
    [55]

54 – Pre-existing conditions was in legislation both in 2010 and again in 2017 was it not? On what I actually put in #49 generally speaking he doesn’t have such authority but since congress as abdicated authority more and move over the years (only trying to claim it back during R years) to cabinet members if not executive itself, let alone their own responsibility to act time and time again particularly in times of need, and here we are. In fact it seems to me most of the time Congress loves this arrangement, as they don’t have to take the hit for anything with recorded votes and if it’s something they really don’t like they’ll run to their prearranged judges.

Oh it’ll happen when they get the chair next regardless of if he does it or not, but your not wrong each one of those 3 is bullshit from an executive order perspective (though technically he could have ssadmin just not pursue non-payments for 6mo but he can’t forgive the obligation itself without congress unless there is exec authority carve out to do so buried somewhere…and there may be on that that I’m just not aware of, don’t forget all sort of national security exception shit has been littered into legislation over the the last 19 years). The other 2… complete bullshit as far as I know. Yes, WBF no matter what. In case you didn’t notice congress stopped being congress long ago. Became crystal clear somewhere around fy 2009, when they stopped even bothering with clean (and I mean that very relatively speaking) yearly budgets.

Not in the list but also mentioned in the presser was the re-import RX rule thing with regard to RX’s, but that’s about the only legal thing I heard in clearer terms of exec authority beyond the TVA pricks that I heard mentioned.
