Lets Talk

Rationally, calmly, with a clear heart and pencil in hand.

It is not going to change

We won, but lost a national election because of cheating. What are you going to do about it? I’ll tell you what you are going to do about it – NOTHING. Its not that you don’t care. But change does not occur until you and fellow citizens have a lever to make it happen. But that time is not now. It maybe never, we will see. But accept that fact.

Proud Boys, God Bless them. They act how I feel in many ways. But that is not going to change things either. Well except to get some people killed. But that is not going to change the big picture.

Cities like Detroit, Chicago, New York, Portland, Los Angeles do you expect them to change? Realize that some of these environs have been run by Boss Tweeds for from 50 to 100 years. Same Democratic mayors reaching back to the 1800’s in some cases. Their brand of politics has and will outlast your entire lifespan. What are you going to do, nuke the place? To what end? Mayor Tweed will just tap HUD for federal dollars to do their brand of urban renewal. Those are not the only cities like this. There are many more both large and small. I can point to a few here in Texas with a total population of the county is under 60000 but I would not live there for the old boy network running the place.

Do you think you are going to take down the elites compliments of Donald Trump? Probably not, the rot is too deep and too wide for any one man to clear it out. To his credit Trump did more in that regard that any POTUS in my lifetime but he is only one man. One man can only do so much in a four year span. Its the way the system swings.

If things do change it will be for the worst I am afraid to say. Over my career I have been to Portland several times. The first being in the early 80’s. Clean, lots to do, a good place to live. Now look at it, squalor everywhere downtown, riots in the streets, cops bailing out in massive numbers. Given the path it is on, it will be a shell of itself within a decade or less.

But right now is the time to take out the pencil. Scratch a T bar on the pad. On the left side header ‘where you are now’. On the right side header, ‘where you want to be’. On the left side below the bar add the following:

  • Where is the closest major city to where you live. Ex: I am in Tarrant closest large city is Fort Worth.
  • Research what the politics are for that city. Mostly Democrat vs Republican leadership?
  • Research what the people in that city vote for. Which party? For or against levies and taxes? For or against ‘more govt.’?
  • Look at your current tax bill. Break it down by Federal, State, City, County, School Board.
  • What is your assessment of the quality of life in your area over the last 5 years?
  • What keeps you where you are? Job? Family? History? Fun?
  • Misc. What else ticks your fancy?
  • How much does the family earn?
  • How much of your net worth is portable. How much it tied up in your residence?

But you can change

So things will only get worse? Surely? Do you need to accept it? Yes, at least where you are. The situation can’t but YOUR situation can. The quickest way is change your locale. But I love it here you say. Really? Go back and look at what you wrote. Is what you scribbled what you want to face the rest of your life? If it is grab a beer and enjoy it. But I would hazard for most people where they are now is not where they want to be.

Time for that pencil again. On the right side add the following:

  • How do you prefer to live?
  • What is the closest urban city?
  • Research what the politics are for that city. Mostly Democrat vs Republican leadership?
  • Research what the people in that city vote for. Which party? For or against levies and taxes? For or against ‘more govt.’?
  • Look at the tax bill for a mythical residence in the area. Break it down by Federal, State, City, County, School Board.
  • Less taxes.
  • Job prospects for the move.
  • Are those existing residents of a like mind?

You may have to do this several times. The US is a huge place and there are many opportunities. Every opportunity has different facets to consider. Nor do you have to move half way across the country to get where you want to be. Heck I lived in Arlington Texas several years and moved to an unincorporated area just 12 miles away and it is like a different State.

So now it is time to make a decision, some economic some lifestyle. And keep this in the back of your mind – It is not how much you earn it is how much you keep that matters. In the most drastic cases it is quite possible to take a 1/3rd to 1/2 whack in your gross income and still net more bottom line than you are earning now where you live.

That chance to fix your life is at its maximum RIGHT NOW. CoVid has created an opportunity that may not come again in our lifetime. Businesses due to the CoVid scare are moving head long into remote work as a survival technique. These business are taking advantage of the opportunity principally by hiring individuals based on skills and not on location. Logic being they can acquire a better talent pool that way. Well flip that on its head, it means that the current talent pool, YOU, can also maximize your situation.

Many Chicago residents are moving to Kentucky. They calculate the total economic package and have found a better life. People are leaving California in droves. This is happening in all the major trash cities I listed previously. Here is a good test. A UHaul Texas to LA is $1500 one way. LA to Texas $4600. That is the level of demand out of the trash urban cores. And rural land prices? Up.

But you are a coward for moving! Really? Were people jumping Westward over or under the Berlin wall cowards considering they were highly likely to be shot if discovered? Were Cubans cowards to float on a pair of oil drums to get to Florida some of whom were never seen again? Wars have been won and lost based on whether the army moved or not. What you are doing is an offensive retreat from insanity. Moving may in fact be the most effective means of toppling the status quo.

So which to you think is the most effective means of facilitating change? The gun or the tax bill? In our current environment the tax bill. Or should I say the lack of it. If you move, select wisely, you relieve yourself of the largest impediment to your life. You also deny the monster of the largess you have been providing all these years. If I yell and scream in a school board meeting think they will change? Probably not because they know they are going to get their millage tax out of you come hell or high water. Tell the principal that you are taking the child out of the system and they will jump thru hoops to change your mind. (personal experience. My daughter was worth $2200 to them in fed grants.) The most recent example was Governor Cuomo pleading for people to come back to New York. Trust me, your life is worth more than a damn steak, medium rare.

But, but, but the liberals will come in droves. Eh, check that. First off where do you think Liberals breed? It is not transmitted genetically, its in the mind. You can bet your last dollar that Dallas, Houston and Austin school systems breed as many liberals as Portland or Seattle do. Its the school systems. Accept that you can’t change it. But that is not to deny that imports maybe an issue. But on balance it is probably a wash. We are better off having a Joe Rogan, who is unquestionably a liberal move to Texas than Tucker Carlson. Rogan is a sign post that the progressives have gone off the rails far beyond the classic liberal and his audience reach is 5x larger than Carlsons that plays to a crowd already convinced. The other thing to consider, is those that have been leaving places like California have been the productive members of society. The dregs are moving TO California for the bennies. The good weather is just a cherry on top.

Your choice

So the analysis says moving is the thing to do. But the one thing that has not been discussed is why? Moving is a PITA, even if your hire it out with a mover. Most people move for a simple reason – economics. Better job, better opportunity, etc. Nothing wrong with that. But it costs you the one thing most people do not consider like a fish swimming. Their freedom to do as they please. We get so wrapped up in the economics of our lives that we don’t consider what we pay in restrictions. The Elites like that, treating you and I like tax donkeys on a treadmill.

The watchword from the elites is ‘The Great Reset’. Futurists consider this time the Fourth Turning in America. So be it. The grand plan is to change everything. But such great plans require taxes. Taxes that can be denied if you are not within reach. The turmoil we are currently experiencing is an opportunity. Use it.

For myself I am running TO SOMETHING, which does not include the Elites grand schemes.

Upon the nipple of the republic we make our stand,
Suckling theron is for the common man,
Cradle to grave security is our sine qua non,
It’s promised to us and all our spawn,
The welfare state is our law of the land.

A plethora of sucklers, a paucity of nipples,
When the money runs out there will be ripples,
The golden goose we have plucked,
The taxpayers they have been fuked,
We will become a nation of moral cripples.

The answer is that people leave. They move out and head to suburbs, exurbs or even the country. People leave violence-prone cities like New York, Chicago and Baltimore and head for tax-free states like Texas, Florida and Tennessee. This is not just speculation; the evidence is in.

More than 300,000 New Yorkers have filed formal change of address notices with the U.S. Postal Service from March 1 to October 31.

Considering that each address change notice represents a household, and assuming an average of three persons per household, this means the total number of people moving out is closer to one million. And, since the address change notices are only made available when 11 or more pieces of mail are affected, this means the number of actual moves is higher.

Upwards of one million California unemployed are unable to get timely unemployed checks, or get none at all. At the same time, it is estimated that one of three claims are based on fraud. We have spent billions on the EDD computer systems, none worked well and scandals were involved with the giving of contracts with some systems.

A multi-agency investigation found that 35,000 unemployment claims were filed in the name of California state prison inmates between March and August, including that of convicted murderer Scott Peterson, and that at least 20,000 had been paid out, said Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert.
Meanwhile, as many as 1 million Californians are not getting unemployment checks because their claims have not been processed by the EDD.

    https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/11/release-the-vaccine/
It turns out that the Moderna vaccine, which was just shown to be 95 percent effective, was actually developed by the company in just two days in January 2020.

That’s right, they developed the vaccine in two days in January, but then needed to spend the following ten months performing tests in order to meet the FDA’s standards for vaccine safety and efficacy.

During those ten months, 1.3 million people, including a quarter million Americans, have died from the coronavirus.

6, one of my NextDoor peeps raises some issues with the Nat’l Review story on the vaccine being invented in 2 days but not being released for 10 further months.

I don’t quite agree with 2 days here. mRNA process was actually developed by a Hungarian scientist in MIT for cancer treatment. Both Pfizer or more precisely their German partner Biontec and Moderna licensed that process.
While they came up with the idea of vaccine pretty fast the issue was the delivery mechanism. The body was destroying the cell with mRNA code before it could reach cells. The original process could not solve this issue.
It took some time to develop it

Secondly one has to be very careful with the immune system so it doesn’t turn on the body itself or cause some other harm.

So I am ok with FDA taking their time and making sure that all the protocols are followed.

I agree with JR and JimNorCal: great post

I’d like to address two cities: Detroit, which you mentioned, and Minneapolis, which you didn’t.

Detroit had fair elections far longer than places like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Newark, where political corruption and fraud has been a way of life for more than a century.

Detroit was a two-party city. In fact, until the 1967 riot, over 70% of the city was white and Republicans were as likely to be mayor and control the city council as Democrats.

With regard to Minneapolis, I have gone there dozens of times, beginning in the 1970s. In the early years, I felt the same way about Minneapolis as you did about Portland, which I have never visited. The city was clean, safe, lots of picturesque lakes and things to do. Minneapolis in the 1970s wasn’t all that much different than the portrait of the city painted on The Mary Tyler Moore show. The major negative was bitterly cold winters and snow. That all changed in the 1990s. Unlike Detroit, Minneapolis always had more than its share of leftist loons, but when almost everyone has a job, doesn’t break the law and takes personal responsibility, it doesn’t make much of a difference.

    GN,

    Thanks.

Does bring out something not directly related, but kinda. For us wizard oldies, we have a wealth of knowledge that we need to pass on. Consider being an adjunct teacher in your chosen field with a local community college. Community colleges are generally hurting for talent. You make a few bucks and have the chance to influence the thinking of kids at a vulnerable age.

Been posting on MeWe, and carrying posts & comments from here over there. Worth noting that the trolls have shown en masse, with the most common type being: “Trump was soooo bad, Biden’s gotta be better, so why not give him a chance?” ZERO sympathy for that bullshit.

An adjunct to that troll line of “reasoning” is that any and EVERY thread that starts with or wanders into talking about “resisting” or “what comes next” has the trolls has the tolls alternating between (essentially) “Resistance is futile” and “We gotta give the NEW America a chance!”

In my next comment I’ll relate a thread on MeWe that ties pretty closely to drdog’s post

    Greater Idaho

I got in a thread discussing “Greater Idaho” (Idaho + NorthEastern Calif + Eastern Oregon+ Eastern Washington).

One of the trolls said (essentially) “they’ll never let this happen…so stop talking about it”

To which I replied: “Yup, they NEVER will. Which means we just need to start acting as though they did! Start lines of communication, supply, support and transportation as though the State boundaries didn’t exist!”

I got a lot of supporting comments.

Drdog’s excellent post talks about how/when/whether to move…but if you can’t, or don’t want to, then start acting as though you did! Local support, local resistance, local organization. Government is by definition VERY inefficient and VERY ineffective. That is how to attack them
