A Tale of Two Cops

2021 December 26
by bc3b

Kim Potter, the white former Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright in April, has been convicted after appearing to mistake her handgun for a Taser during a deadly traffic stop.

Potter, 49, was found guilty on Thursday of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter in relation to the April 11 traffic stop that ended with the 20-year-old Black man’s death. The former officer, who resigned from the force after 26 years on the job, now faces 35 years behind bars when she is sentenced on Feb. 18.

Meanwhile, Byrd, a lieutenant in the Capitol Police, faced no charges for killing an unarmed Ashli Babbitt for trespassing during the January 6 “mostly peaceful protest.”

There are a number of differences:

  • Kim Potter was a white cop who killed a black man
  • Michael Byrd is a black cop who killed a white woman
  • Potter committed a stupid act, mistaking her service revolver for a taser
  • Byrd intentionally killed Ashli Babbitt
  • The Brooklyn Center, MN Police Department was open, releasing all footage
  • The government decided everything behind closed doors, with no civilian review
  • Potter showed remorse; Byrd didn’t
  • Byrd had previously left his loaded service weapon in a public rest room; Potter had been a Brooklyn Center officer for 26 years with no known problems and service awards
  • Potter faced negative media coverage while the media treated Byrd like a hero who saved the country

MINNEAPOLIS — Kim Potter ’s police chief at the time she shot and killed Daunte Wright testified in her defense at her manslaughter trial on Thursday, calling her “a fine officer” and saying he “saw no violation” of policy in her actions at the scene.

Tim Gannon resigned two days after the April 11 shooting, saying he believed he had to quit “because I would not immediately fire Kim Potter.” Potter resigned the same day.

So, if Kim Potter received the same type of review as Michael Byrd (by her own department), she would have been exonerated too.

Both officers made a split-second decision under duress. Both victims are dead. Potter faces up to 35 years in prison after being convicted by a jury. Byrd went Scot-free.

Anyone who watched the four clowns who testified before the January 6 committee likely came away with the impression that the Capitol Police compare unfavorably to night watchmen.

As if CNN didn’t suck enough. On December 21 it announced:

Capitol police officer Michael Fanone, who became the face of the January 6th riots, officially resigned from the force Monday, announcing that he will be joining CNN as a law enforcement contributor.

Since the events of January 6th, Fanone has become a frequent guest on national television– particularly CNN. His media appearances, which often warned of threats to democracy, were reportedly causing tension among other fellow officers on the force.

CNN obviously plans to be the January 6 channel right through the mid-term elections.

A closer comparison would be the officer that offed G. Floyd. Same city, same state. I appears that officers cannot receive a fair trail in the State. If I were a PoPo there I would be sending my resume` to more friendly areas to ply my skills.

It’s just about impossible for a white cop who kills a black to get exonerated these days regardless of the circumstances. The sainthood of George Floyd eliminated that. CNN and the “Alphabet Networks” provide non-stop coverage when a black is killed by the cops but provides virtually no coverage when cops kill an unarmed white or blacks kill a cop (like in Baltimore

    7,

Certainly. But the chances of a PoPo getting convicted is a lot higher in places like LA, SanFran, Minny, NYC than say Tyler TX, Culman, AL or Laurel, MS.

This excerpt from an article on American Thinker sums up my feelings on Omicron

Everything seems to suggest that Britons who fall ill with the Omicron variant are less likely to become severely sick than those who contracted Delta. That’s what British-American surgeon, professor, and author Marty Makary—who is one of America’s leading healthcare experts—had to say on December 16’s “Brian Kilmeade Show.”

“We’re seeing this massive new wave of fear that is fueling our second pandemic after Covid-19, which is a pandemic of lunacy, which is omicron. Now I call it omi-cold,” Makary said. The Omicron variant, he explained, “stays superficial in the nose and bronchus. So that’s why we’re seeing a common cold-like illness.” He added, “This new scientific data from the lab explains the epidemiological data and the bedside observation of doctors that this is far more mild… and that’s why I call it omi-cold.”

In the light of the above, I think we can guess the answer to our question, and New York Times bestselling author Heather Mac Donald sums it up: “The official response to the Omicron variant provides a case study in the deliberate manufacture of fear.”

The Left/Democrats/media (same folks) needed a sacrificial lamb…she fit the bill perfectly! They could have simultaneously charged her with damn near EVERY crime on the books, and the answer would have been: GUILTY

Another big difference in the cases is the societal value of the victim.
One dead victim was a habitual criminal.
The other was a patriotic, Vet citizen who cared about her country.

Basically seemed to be an open secret that benefitted communist party members and wasn’t cracked down on until something or other changed. I guess the administrators being knabbed weren’t well-connected enough.

In the US, I would consider us lucky if all the Fed were doing was double printing physical paper money. The Fed “printing” makes the CCP seem like amatuers.

PRP, Alex is a Trump supporter. It’s as if Alex is seeing his best friend propose marriage to a middle-aged gold-digger with three kids from three different fathers, on welfare, $100K in debt and he wonders how his friend thinks it will end well.

Personally, I think the best outcome for this is Trump loses enough support to read the writing on the wall and fade into the background. I believe Trump’s gut-level instincts are right most of the time, but his ego allows him to be far too easily manipulated by his enemies. Trump’s time has come and gone and it’s time to open the field to others who can perhaps take up the mantle and consistently move the ball forward rather than seemingly always fumble on the 5-yard line.

Two more items of CA madness, sigh.

    1) Watched episode 61 with Repub state legislator Kevin Kiley. He sued Gov Newsom for extending his “emergency powers” for so long. We are coming up on 2 years now.
Kiley WON his suit. Repeat, he WON. However, the court took no action. They said that the CA Legislature could choose to rein in The Gavinator. So, it was left up to the Assembly and Senate, which did nothing. We are still being ruled by decree.
    https://californiarebelbase.com/

    2) And in the micro-management department (be aware, this WILL come to YOUR state eventually), we have this. Note how they will phase in slowly and gradually grind you down:

Californians will ring in the new year with the unfurling of a groundbreaking law that will change how they dispose of their organic waste, particularly leftover food and kitchen scraps.
Senate Bill 1383 requires all residents and businesses to separate such “green” waste from other trash, but the program will be rolled out gradually for homes and businesses in the coming months, with the actual startup date varying, depending on the location of your home or business.
Fines can be levied for failing to separate organic refuse from other trash. But those charges aren’t scheduled to begin until 2024.

Note: my city already gave us new garbage bins with a side pocket for scraps a couple years ago. So far, it’s been “voluntary”.

A woman asks a CVS pharmacist to see the safety inserts that come with the box of vaccines that he is administering. He gladly opens them up for her explaining how, as with any drug in the pharmacy, these documents have all the safety disclosure information from the various trials that she is asking about. They are just 20+ blank pages. He is literally at a loss for words and admits she raises a lot of valid ethical concerns.

In 2020, I worked as a “stipend worker” for my County at a Vote Center. I was interested to just see what was going on. It was fascinating. It was easy to get the job because many, many elderly/retired chose to sit the election out due to fear of Covid.

I received a note from the County inviting me to apply for various temp positions in an upcoming special election in June as well as the 2022 off-year election. I found this question fascinating.
The part that caught my attention was the need for you to “acknowledge” and “accept” the requirement. I guess they don’t want you to sue over the issue? Being retired, I am not exposed to the bulk of the angst/drama/confrontation over Vaxx issues. What a relief and I am so sad for the rest of the population. (And you guys).

“The County of Santa Clara, as a condition of employment, requires that all County employees, and almost all interns and volunteers, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption request. If hired, you will be required to submit proof of vaccination or have an approved exemption request prior to your start date. Do you acknowledge and accept this requirement?”

    32, heh.

interesting account of some of the troubles with EVs that are not often talked about. Charging time, charger availability and range are issues that will be with us for quite some time.
    https://www.ericpetersautos.com/2021/12/07/you-might-be-shocked-and-soon-will-be/

But I esp approve and agree with commenters who say that EVs are a way station along the path of eventually taking away private vehicles. So that they can force us to use Public Transport (*they*, otoh, will NEVER use public transport themselves of course). First force us to use clunky, inconvenient vehicles. Then take them away as a favor to us.

And right on cue, I get an email noting that the *Conservative* gov’t of the UK is moving along that path.
Just imagine if Labour gets back into power.

UK Inches Closer To Eliminating Private Car Ownership
UK Government Transport Minister Trudy Harrison recently spoke at a mobility conference, addressing the future of personal mobility. In her comments, she said it was necessary to ditch the “20th-century thinking centred around private vehicle ownership and towards greater flexibility, with personal choice and low carbon shared transport.” That’s right, she said the quiet part out loud and showed the hand of a growing number of government officials.

Potter – Guilty of manslaughter – yup, Byrd guilty of at least same if not a higher charge. Agree though seems fucked up to be charged with both first and second degree for the same body – pick one prosecutor and stick to it. Celebrating I am not.

CVS pharmacists – ‘I’m feeling inadequate as a pharmacist right now’ almost seemed like a prepared way of handling it to disarm customers asking legit questions that can’t be answered. Another I’m just following orders from corporate…and yeah everything is ‘safe’, but yet in the same breath admitting he’s got nothing to back up that statement. Almost funny.
