Surprise: Crime Is Soaring in Minneapolis

The Minneapolis City Council is shocked, yes shocked, that crime is soaring since it started taking action to de-fund the police, triggering officers to retire or move on to police departments, where law enforcement jobs are safer. With a reduced police force,  a reduced budget and an anti-police mayor and city council, officers have likely taken the position: why should I risk my life or possibly end up in prison myself? Don’t take unnecessary chances prior to retirement or until you’re offered an LEO job in the suburbs or a rural community where you’ll be supported and respected.

Just two months after voting to dismantle the police and slashing its budget, Minneapolis City Council members pressed the department’s chief over a surge in crime, prompting a GOP candidate to slam the lawmakers as hypocrites.

‘Residents are asking, “Where are the police?”‘ Council Member Jamal Osman said on Tuesday, adding that calls to the Minneapolis Police Department from constituents have gone unanswered.

‘That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen.’

Osman and other council members questioned police Chief Medaria Arradondo on Tuesday about the increase in crime, including daylight car jackings, robberies, assaults, shootings and street racing.

But others noted that the council just recently slashed the police budget by $1.1million and also voted to amend the city charter that would allow for the dismantling of the entire police department.

‘The hypocrisy and failure that we’re seeing from this City Council is astounding and deeply troubling,’ Lacy Johnson, a GOP candidate who is running against Democratic incumbent House Rep. Ilhan Omar, told Fox News on Thursday.

Johnson said the council had been calling for the ‘dismantling or demilitarizing or the disarming of police’ all summer.

‘Now they’re turning around and blaming these brave officers for a situation that they have created,’ Johnson said.

President of the Council Lisa Bender accused the police of knowingly not enforcing the law or making arrests.

‘This is not new,’ Bender said. ‘But it is very concerning in the current context.’

Arradondo said it was ‘troubling to hear’ Bender’s comments, and promised to raise the issue with departmental supervisors.

‘We need to make sure that our communities know that we are going to be there, that we’re going to be responsive,’ he said.

Bender is a total leftist loon and the leader of the movement to dismantle the city’s police department. She totally overlooks other causes, like the failure to charge almost no one in the rioting and looting following George Floyd’s death, which has emboldened the criminal element in Minneapolis.

Crime data from the Minneapolis Police Department shows homicide, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, auto theft, theft from motor vehicles and arson were all up in the city so far in 2020, when compared with 2019 up until September 15.

Violent crime, including domestic aggravated assault, was up almost 15 per cent in the first nine months of the year, while property crime was up almost eight per cent in the same time period.

Of all the crimes that have increased, homicide saw the largest spike of 87 per cent, rising from 30 in 2019 to 56 in 2020, while incidents of arson have increased by 82 per cent over the total at this point in 2019.

Robbery rose from 931 to 1,275 (37 percent) while incidents of aggravated assault increased from 1,750 in 2019 to 2,100 this year (20 percent). Meanwhile, rape fell by 22 percent, and domestic aggravated assault fell by 8.4 percent.

An update on the insanity of Kalifornia…

The article below talks about the FireSafe Council TRIED to do in Berry Creek…but got stopped by the “Environmental” geniuses, who wanted an 18 month delay to “study the environmental impact”of cutting down trees!

I work with the FireSafe Council, and in OUR area we had a grant of almost exactly the same size, but WE fought to get the work done…and they did it. We may still burn, but the excellent people at the FireSafe Council have given us a chance. Berry Creek is GONE…the 120 acres of “fire mitigation” (roughly the amount they did around our little town) might have saved them.

The “Environmentalists” sipping their chai-frapacino lattes and virtue-signaling their “concern” for the fu@king spotted owls can get in line to KISS MY ASS. The spotted owls are now burned to a fu@king crisp…as is the habitat that COULD have been protected.

We DID cut down trees and clear brush in our area, which is in the path of the fire right now, but even then had people whining about it.

It is NOT “Global Warming”, it is CRIMINAL MISMANAGEMENT of the forests, by those who have no idea what a healthy forest looks like!

P.s. out of respect for our beloved Governor Newsome I’ve decided to give him cuts in line, so he can KISS MY ASS first!

    JR #9 –

Good luck. Much like other liberal paradises (Minneapolis, Seattle and Portland), Kalifornia has created its worst problems. There’s little difference about Newson crying about the fires and the Minneapolis city council whining about crime. Both (and their predecessors) are the reason for the problems.

40 years ago Minneapolis was one of the cleanest, safest large cities in the US:

Mary Tyler Moore doesn’t live there any more and the Dayton’s Department Store which served as the backdrop for the iconic scene where she tosses her tam in the air is closed.

Great to get a feisty report from JR!

In the meantime, East German style informing comes to MA.
“Yesterday the Town of Nantucket, was just declared by Gov Baker to be a “Red Zone” because we have had 100 positive tests and one death since the beginning of the year and our winter population is maybe 15,000 and summer 40,000.

Starting today, the Town has asked citizens to snap pictures of citizens they observe who are not masked and to email them to the Town so the miscreant can be identified and “dealt with” (fined I suppose, or at least re-educated).

That right there is what we have devolved into…brought to you by the section of the country famous for the Salem Witch Trials.”

JR, what is the status of the fire?
Do you have any info on when you’ll be allowed to return?

It seems promising that the town has survived thus far, prayers to you and yours.
Are your Santa Cruz relatives still with you or were they allowed to go home?

    What. A. Year.

Jim, they are not letting anyone even visit their homes yet..And we’ve tried twice to do so.

Gonna try again tomorrow. The fire remains 2 miles away…more or less “stalled” in steep canyons with LOTS of fuel. Up until about 30 years ago they used to allow logging in there, and it’s the old logging roads the firefighters are using to get as close as they can.

We are swinging from Hope to Despair…and back again on an hourly basis it seems.

Scandinavians aren’t the brightest people in the world. 40 years ago neither Minnesota nor Sweden had a crime problem. Both decided to import it:
