Are Whites and Guns Really the Problem?

2021 July 5
by bc3b

I recently read an article stating that if you eliminated blacks and Hispanics, the US would have a lower murder rate than most European countries. Conditioned by a dishonest media, I was somewhat skeptical.  So, I did some research.

I took 330-million as the US population. The number isn’t really important, the percentage breakdown is. I found a current racial breakdown, which indicates 60.1% non-Hispanic white, 12.2% black and 18.2 Hispanic Latino. I then used FBI Table 6, which, unlike Table 43, breaks out non-Hispanic whites and Hispanic whites and determines the number of white, black and Hispanic murders per 100,000 population.

Here’s what I found:

  • Whites: .85
  • Blacks: 5.72
  • Hispanics: 1.62

So, blacks commit 6.74 times more murders per 100,000 than whites and 3.53 times the murders that Hispanics commit.

How does .85 per 100,000 compare to other countries of the world, most of which have stricter gun laws than the US?

  • Canada: 1.76
  • United Kingdom: 1.20
  • France: 1.20
  • Germany: .95
  • Sweden: 1.08
  • Australia: .89
  • Japan: .26
  • South Korea: .60
  • India: 3.08
  • South Africa: 36.40
  • Mexico: 29.07
  • Honduras: 38.93
  • Jamaica: 43.85
  • Global average: 7.60

So having the right to own firearms doesn’t seem to be a problem for white Americans or even Hispanics. But, these are facts rather than sociological theories and we all know that facts, like math, the Classics and punctuality, are racist.

Every weekend there’s a bloodbath in cities like Chicago.

But there are virtually no shootings in predominately white suburbs like Downers Grove, Batavia or Westmont or mixed race suburbs like Lansing and Chicago Heights.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has blamed Chicago violence on guns (which she claims come from Indiana and Wisconsin) and white supremacy, but never mentions black gangs.

If blacks are  to achieve equality, we must stop creating boogey men, like white supremacy, and false narratives produced by hucksters , like Critical Race Theory and Project 1619, and start working on the real cause – ghetto culture: a 77% illegitimacy rate, lack of education/training and a soaring crime rates. But, you can’t solve root causes if you refuse to admit they exist.

Hat Tips: FBI Table 6, – us population by race, list of countries by UNODC homicide rate (via Wikipedia) and Excel

Unfortunately, in today’s politically correct world, it’s racist to discuss root causes as that would be racist.

    What isn’t racist today?

Thomas Sowell’s self penned memoir (not the recent biography) makes the point that earlier Black communities were in much better condition.
Families and churches were strong. Employment was catching up to White levels, also the quality of the job mix were improving. Menial dead end jobs were falling, skills were rising.
I don’t have the book in front of me but I think he was talking about the 20s and 30s time frame.
    Things changed.

It ien’t difficult to make a case that blacks wre in a better position to succeed in the late 1950s, early 1960s (before LBJ’s War on Poverty caused the Ghetto Culture to grow at a much faster pace).

If the data doesn’t remotely support the narrative, the data must be rayray! Even mentioning such is heresy and makes you rayray. 😉

3 – Nobody cares, least of all the frauds in charge or the blm types, or the citizenry who enable it all.

5 – Very strong arguments could be made for that, but nobody wants to listen to it, and the few who have tried over the years have been ignored or targeted – one recently in the news.

1 & 6 – The word has no meaning what so ever anymore now that everything is rayray.

“Our adversaries can’t quite believe their good fortune.”
…WRONG, yes, they can believe it.

Contrary to his last sentence or two, a significant amount of this has been multi-decades long effort in the making, from mostly domestic forces, along with forces without borders so to speak, and only minimally (relatively speaking) the adversaries he mentions. None of those adversaries are surprised, at all, that there efforts have been working. Perhaps a few are surprised only at the speed of success in recent years as dominoes fall without some expected resistance, causing plans to be accelerated, and maybe some surprised at how they were able to get their opponent to fund their own demise repeatedly.

Probably all true. I do note that if you look thru history its dotted with empires falling, yet the countries remain. Fact history itself is just a recording of a long string of fallen empires. The Roman Empire fell, but Rome still exists as well as Italy.

It surprises me that the US ended up as it did. The underpinnings of the country were not even designed for empire, fact just the opposite. Our biggest failing is falling for the idea of shipping our jobs and manufacturing base overseas all for the pleasure of cheap plastic baubles. For that I blame Sam Walton more than anyone.

Might be a waste of drones tho. You look at the ratings of CNN and MSNBC and they are nothing. There are YouTube commentators with larger audiences. Once Trump was forced out, playing the underdog routine falls apart. Report real news? Pffft. That is all bad for their guy so nothing to report, cept maybe baseball scores.

All you need to know about Justice in America right now ….

Despite the extremely violent nature of the attack in which Rahman reportedly tossed a Molotov cocktail into the console of a police cruiser before hopping into a getaway car driven by Mattis, and the fact that the pair of left-wing attorneys were found to be producing and distributing Molotov cocktails to Black Lives Matter and Antifa-aligned radicals, federal prosecutors have been working hard to hammer out a plea deal for the pair of violent offenders.

According to the New York Post, both parties remain locked in negotiations with federal prosecutors and a federal judge has granted the pair a number of opportunities to work something out with the prosecution before having to face trial like a mere ordinary citizen. Both Mattis and Rahman remain out of jail, standing in stark contrast to the treatment received by January 6th Capitol Hill demonstrators who have reported facing Gulag-style conditions and severe physical abuse while awaiting trial in a Washington, D.C. jail on nonviolent charges.

While the pair of violent, far left-wing attorneys are still permitted to practice law in New York, Trump attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is not, having seen his law license suspended without any form of due process by the New York State Bar Association for daring to question the Democrat-media complex narrative surrounding the 2020 Presidential Election.

Think about it, the overlap between “door to door” campaigning and that, and even if org kept the two entirely separate (lol as if!) its a funding and recruiting in the lead up to the mid-terms.

41 – Yeah but in China… “just let them die” IS an option, it certainly has been in the past, so long that’s the same in the near term it doesn’t strike me as a “problem” the ruling class will have to care about… I’ll have to watch it all I guess.

Didi’s Downfall and the Case for Web 3.0
“Chinese autocracy cut off the ride-hailing giant at the knees. But tech centralization leaves tech companies worldwide just as vulnerable.”

“It’s hard to remember a more dramatic case of market whiplash. Chinese ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing completed its U.S. initial public offering on Wednesday, raising $4.4 billion from global investors at a market cap over $67 billion. Just two days later, on Friday, Chinese regulators announced a probe into the firm’s cybersecurity and ordered Didi’s app removed from local app stores. The app store ban could last 45 days and will prevent the company from acquiring new customers, with a potentially devastating impact given the intensely competitive Chinese ride-hailing market.

Today, the first full day of U.S. trading since the moves were publicized in the U.S., Didi stock fell as much as 25% on the New York Stock Exchange, dipping below its IPO price and cutting its market cap by as much as $22 billion. The surprise haircut could have serious long-term implications for Chinese equity markets because they highlight local political risk. But that political risk might not matter if not for a technical vulnerability shared by tech companies around the world: Their massive dependence on extremely centralized app stores means their lifeblood can be cut off without warning.”

Have read the book. A lot of what is in it is quite true. Heck half my IT career was extracting a 6% price reduction in IT asset prices every 3 years. But there is a piece he does not address:

Economies in many ways are microcosms of physical ecology. What happens to a species that gets very specialized, then the underlying ecosystem shifts? Yes, extinction. Booth links efficiency via specialization without considering that such specialization increases fragility in that aspect of the economy. Talib recognizes that fact.

In the video Booth provides music as a marker of technology making things cheaper. He is right, I don’t have to spend $12.99 for a CD with only one song I like. I can buy/subscribe for $3.99/mo to an entire song bank. But Booth does not address a key aspect — how many platinum records are minted today say compared to 1970? Fact very few. Fact there are fewer new bands today than in 1970. The shift to quicker, cheaper via technology has destroyed the music industry. Technology also forces concentration of value chains into fewer and fewer hands.

I would rather have 6 inefficient providers to provide choice than one hyper efficient provider (eg amazon) and no choice.
