Scooter Freed…. Flynn Next?

2018 April 14
by drdog09

President Donald Trump issued a full pardon Friday to I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, suggesting the former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney had been “treated unfairly” by a special counsel at a moment when the president himself faces an escalating special counsel investigation.

Libby, Cheney’s former chief of staff, was convicted in 2007 of lying to investigators and obstruction of justice following the 2003 leak of the covert identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame. President George W. Bush later commuted Libby’s 30-month prison sentence but didn’t issue a pardon despite intense pressure from Cheney.

“I don’t know Mr. Libby,” Trump said in a statement issued by White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders, “but for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.”

Libby himself is of little importance except as the pawn that he his in this. Libby represents a shot to The Swamp that Trump intends to pardon Flynn in the near future. The White House is also telegraphing that they have the chits to pull it off.

Trump should pardon each one as they are forced to plead to anything…one by one.

It’s war, fight it that way.

Who knew? You can’t trust the Dem dominated CBO.
The cost of the Trump tax cut was WAY overestimated, it mostly pays for itself with increased useful economic activity.

Linked by Instapundit this article shows the Obama Admin decriminalized ID theft by illegals.
How Barack Obama’s DACA Encouraged Identity Theft by Illegal Aliens
Diving deep into the beginnings of DACA, Jan Ting, a law professor at Temple and former assistant commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), details how the Obama Homeland Security Department (DHS) kept the use of stolen Social Security numbers from being counted against would-be DACA applicants.

As he shows, the promise to forgive the crime, one that is pervasive among illegal aliens, was consciously designed to incentivize DACA-eligible “dreamers” to “come out of the shadows” and apply for the program.

In addition to being a blatant violation of the Constitution and our immigration laws, DACA can now be seen as the product of an administration that refused to enforce the law for political reasons, and at the expense of honest citizens.

Although almost never reported on, when illegal aliens steal a Social Security number, the consequences can be very serious for the legitimate user. On top of receiving IRS letters and audits accusing them of having income they are not claiming or having their benefits blocked, reconciling a compromised identifier is estimated to cost thousands of dollars and take years of effort.

I was hit with an ID fraud on a filing in 2014. IRS filed an inquiry for under reporting income. Made an appointment with the local field office in Fort Worth. Gave the person the details. They looked at my file and made a determination on the spot that it was an error. Lucky for me the second flow of income was identified coming from another state. The only pain now is I use a PIN on my 1040 filing.

Had that second income been in the same area I live in I don’t know how I would prove it is not mine.

Fyi. A total of 10 (!) MLB teams have won 1/3 or less of their games so far this season. Not even 15 games in either. Thoughts?

    Eph #18 –

I noticed that this morning. Lots of bad teams in MLB this year, including the Tigers. The Reds are probably the worst. The Dodgers, highest salary in baseball, have to be the biggest disappointment. It’s been an unbelievably cold spring. Icy roads in the Detroit area this morning (and tomorrow is tax day). The Tigers have already had 5 postponments (4 at home and 1 in Chicago), Scheduling makes no sense. Tampa Bay and the Yankees had a postponement in NYC. Why aren’t they playing in Tampa now and NYC in July – August?

It may be that they start the season too early and end it too late. It might make sense to go back to 154 games and reduce the number of interleague games. Because there are 15 teams in each league, they would have to shift one team (16-14) to eliminate interleague play as two teams would always be open. That’s how it was before they moved the Astros to the AL.

Another factor may be that many general managers wised up and stopped overpaying for free agents, particularly those beyond their prime. If you look at the standings, many of the teams doing really poorly are small market teasm (Kansas City, Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, etc.). Detroit is paying too much to players beyond their prime (Martinez and Cabrara). Baseball needs a salary cap like other major league sports.

On a brighter note, my Lansing Lugnuts (Blue Jays Class A) are 6-3. Tuesday is Dollar Days for the Lugnuts: hot dogs, pop corn, ice cream sandwiches and Miller High Life are all $1. Couple that with a $15 first seven rows seat on a nice summer evening and I’m in hog heaven.

Why cnsumer brands take political stands (and risk alienating part of their customer base) is beyond me. If I were buying ads or managing the agency buying ads, I would avoid FNC, MSNBC and CNN as well as controversial shows (promoting gays, bashing the Catholic Church, etc.).

Organizations also do a lot of dumb things – like the NEA and AFT being pro-abortion, That makes as much sense as Ford and ExxonMobil supporting a ban on combustion engines.

Cincinnati is a cool city. Never lived there, but worked there once (living about 55 miles away in Dayton). Different cities have different food favorites. In Detroit we have a ton of Coney Island restaurants. In Cincinnati, it;s chilli restaurants that are big.

I think a lot of teams are following the Houston Astros blueprint. Tank for 6-10 years and stockpile draft picks along the way.

Like the NBA, the MLB regular season is completely meaningless.

You might be right Eph. For a number of years the Astro had one of the lowest team salaries in MLB. The Royals had a fairly low team salary the year they won the World Series. Teams like the Tigers, Yankees and Dodgers have had the highest salaries in MLB in recent years and have no World Championships to show for it.

The Astros started 2016 with the lowest MLB salary, but built it up as the team progressed and it became obvious they would make the playoffs. The Tigers, by contrast, dropped $70 million from their 2017 opening day roster. Unfortunately much of their $129 million salary is tied up with “over-the-hill” players. $48 million on Miguel Cabrerra and Victor Martinez (37.2% of the team salary).

Today is the dumbest day in baseball when every player wears #42 to honor Jackie Robinson. Give the players a patch or simply have them eaar “Robonson” instead of their last name as the Winnipeg and Chicago players wore “Broncos” to shw their support of the junior hockey team. How do you know who is warming up in the bullpen or playing centerfield when everyone wears 42?

We could be looking at 10 teams with 100+ regular season wins. That might include a third place team too like the Mariners.

I don’t see 10 teams winning 100 games. Some teams currently on track (e.g. the Phillies) don’t have the ponies. There’s still a long way to go and lots of things can happen (injuries, etc.). Also, because the season is young, schedules are unequal. Again, with the Phillies, they have played five series – Braves, Mets, Marlins, Reds and Rays – two fair teams and three awful teams.

Yesterday and today’s Yankees – Tigers games were postponed. They planned to make up yesterday’s game as a day-night double header. They have rescheduled the day-night DH for June.

When I was a kid my dad used to take me to scheduled Sunday double headers. Pay one price and see two games with about a 45 minute break between them. Before the DH, we saw Billy Hoeft, a left-handed Tigers pitcher hit two home runs in one game, the only homers he hit in about a seven year career.
