Have We Reached O.B.I.T

The machines are everywhere! Oh you’ll find them all, you’re a zealous people. And you’ll make a great show of smashing a few of them. But for every one you destroy, hundreds of others will be built. And they will demoralize you, break your spirits, create such rifts and tensions in your society that no one will be able to repair them! Oh, you’re a savage, despairing planet, and when we come here to live, you friendless, demoralized flotsam will fall without even a single shot being fired. Senator, enjoy the few years left you. There is no answer. You’re all of the same dark persuasion! You demand – insist – on knowing every private thought and hunger of everyone: Your families, your neighbors, everyone — but yourselves.

— Outer Limits, “O.B.I.T”

In that 1963 episode, alien machine has been implanted into various facilities of the country that is capable of monitoring anyone. Capable of observing their entire private thoughts and actions. Of course in the episode it is being used for darker purposes. But the question has to be asked, have we unleashed O.B.I.T on ourselves? No dark alien, no invading force, just our own mechanizations.

At the outset of this study, we shared the same hypothesis as our computer science colleagues—we thought phone metadata could be very sensitive,” Jonathan Mayer, a graduate student leading the project, wrote on Wednesday.

“We did not anticipate finding much evidence one way or the other, however, since the MetaPhone participant population is small, and participants only provide a few months of phone activity on average. We were wrong. We found that phone metadata is unambiguously sensitive, even in a small population and over a short time window. We were able to infer medical conditions, firearm ownership, and more, using solely phone metadata.”

Mayer explained to Ars by phone that given the small sample size and the study duration of only a few months, the team had originally hypothesized that the information gathered would not be as revealing.

“I think it’s very certainly strongly suggestive that a larger pool that spans more time would have remarkably more sensitive information in it,” he added.

The new results provide a strong, research-based analytical counterweight to the government assertion that metadata is somehow less revelatory than capturing actual call data.

The researchers conducted only a small sample over a short duration and yet were able to discern gun buys, possible abortion, medical conditions, etc. all from cell phone meta data. The results were not even very sophisicated as second order cross links were not pursued for further analysis. Imagine what is possible using social science data analysis techniques.

So why can’t the NSA catch the bad guys one might ask? Well just like the Outer Limits episode, one must first have the needle out of the haystack in hand. The data pool that the NSA has gathered is so vast that merely looking for first and second order trends returns too many hits to be even the least bit sigificant. Take the Boston Bombing. They used a pressure cooker bomb. Filter for pressure cookers over any given time period and one would have returned millions. Add `foreign born` as a cross marker and the hits would still be in the thousands. Then add in the false flags of hits that were bought as presents and it becomes pretty clear that as a precog tool ala “Minority Report” the tools are not so discerning.

We have built the machine but dear friends the danger is ourselves —

“Oh, you’re a savage, despairing planet, and when we come here to live, you friendless, demoralized flotsam will fall without even a single shot being fired. Senator, enjoy the few years left you. There is no answer. You’re all of the same dark persuasion! You demand – insist – on knowing every private thought and hunger of everyone: Your families, your neighbors, everyone — but yourselves.”

I have to laugh when I suddenly see that wench DiFi moaning about the NSA and now today privacy with regard to drones. She seems to only give 1/2 a sh1t when she herself is being watched.

You are much more of a fururist than anyone else at BJG. In the past, you have had posts/comments on how automation and robotics will affect our lives in the future, even impacting the fast food industry.

Question: What are we going to do with all the uneducated, unskilled illegal aliens (and the equally uneducated, unskilled relatives they sponsor after they gain citizenship)?

Answer: Support their sorry @$$es for the rest of their lives … and the children’s lives … and the grandchildren’s lives … and ….

As Yogi Berra says, “It’s like deja vu all over again.”

“In 2011, while the rest of America argued the merits of the president’s Affordable Care Act, Vermont jumped the progressive curve, promising to launch the nation’s first health single-payer system, in which state government pays providers to care for all residents.

Now, even Democrats say that plan, called Green Mountain Care, isn’t ready for its proposed 2017 rollout, and Rep. Jim Condon told Vermont Watchdog it’s time for Gov. Peter Shumlin to shelve the ambitious plan immediately.”

Less care @ 2 or 3x the original cost estimates…. sounds like it’s working as designed.

Any state that elected an avowed socialist like Bernie saunders would be expected to pull something like this.

BTW I just caught the recap of Barry’s “sanctions” announcement and started laughing my ass off, apparently the markets here and there agree. You know if you’re not going to do anything then just stop talking and save us the embarrassment. Announcing treasury sanctions via executive order for 1/2 a dozen Putin cronies while calling them the harshest sanctions on Russia since the cold war just confirms again to everyone that you’re a clown.

We should declare a war with Canada over Vermont and purposely lose it. I have been told that much of Vermont is worse than Appalachia.

I’ll quote a line from a old movie — “Solyent Green is People!”

Wonder how Juan would feel being part of a taco?

Lump them right in with our own uneducated, unskilled college graduates and the equally uneducated, unskilled relatives they will soon spawn.

“Putin is set to respond to Obama’s sanctions of Russian officials with his own list. Several U.S. Senators and officials will be banned from visiting Russia, including Sen. Dick Durbin.”

In other news from that same article… apparently Jay Carney seriously wants to be the next US ambassador to Russia. If he wants to be an ambassador so bad I think he should be sent to Libya, I hear there is an opening.

drdog, that ‘O.B.I.T.’ episode was chilling at the time…and now that we’re essentially living it, it is utterly terrifying!

But remember, if you’re not doing anything wrong then you should welcome the government seeing EVERYTHING you do, hearing EVERYTHING you say, and reading EVERYTHING you write!

Coming soon: knowing EVERYTHING you think!

Carney deserves a first class seat on flight MHT370. Both are currently lost.

Actually it is easier than you know. The government just outlaws thinking altogether. Its where our education system is headed anyway.

bc3b = can you handle the truth?

The same people who told us about The One World Government, CFR, Trilateral Commission, Bilderbergers, Agenda 21, Smart Growth, and other entities will tell you “Population Reduction”.

The Powers To Be have said it so in their own words. But no, that can’t be. But you will see.

“I am convinced that the state exists only for the purpose of testing my sense of humor.

This morning, C-SPAN was running a video of last week’s Treasury Department conference on the subject “Youth and Financial Decision-Making.” One part of the program was titled “teaching kids to manage their budgets.”

It’s a timely topic, and with a national debt that exceeds $17,000,000,000,000, who better to help kids learn how to responsibly handle money than this gaggle of buffoons?”
