1st Amendment Tax

Compliments of the Forest Service….

The U.S. Forest Service has tightened restrictions on media coverage in vast swaths of the country’s wild lands, requiring reporters to pay for a permit and get permission before shooting a photo or video in federally designated wilderness areas.

Under rules being finalized in November, a reporter who met a biologist, wildlife advocate or whistleblower alleging neglect in any of the nation’s 100 million acres of wilderness would first need special approval to shoot photos or videos even on an iPhone.

Permits cost up to $1,500, says Forest Service spokesman Larry Chambers, and reporters who don’t get a permit could face fines up to $1,000.

First Amendment advocates say the rules ignore press freedoms and are so vague they’d allow the Forest Service to grant permits only to favored reporters shooting videos for positive stories.

“It’s pretty clearly unconstitutional,” said Gregg Leslie, legal defense director at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in Alexandria, Va. “They would have to show an important need to justify these limits, and they just can’t.”

Liz Close, the Forest Service’s acting wilderness director, says the restrictions have been in place on a temporary basis for four years and are meant to preserve the untamed character of the country’s wilderness.

This is worse than a tax. Its worse than a free speech zone like the Bundy standoff. This is a tax on your free speech with directorial control by your tax assessor. At the rate that free speech barriers are springing up; soon the only free speech you will have is inside your house. But that will probably be encroached as well.

Look at the consumption rate — http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/092414-718879-tomahawks-and-raptors-used-in-syria.htm — and keep in mind this is not even a full blown war. Bottom line, as a nation we are probably 90 days of combat away from capitulation thanks to this POS.

drdog your post and then comment #1 highlight the One-Two punch of Obama’s wrecking ball…

    (1) the erosion of our rights…leading ultimately to a “New Constitution”…based on “Positive Rights”. i.e. the forest service will GRANT you rights, under their conditions, etc. Every single aspect of the Constitution is either under attack…or being selectively ignored.

    (2) our ability to defend ourselves from external threats is, as you note, in severe jeopardy. Obama has forced budget cuts to the point that a VERY minor effort (so far) against ISIS can deplete our stocks of key weapons in mere days

There are two kinds of Jenga players…the first, tries to see how high the tower can be made, and thus looks to leave stability IN as they take their block. The second, intentionally introduces instability into the tower either to win themselves or have the biggest crash possible. Obama is the second kind…and he is just waiting to shout: “JENGA!”

“The story is real the protest is bull. This is communist, alinsky, garbage. Depending on the century all countries have shameful events in their past that is like stating the sky is blue.
This is more hate America garbage. I support dislike the GOVERNMENT and its evil deeds.
Of course, the government will not be painted in a negative light in this non-“conservative” desired curriculum. . The state will be presented as the savoir.
What does the awesome, sunlight giving, grass growing, state save people from…
    Too much freedom!
Too much uncertainty when free people voluntarily exchanging goods and services. Freedom?
But then how will the politically connected protect their profits and socialize their costs if there is freedom? / sarc
These poor students are useful idiots. I feel sorry for them; they are already being brainwashed into a political box of totalitarianism. Kids protesting to be slaves and mindless drones, poor suckers.

PS. I am sure the conservative curriculum is just as full of garbage as any other public school poison.”

    fight on,

Wow! That is the first reaction. But on pause, it does make sense for him to do so now. Doing it now gives Obama the chance to pick another person and have Dingy Hairy ram it thru the Senate. Wait till after the election and confirmation might be in GOPers hands.

5 – Next best thing to Obama resigning or dropping dead.
7 – Sadly yes, though if they are really planning on a gop senate (i doubt it), he should want Holder around to continue the blocking and ignoring maneuvers.

1/2 – Yeah I had to laugh that the president was one again using equipment he more or less didn’t want us to have. We depleted our cruise missile stocks pretty bad in march of 2003 as well, the difference was there was a budget and a WH that was keen to replace them (over time), why do I get the feeling no such requests will be forthcoming from this WH’s.

While it wouldn’t shock me if it were true, I don’t think it is, sounds more like al-Abadi playing into and regurgitating his given lines to assist the French and the US in their justifications to the world for actions they are taking lately to save his own arse. I can’t be the only person to wonder why there are really ZERO details around these supposed “operational phase” plots that suddenly appeared in the last week. It’s not like we don’t already know this administration will make sh1t up out of full cloth whenever they feel the need, youtube video anyone? Unnecessary theater in my opinion.

I had a good chuckle at Cameron’s easily predicted new found flexibility\willingness to participate, post the Scottish vote. 😉

“The great economist and libertarian, Murray Rothbard, in July 1977 wrote an important essay, Do You Hate the State?

    In the essay, he said:

There runs through [my book] For a New Liberty (and most of the rest of my work as well) a deep and pervasive hatred of the State and all of its works, based on the conviction that the State is the enemy of mankind.
The Noble laureate economist Friedrich Hayek, before Rothbard’s essay, warned us about the state in his book, The Road to Serfdom, especially Chapter 10, which he appropriately titled, “Why the Worst Get on Top.”

And I urge anyone, who is not convinced that government can become the ultimate in evil, to read R.J. Rummel’s Death By Government. I consider this book to be the most important book ever written, for the person who wants to understand historical examples of how evil governments can become. There is quite simply no force on earth as evil as government can be. Rummel’s book drives home this point in a manner that will never, ever leave you. The book will change you.

That the United States has not, yet, become a source of widespread domestic killing may be nothing but historical accident. As the state grows in power, and it is growing rapidly in the United States, the trip wire, that could trigger great domestic evil, is moved ever closer. And before we get to that dangerous trip wire, other freedoms are slowly being taken away from us, one by one–now almost on a daily basis.

And that is why it is important to shrink the power and capabilities of government, always and in every manner.”

    Fk you Comey.

This is the way it should have been from the start – besides you’ll just fk over everyone by grabbing 98% of the data you want from their cloud storage, cell records, cell taps, feeding them malware and god only know what other tricks so WTF are LEO really bitching about? Poor babies might actually have to do a little more police work, too fucking bad, and if that means on a rare occasion a perp gets off cause they can’t get the supposed proof “they think” is stored in someone’s personal property I’m completely fine with that – It’s the police\surveillance state that brought this upon themselves in the first place anyway.

““Apple will become the phone of choice for the pedophile,” said John J. Escalante, chief of detectives for Chicago’s police department. “The average pedophile at this point is probably thinking, I’ve got to get an Apple phone.”

Want to know when someone is full of sh1t, when they trot out the “but the pedophiles” as their primary excuse.

25 – Well it’s not like the NSA doesn’t lie, they’ve showed they’ll do so even to congress, multiple times. That said I’m with you on this, the school system person that claims this happened is lying, probably getting a kick back in one form or another from the monitoring system provider.

MOORE, Okla. (AP) — Police said Friday a man recently fired from a food processing plant in an Oklahoma City suburb beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by the owner of the company.
The 30-year-old man, who has not been charged, stabbed Colleen Hufford, 54, severing her head in Thursday’s attack at Vaughan Foods, Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said.

Lewis said the man then stabbed Traci Johnson, 43, a number of times before being shot by Mark Vaughan, a reserve sheriff’s deputy and the company’s chief operating officer.

“This was not going to stop if he didn’t stop it. It could have gotten a lot worse,” Lewis said.

Lewis said the suspect had been fired in a building that houses the company’s human resources office, then immediately drove to the entrance of the business. Lewis said he didn’t know why the man was fired.

So it appears that Holder resigned Thursday after a judge ruled on Wednesday that the administration could only have until Oct.22 to produce the documents for Fast and Furious. The administration was asking for a delay until Nov. 3, the day before election day. Wonder if Holder just got thrown under the bus to salvage the election…
