Yet Another Media Exec Has Had Enough

Today’s mainstream media is something that goes beyond Joseph Goebbels and the 1960s Pravda editors’ wildest dream. It is controlled by dishonest people like Brian Stelter and Chuck Todd in front of the camera and Jeff Jucker in management.

The sole purpose is propaganda. Some, like MSNBC, really don’t make a pretense of objectivity. Others, like CNN, actually pretend to be legitimate news sources even though they are openly biased/dishonest. They amplify news that fits their agenda and hide news that doesn’t. There are thousands of examples – bad economic news gets lead story treatment, good economic news is buried, if it gets reported at all. Then there’s fake news, like the boys from Covington Catholic. They are quick to report negative rumors about President Trump and Republicans and usually don’t offer retractions when the rumors turn out to be false.

Perhaps there is no greater example of media dishonesty than Black Lives Matter. The media is totally behind the Black Lives Matter movement. Based on watching CNN, one is led to believe police brutality is far more common than it really is. The media national refuses to report that more unarmed whites than blacks are killed by the police every year and that the number of blacks killed by the police last year was 14 of approximately 7,000 total black murders. Causes of inequality (77% illegitimacy rate, drop-out rates and black-on-black crime) are off limits. Reporting police officers murdered and whites murdered by blacks (no matter how grizzly) is unthinkable.

There is a (hopefully) growing number of people (mostly liberals) who have high personal ethical standards and can’t stand living in this toxic environment any more. They are quitting lucrative jobs and speaking out, even though they likely realize speaking out ends their careers in the liberal media.

The latest is Ariana Pekary, formerly a producer at MSNBC.

What’s it like behind the scenes at MSNBC? Ratings and politics were at the core of every editorial decision, according to one former producer, forcing “skilled journalists to make bad decisions on a daily basis.”

In a letter about her July 24 departure from MSNBC, Ariana Pekary explains why she left.

“It’s possible that I’m more sensitive to the editorial process due to my background in public radio, where no decision I ever witnessed was predicated on how a topic or guest would ‘rate.’ The longer I was at MSNBC, the more I saw such choices — it’s practically baked in to the editorial process – and those decisions affect news content every day,” she writes on her personal website. “Likewise, it’s taboo to discuss how the ratings scheme distorts content, or it’s simply taken for granted, because everyone in the commercial broadcast news industry is doing the exact same thing.”

Pekary describes this as a “cancer” that “stokes national division” amid the civil unrest in the country, “risks human lives” during the pandemic, and threatens “our democracy” with the election coming up.

“The model blocks diversity of thought and content because the networks have incentive to amplify fringe voices and events, at the expense of others… all because it pumps up the ratings,” she writes.

Regarding coronavirus coverage, amplifying President Trump’s failures was at the center of MSNBC’s strategy “rather than the science itself.”

At times producers would choose a story without regard to ratings but these were exceptions, she explains.

“I’ve even heard producers deny their role as journalists,” she writes. “A very capable senior producer once said: ‘Our viewers don’t really consider us the news. They come to us for comfort.’”

She closes by embracing the uncertainty of 2020, hoping to connect with her followers. “More than ever, I’m craving a full and civil discourse,” she says.

Ques 1: why has this not been released by authorities?
Ques 2: why hasn’t someone in the MSM chased this down. A good reporter chases rumors till proved or not.

While I don’t normally agree with Francis the Marxist, I agree with one thing he told priests (limit homilies to 10 minutes). Tim should follow his advice – 20 to 30 minutes is just too painful.

Another quote you will not see on the news tonight.

    BTW regarding op…

I call likely bs. The tell is that she claims her co-workers were all very smart and well meaning people. Give me a break. Claims everything was about more ratings… Now I understand the larger industry point being made but for her in the context of msnbc … bullshit. If they really were about ratings they would have switches gears years ago to attract a wider more diverse audience, they have not. While it’s possible this is some situation where she finally broke and couldn’t take doing all the crap msnbc wanted her to do anymore, she was doing it willingly over the 7 years. I think this more a “look at me” statement and while leaving for primarily other reasons and this a nice cover to advertise herself to some other network or platform and to gain distance from msnbc’s stench on the resume.

But i’m increasingly a cynical sum-bitch so maybe I’m misreading her and she was just trying to be ‘nice’ on her way out with some of what she said.

Los Angeles trying to get on that St.Louis stupidity.

“The husband of Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey was hit with misdemeanors after he pointed a gun at Black Lives Matter militants who showed up to his home.

According to reports, Black Lives Matter militants knocked on Jackie Lacey’s door and her husband, David Lacey answered and told them to leave.

“Right now! Get off my porch! I will shoot you!” David Lacey said on March 2nd to Black Lives Matter militants in front of his Granada Hills home.”

The shooting occurred in West Rogers Park, Chicago’s most northern neighborhood, which borders Evanston and Skokie – not on the south or west sides. Not normally a high crime neighborhood. Is Chicago gang violence spreading?

Thank you. It’s undeniable that Fox News has changed. Where I would disagree with O’Reilly is when the change started. I would say it started during the 2008 election campaign, which is when I cut back watching. I stopped completely about five years ago. If Tucker Carlson has an interesting segment, I’ll catch it on a conservative blog.

Eph – Regarding “Mr. Catholic”: Hannity publicly announced he had left the Catholic Church about six months ago, about the time his divorce became public knowledge. I have no idea what he is now.

For all I know, Hannity might be “Mr. Jewish” now. Take a look the next time you are at the synagogue.
O’Reilly also was Catholic. I am not sure if he still is after his divorce. I bet both ex-wives got nice settlements as both were married 15+ years.
