What’s with the Groundhog Act?

With nine days left before the 2020 election, former Vice President Joe Biden is off the campaign trail without any in-person events scheduled.

On Sunday, Biden’s campaign called a “lid” on in-person campaigning for the day. A “lid” usually also means the campaign will not conduct press conferences or dispense press releases the remainder of the day. Biden’s campaign clarified that this was not a “full lid” since the former vice president would speak to supporters late-Sunday evening at a virtual “I will vote” concert.

Given that the general election is slightly more than a week away, the news of Biden’s “lid” elicited rebuke on social media from some reporters and supporters of President Donald Trump.

Really? Going to crawl back into his burrow in the most important event of his life possibly and just going to sleep on it? That is the most I will dump on Biden in this piece. The man has issues, mental or physical I do not know which. However –

  • Pox on you Jill Biden for not calling a halt to this.
  • Damn you DNC for willing being a party to the destruction of someone for the pure, evil, grasp for power.
  • And F anyone who think this is the way to treat people. Accept the destruction of a nation just so you can be a lazy a$$.

Biden may indeed be a crook, all the evidence points that way. So be it. Even if the man was indicted and convicted the court would most likely issue house arrest or commitment.

So to those that may still be undecided an have yet to vote:

Do Biden a favor, Vote for Trump.

I might consider Biden a fool, a grifter, a ne’er-do-well and a crook but I would not classify him ‘the enemy’. And not to be fooled myself, yes I believe most of the Progs view conservatives as ‘the enemy’.

So I consider, what are the ramifications if Biden cannot accept the Oath of Office? Kamaltoe takes over? That gives me shivers.

EPH 7 Bravo sierra, a trump win should be a plus for the market. 401 k’s would prosper, joe six pack would prosper. Any asshole who invests in the market due to a massive subsidy, is a closet socialist~~fuk em. Lower taxes, less regs can only benefit the market. Massive stimulation will only result in massive inflation on down the line, bad for the market. Massive stimulus creates a market bubble that will blow up at some point in the future. The people who jump in on that basis are keynsian assholes.

Re: Eph #7 and IP #20…my career was in the investment world from 1986 thru 2012. The market generally favors big, well capitalized businesses. As such, Wall Street feels they can fare well from either D or R, they just tool themselves differently for each. History has shown that to be generally true. Small mom & pops would be crushed by a Biden admin, which would actually benefit mega-cap stocks with big lobbying budgets.

All that said, what the market really HATES is uncertainty. So if the market has already baked in a Biden win, then Trump looking suddenly positive will create uncertainty in the short-term. Short-term uncertainty creates volatility. Look at the stock market futures on the night Trump won…way down, not because Wall St. didn’t like Trump, but because they had baked a HRC win into their business model and needed to recalibrate.

“I think Wall Street is “re-calculating” as we speak.”

Another words the wise bizman would be sipping 20yo scotch right now not worrying about business models. Why? Because he/she anticipated a Trump win to begin with. And why is that? Because history says so.

Every president who in the postwar era who earned their position thru the electoral process served two terms. The exceptions were Carter and Bush Sr. Then add any POTUS who increased their counts in the primaries would become a 2nd termer. Surprisingly neither Carter or Bush did so.

Trump has achieved both heading into his second term. I would add JBoz is right the market hates uncertainty which would be a factor in how the markets react. Alot of firms have Chinese exposure and were considering pulling out. If Biden were to win that changes the decision matrix to leave or stay.

“Do Biden a favor… vote Trump!”
    – That’s good material!

  27. 2020 October 26 3:06 pm

11 – Not wrong about that (never ending “stimulus” to where they direct, namely their pockets), but there is upside with Trump too (both in fundimental and he propensity to spend money we dont have too), but you’re right that positions are going to be shifting around a lot in the next 10 days adjusting to the projections, but ultimately I ‘m not expecting some mass move up or down once the churn is done.

10 – Ouch. But also I don’t see the problem here, Hunter is saying the woman’s mom is making shit up, the daughter isn’t even in agreement with what the mother is doing (I assume this is also the minor the therapist comments relate too). This is some family drama bs. Frankly till I understand more from whom ever the mother is in term of what was inappropriate\what the mother was reacting too, I’m with Hunter pov on this one. This isn’t evidence, it’s evidence there was an allegation, and we already knew that. The question is where is the proof or admitting from someone involved that something actually happened?

Concise. I do have a point of order for this —

“The DCNF reported last week, however, that the emails on the hard drive could “be absolutely verified, beyond a shadow of a doubt” if Giuliani released the hard drive containing the email metadata to the public. according to cyber security expert and founder of Errata Security, Robert Graham.”

Here is the condrundum. Notice the use of “… released the hard drive containing the email metadata to the public. ” Now read this —

    18 U.S. Code § 1466A
(a)In General.—Any person who, in a circumstance described in subsection (d), knowingly produces, distributes, receives, or possesses with intent to distribute, a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon, sculpture, or painting, that—
(A)depicts a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; and
    (B)is obscene; or
(A)depicts an image that is, or appears to be, of a minor engaging in graphic bestiality, sadistic or masochistic abuse, or sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether between persons of the same or opposite sex; and
    (B)lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value;
or attempts or conspires to do so, shall be subject to the penalties provided in section 2252A(b)(1), including the penalties provided for cases involving a prior conviction.

commits a crime. So turning over the hard drive to anyone for public exposure may in fact trigger such a charge. Based on the wording the only body that could extract the emails to be provided would the a law enforcement agency. Just the way I read it.

  55. 2020 October 26 6:38 pm

btw on that 24%, If we’re only talking Philly proper then yes, as he got 15% in 2016, but also keep in mind they has turn-out problem there for hilda, even though some precincts there (like Detroit) still reported > 100% turn out. If he can actually keep Phil proper to 77/20 vs 82/15 in 2016, and the outer burbs to competative like in 2016, he wins … baring fraud factor. I’m also assuming there is always these 2-3% voting 3rd. A new role, potentially, for Justice Thomas. I’m sure Roberts will try to bring Gorsuch and/or Kavanaugh into the liberal fold.

    Taranto in the WSJ:

The chief justice is an especially potent swing voter, because he also has the power to assign authorship of the majority opinion, including to himself. That can help shape a decision’s scope and direction—usually, in Chief Justice Roberts’s case, by making it more tentative.
If the chief justice is in dissent, however, the assignment power falls to the most senior associate justice in the majority. Clarence Thomas is now the most senior justice, so he will assign authorship any time he is in the majority and Chief Justice Roberts dissents.
