The Price of Freedom

2021 January 19

[updated from a Price of Freedom from several years ago]

The first section of T.H. White’s book ‘The Once and Future King’ became the basis for the Disney movie ‘The Sword in the Stone’.  In T.H. White’s retelling of the Arthurian legend   Merlin changes the young Arthur (“Wart”) into various creatures to teach him life lessons.

During one of Wart’s episodes he is changed into an ant, and as he enters the ant colony he sees a sign that reads: “EVERYTHING NOT FORBIDDEN IS COMPULSORY”.  Even as a young child when I read that I felt a chill run through me…and now as an adult I feel that same chill.

When I read the book in the early 60’s there were layers upon layers of American history, culture, traditions and laws that insulated me and America from this “everything not forbidden is compulsory” philosophy ever becoming the standard for our life.  Sure, the USSR, Red China, North Korea, et al, were all suffering under such a decree…but America??  NEVER!

Well, “never” turned out to be pretty short-lived.  Who knew?  Those layers-upon-layers of protection have been stripped away, and now a puppet is about to be installed in the basement of the White House, and his puppet-masters will move quickly to dictate every aspect of our lives.

Biden’s puppet-masters will make sure we know that T.H. White’s phrase works in both directions:

“Everything not FORBIDDEN is COMPULSORY”

“Everything not COMPULSORY is FORBIDDEN”

For our own good…of course. And if you DARE to question ANY proclamation by the Biden Regime, you will be labeled a “Domestic Terrorist”.

Almost every media outlet has been hosting panels of “experts” PRAISING what Twitter, Facebook and the rest of BigTech are doing to censor voices and the news.  These “experts” routinely declare that we Americans have “too many choices” for where we get our news and other information.  They also routinely support government oversight of “news”…to fight against “disinformation”, of course.  For our own good.

If we will all just COMPLY with the new regime, TRUST them to “screen” our news, OBEY their orders limiting our choices (food, fuel, etc), and DISARM ourselves, then America can become the “paradise” the Left has screeched yearned for.

But wait, there already IS such a “paradise”!!

  • There everything not forbidden is compulsory…and vice versa.
  • Everything is recycled
  • Virtually ZERO use of fossil-fuels
  • NO squabbling or disagreeing
  • NO nighttime “light pollution” (perfect for star-gazers!)
  • Near 100% reliance on public-transit, and public housing
  • Full Government “oversight” of all news and information

Where, you ask, is this paradise?  North Korea!!  Yes, comrades, and all this awesomeness is coming here starting tomorrow!

Freedom to speak (and disagree), make choices (even bad ones), and be self-reliant, is often messy…and hard.   But every time a choice is taken from you, whether by force or by a “nudge”, your freedom is diminished that much more.  Every time you withhold your opinion lest you be perceived as “un-civil” you’ve surrendered a portion of your freedom.  Every time something it taken from you for the “common good”, your freedom is eroded that much more.

You do not have the luxury of simply living your life and minding your own business any more, for the armies of those intent on minding your business FOR you are growing every day.

Tyranny is neat, clean and sterile…“bad” choices are not possible!  We Americans, on the other hand, have always insisted on making on our own choices, and living with the consequences of those choices…even the bad ones.  That’s a price we’ve always been willing to pay.  I pray we’re still willing to pay it, for it’s the Price of Freedom

Nope, not for somebody like me.

The Dims are so short sighted. They clamor for the checks not realizing two things:

    * Stop worrying about the checks, open the economy back up, put people back to work. I would rather see the money go for ‘infrastructure projects’ even as much as a boondoggle most of them are.
    * The checks will in fact increase the economic disparity between those have/havenot individuals. A person like myself will shove the extra money into gold/silver/commodities so that when the hyperinflation hits I hopefully can weather the storm. Everyone else not so much.

Short answer — screwing over their constitutents.

drdog, the Dims are TRYING to crash the economy!

As for buying gold & silver, I fully expect them to make some “laws” regarding sale and maybe even possession of gold & silver that makes it difficult if not illegal to do so. And SCOTUS will let it slide.

The Dims can’t have their Socialist “Paradise” until the U.S. is demolished.

lol if it passed, which it won’t…. I think what would happen is severe yield curve steepening…or rather relentless steepening. Equities would crash. Fed would institute yield curve control to stop debt markets from exploding. Inflation measured by CPI would spike. Real interest rates would go hard negative hence gold would moon. At that point you would get a dollar that would be declining in a disorderly trajectory. usually equities go up when the dollar falls, but if like in 1987 (after plaza accord) the world perceives that the US is going through massive devaluation they exit their capital and things would just become disorderly.

I just want to point out that you must choose something or somethings to own right now. There was a 25-30% tax on holding cash in 2020 (see the Michael Saylor interview I posted.) I expect 2021 could be even worse. Hence the “safest” asset historically has become unsafe.

People get nervous equities because they don’t like 30% crash we had in March but holding cash is a guaranteed loss. Hence you must play the game in some form or another.

One of the things that’s happened since 1971 Nixon going off the gold standard is we have been hollowing out our manufacturing base and increasing imports to supply the world with enough dollars to act as the reserve. We’ve basically supported the US dollar by decreasing wages on the back of the middle class.

Now that they are broke, we’re supporting the middle class on the back of the US dollar/currency.

Taken to an extreme though like 2000 dollar a month checks (24k a year) this would actually represent a national security threat of sorts as the currency would break.

In the final days of the Trump admin they were trying to crack down on people have private crypto wallets as well btw.

    Worth being aware of.

“Under the advanced notice of proposed rulemaking, users who want to send cryptocurrencies from centralized exchanges to a private wallet would need to provide personal information about the owner of that wallet to the exchanges, if the amount sent is greater than $10,000 in one day. The exchanges would also need to submit and store records involving such transactions with a total value over $10,000 in a given reporting period, or just maintain records for transactions over $3,000.”

    JR, 6,

Having pondered the consideration of a repeat of the 1933 steal of gold from the public, I don’t think it will be in the cards if cool heads prevail. But alas nobody said Maoists were cool headed so a hedge is always wise. Be that as it may, I don’t think it is in the cards for the simple reason — They could not store it all.

There is more gold in public hands than there is held by the central banks, globally. There is also the reminder to the Kenyansians what happened in India when they implemented a stop order on the possession of gold — recession at 7 on the Ricther scale. Plus those Feds and Treasury mavens still believe gold is irrelevant to the operation of an economy. If they believed otherwise the MMT would not roll off their lips like cocaine addict on a binge.

That aside I have picked out my lake to have a boating accident if necessary.

Even if every country banned crypto, they couldn’t actually ban it at all since it’s decentralized.

They could ban entry points, and pass laws penalizing those who are convicted of partaking though and crash the price into the floor. Generally this doesn’t work though because any country that bans crypto bans their citizens from a major innovative platform. It even hurts their banks from innovating.

That’s why if anything all world governments would have to work together to ban crypto.

But one of the themes right now is that the more adoption, the more difficult it will be to ban. The more random pension funds etc that have exposure eventually it becomes almost systemic risk if they want to smash it.

If the government has control of every single person’s account, it makes things easy for the IRS and politicians to control.

Right now about 97% of the West’s money is created by private banks. When banks create a new loan to someone, they aren’t loaning some depositors money out as most people think. They just create the money, and it’s lent out and that’s how almost all new money is created.

This system gives the politicians little to no control of the creation of new money (and btw we have all sorts of insane bubbles with the system)

I think they will want to centralize everything and dump the private banks.

The private banks own and are members of the Fed. The Jamie Diamonds of the Street might have issue with that.

Well there are primary dealer banks that are special, but I’m talking about all banks even mom-pop ones.

Take their power away to issue loans\create new money, and just centralize everything with the Fed one institution or whichever respective similar institution in other countries.

I mean it’s hard to make everyone equal unless you centralize the control of money.

Even if Wallace and Biden DO get married, there is no way Biden will be able to consummate the marriage. Just sayin’

Understand. But if the top tier banks will not agree to having their piggy bank stolen where the heck do they think they even be able to reach down to the regionals and lower??

Personally I think the WEF is doing dope. Consider. The same bundle of people screwing up shit at the national level will be the same bundle of people that will be screwing it up internationally. Execute their plan and in 5 years it will all come crashing down. What they would like to do is MMT writ large. Same result, bigger disaster. Then the world WILL BE on the gold standard as nobody will trust anything else but gold.

If you get rid of the banks (and the insurance companies) and have a digital currency who is accepting the counter party risk? Under their scheme nobody. Its all fiat, there are no hedges.

I’m sure they do. That way, if your social justice score multiplied by your intersectional score isn’t high enough, you get squat.

    For the conspiratorial minded.
A link to 3 articles on the Federalist Society and how they betrayed conservatives and Trump.

Summary: “IMO, judges taken from the Federalist Society were the best we could get approved with the Congress we had, but they are not what Trump supporters call “conservatives.””
