Will the DNC Convention Help Trump Win?

2020 August 18
by bc3b

The opening night of the DNC Convention has been generally panned, even by the left-wing writers. Will it serve to show just how far out of step the Democratic Party is with working class Americans?

Viewers have slammed the ‘boring’ and ‘unwatchable’ first night of the Democratic National Convention, as America braces for three more nights of what many described as little more than a two-hour ‘infomercial’.

‘The DNC right now is like a 3am infomercial but has less sex appeal,’ one person tweeted Monday night.

‘Watching DNC convention, five minutes in… LAME… BORING… EVA LONGORIA… who cares,’ another tweeted.

The convention opened Monday night with a stellar cast of Democrat supporters including former First Lady Michelle Obama, former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and the family of George Floyd – the black man whose ‘murder’ by a white cop in Minneapolis sparked nationwide protests calling for an end to systemic racism across America.

However, despite the impassioned speeches, viewers were left struggling to connect with the convention after it shifted to a virtual format for the first time in its history in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The party decided to scrap an in-person event in exchange for two hours of programming each night from Monday through to Thursday this week which will culminate in Joe Biden accepting the Democratic presidential nomination in his adopted hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

The Republicans are opting for a similar model when they too take the Republican National Convention virtual in a four-day event next week.

But concerns are now building that voters will tune out of the key events in the campaign calendars as a lack of live crowds, pre-recorded conversations and speeches, and ‘stilted’ programming failed to excite the audience on opening night.

‘This DNC is so boring like I want 1996 again where everyone was doing the Macarena,’ one person tweeted, referencing the footage that recently resurfaced of then-First Lady Hillary Clinton clapping and dancing along to the 90s dance craze at the convention that year.

‘The DNC is so boring that Joe Biden already forgot who the nominee is,’ added another.

Another suggested making up a drinking game to get through the two-hour event: ‘Biden DNC Drinking Game Rule: Drink every time there’s Amtrak.’

The Milwaukee convention had been expected to pull in crowds of around 50,000 delegates, journalists, party officials and VIPs but the party was forced to scale this back first to 5,000 attendees then to 1,000 and going almost-entirely virtual.

The absence of a live crowd wasn’t lost on viewers, with one person commenting on social media: ‘Oh is the crowdless DNC program coming off a bit stilted?’

Viewers were left baffled by the format which, instead of a high-energy live event on stage, many likened to an infomercial.

‘I had to turn off the DNC because it was unwatchable but it was real weird going from commercials for super specific prescription drugs to prerecorded DNC Skype calls were everyone is speaking in the same tone as a Drug ad warning you about the side effects of Otezla,’ one person tweeted.

‘OK this definitely feels like a telethon,’ tweeted another.

Another agreed: ‘I don’t have enough cannabis to get through this insipid DNC infomercial.’

One or the lowlights of the night was the Marvelettes’ favorite candidate “Please Mr. Postman” (aka John Kasich) pleading with Republicans to vote for Joe Biden by assuring them Biden wasn’t going to lurch left. I hate to break this to you John, But Biden and the Democrats have already adopted many of the positions of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and even AOC.

Students do not need to be present for meal pick up.
Student eligibility (Free, reduced or paid) will be used to charge for meals.
All FUHSD students can pick up meals from any of these sites.
Get a free 20 pound meat or dairy box per family on 8/19 and 8/26 when you pick one week worth of meals (until supplies last)

The other night at a party a good friend of mine who is UTTERLY non-political, took me aside and asked if I had thought about defending our community. I really was taken aback, because he NEVER wanted to talk about anything like this before…and I have known him for years.

Once I realized he was serious and not just ordinarily pissed off by the destruction of our country, I told him “Yes”. He is now going to organize a meeting of “like minded folks” in our community to discuss mutual support. I told him I already have a list of topics! 🙂

I think conversations like this are taking place across this country.

JimNorCal #30 – Re: Goodyear. Goodyear is the only major American tire company (other than Cooper, which manufacturers replacement tires). Other former American brands are now foreign owned. BF Goodrich and Uniroyal in the US are owned by Michelin (French), Firestone is owned by Bridgestone (Japanese) and General by Continental (German).

All new police vehicles currently come equipped with Goodyear tires. Firestone and BF Goodrich offer replacement tires designed and approved for police pursuit vehicles. With all the miles police put on vehicles, a patrol car likely gets 2-4 sets of replacement tires.

There are a limited number of vehicles US police departments use. There are still some Ford Crown Vics and Chevy Impalas in use. Most current police vehicles are Ford Interceptors and Explorers, Dodge Chargers and Chevy Tahoes so police vehicle tires are produced in a limited range of sizes.

Once again, we find a foreign-owned brand may be preferable to an American, but since these are all multi-national corporations, it really doesn’t matter if a Goodyear tire is produced in Ohio or a BF Goodrich tire is produced in South Carolina. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

“Goodyear is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace where all of our associates can do their best in a spirit of teamwork. As part of this commitment, we do allow our associates to express their support on racial injustice and other equity issues but ask that they refrain from workplace expressions, verbal or otherwise, in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party as well as other similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of equity issues.”

Melissa Monaco, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

Tell me Black Lives Matter isn’t political. By allowing Black Lives Matter and specifically banning Blue Lives Matter Goodyear is taking an anti-police stand and saying, in effect, dead blacks is bad; dead cops isn’t.

You can expect to hear from the police organizations.

I’ve talked to many people in recent months: Some who ‘refuse to consider’ themselves republican since Trump was elected into office, and others who intend to vote republican on the presidential ticket this year for the first time in their lives.

It’s been mainly upper class wealthy whites leaving the party. Who’s replacing them? Blacks. Hispanics. Gays. Average Americans who work hard for their families and just want to be left alone to LIVE.

Not trying to play identity politics in this post, I’ve just found it fascinating in my own communications with so many folks.

And frankly, I’m ecstatic about this trade-off. It’s long overdue that the “party of white, wealthy men” diversify to better represent the nation as a whole.

Just please stop exploiting your former “Republican” affiliation. The party has evolved, thankfully. Stop using your defection as some kind of “heroic” act (hysterical). You don’t fit in here anymore- YOU, in fact, have been who we’ve rejected….driven out.

Go pander to the democrats on your own personal or professional merits, if you even possess any. If all you’ve got as your appeal is, “I used to be a republican,” it’s no wonder we’ve rejected you. We prefer talent, ideas, and passion from those we associate with.
The GOP is transforming from an elitist to a populist party. It’s unsurprising that some elitists are uncomfortable with that, and more comfortable with the party of Hollywood, academia, and Wall Street.

Goodyear is pulling a Gillette and their weak ass public statement made things worse for them. They denied the slide came from corporate but reiterated in the same statement the substance of the slide. I suspect heads will roll over the fiasco, but could be wrong. If not, screw them. I would rather buy a tire from politically neutral Japanese company than a leftist American company.

This can’t happen fast enough. I would trade a single conservative person of any race or creed over a hundred John Kasichs.

Of course they are. Guys like George Will and that ilk prefer diving into the shrimp bowl at a WaPo party than having to split the bill of pulled pork and kielbasa down at Bubba’s Smokehouse and Beer Emporiun, even if they have a drive up window.

Why is it that American corporate types can’t take responsibility? Why can’t Rich Kramer just call a news conference, say “I as head of this organization take full responsibility and I F’d up. I will see to a correction and it will be public. In addition I am calling for a special vote. If the shareholders wish to have me replaced I will step down.” The usual ‘We take your ____________ very seriously….” has become the vernacular of a corporate middle finger.

By the way, my wife asked me today what it takes to vote. I told her. I asked who she was going to vote for and she looked at me “There is only one choice, Trump.” She is a naturalized citizen and been here 18 years and this is the first time she has ever expressed an interest in voting in an American election.

It seems everyone in the Russian community is going Trump according to SO.

That shit’s been bs since the late 80’s early 90’s when the role reversal started in earnest, I don’t know why people least of a R’s repeat it like it’s still a thing (any more than rich elitists running both parties).

95 – They need to get fucked regardless of what they do at this point, anyone who even flurts with wokeism needs to be shunned to the extent possible.

After day three of the DNC “virtual” convention fiasco, I really hope the RNC takes a much different path. Do one day of party business, outside the media view who will just jeer anyway. Then on day two, a 2 to 3 hour public broadcast of the most talented public speakers the GOP can gather to skewer the Donks and make them own the lockdowns and BLM violence, culiminated by a 30 minute Trump speech. The public would appreciate the brevity and the directness.

Things are going from bad to worse for Goodyear. A local newstation was given audio from the diversity training meeting with workers jeering the announcement regarding what was allowed and disallowed.

If politics was causing problems these idiots should have just banished all political stuff from the workplace and be done with it. Choosing sides was just idiotic.

Sure it was a publicity stunt — https://ussanews.com/News1/2020/08/19/oregon-dem-lawmaker-chains-himself-to-a-mailbox-in-order-to-defend-it-from-trump-administration/ — But it goes to show how deranged the Woke crowd is.

Sad bit, he’s a CongressCritter so we are paying for his privilege.

Being a boatie I found this interesting — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL-gC0wOg_Q — But what is really interesting is the engineering shown in this video. Those Victorians had grit. The aqueduct would have been the equivalent to a moon shot effort. Plus the dynamic nature of the early industrial revolution, betting that the economics of a 10yr effort would pay off in moving the raw materials to the mills.

The goodyear rank and file may be on the horns of a delima , they may support trump, but a trump boycott could cost them their jobs. What to do, what to do.
