“This smacks of bureaucratic retards finger-banging the pie because they could, and dollars to donuts, from 3000 miles away, in a windowless bastion of stupidity impenetrable to common sense.”

So, originally, the quarantine camps (and, presumably treatment centers) for those exposed to or positive for coronavirus were supposed to be Travis AFB in NorCal, and March ARB is So Cal.

Which, being both long-time military bases, and former SAC bases, have built in safety, security, and seclusion, plus obviously being airbases, making transport in and out stupid simple, and with the post Cold War drawdown, both bases having ample unused space to erect an ad hoc quarantine camp within the confines.

And then, 50-IQ (I’m being sporting) federal officials with CDC et al got some wild hare soopergenius idea to suddenly move 50 people known to be infected with full-blown coronavirus infection to the former Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa, once a giant campus for short-bus kids, and abandoned for years recently. (Because who wouldn’t want to dump a bunch of people suffering this year’s probable global pandemic right in the center of Orange County a few miles from Disneyland, instead of on a dingy old military base with SAC-level fences and perimeter security, amirite?)

And then the city of Costa Mesa, in which it is located, got wind of the scheme, and they asked a few teensy questions.

Questions like:

  1. The facility has been abandoned and idle for years, nigh onto a decade. The toilets don’t flush, the water doesn’t run, there’s no power, and nothing’s been in service for years. So how, exactly, do you propose to get water, power, sewage and waste disposal service, and a few million other things there up and running, in 24 hours or less? Were you going to magically pull all that out of your ass, Uncle Sugar,…or what?

  2. What’s your containment plan for this? The facility, in the middle of residential neighborhoods, is contiguous to high-density apartments and a public golf course, with two schools nearby. Just wondering?

  3. So, if something – anything – happens there once you bring in the infected patients, and someone dials 9-1-1, how, exactly, did you contemplate we’re going to respond to the scene of a known international pandemic biohazard site? And where would we take new victims, as opposed to just leaving them right there?

  4. What local hospital(s) will be co-operating with and assisting with care there?

  5. How were you planning on dealing with the metric f**ktons of biohazard waste?

  6. How many people did you imagine you could put there, and for how long?

  7. What’s your master plan for decon when and if the site is closed down?

And a few hundred other basic and pertinent questions, to which, apparently, the answer from the Black Gaping Maw of Fedholia was, “Fuck all if we know!”

Just to complete the scene for you…..

Folks, Presidents, Senators, CongressCritters come and go, but THIS is what resembles ‘running the country’. Only they spelled ruining wrong. God save us!

In any sufficiently large organization its that cog in the middle or lower that makes or breaks the enterprise. That is the guy or gal, regardless of planning that has to make the “damn thing work”. I have written many a detailed telecom plan, but in the end whether it worked or not in many cases depended on me slugging a few cases of beer down at the IBEW union hall to find out why it won’t work.

If you like term limits, go for it, just pick the right target to limit.

And no, I am not talking about Nancy Pelosi’s reaction to the SOTU. This is what goes for CDC operational planning in what might be the biggest pandemic since the Spanish flu outbreak of 1918.

Traveling all day yesterday, and so I missed the entire other thread about mini-Mike…drat.

But this thread is even more important, because it could literally be life & death.

In the age of Social-Promotion through High School, college degrees in “Gender Studies”, and promotion in government jobs based on “Diversity” versus QUALIFICATIONS, the potential for the corona virus to kill MILLIONS in this country becomes more real every day.

As Drdog notes, the incompetence required to make the Orange County move is staggering, but there is, I suspect, another element that led to this. Namely: military facilities are ICKY…and have [gasp!] military PEOPLE on them (and they are ickier!).

Re-read ‘Atlas Shrugged’, folks…the ONLY thing slowing it down now is Donald Trump. There is no stopping it…but he is slowing it down. But if Bernie (or any Democrat) is elected, it will be full speed ahead OVER THE CLIFF.

It couldn’t happen to a more-deserving company than P&G. Of course, I can think of many equally-deserving companies: Campbell’s, Kellogg’s, JP Morgan Chase, Boston Brewery and Anheuser-Busch to name but a few. Many very deserving companies are definitely impacted – Nike, Apple, etc.

You’re absolutely correct, JR. I am convinced that Mini Mike is as great a danger as Bernie. The only thing is that different people will be calling the shots: radical leftists vs. global elitists. The impact on the working class will be devastating either way.

Well here is the chaser to the above piece —

A city falls when its healthcare system is overwhelmed. A city falls when its national government fails to prepare and support its doctors and nurses. A city falls when its government is more concerned with maintaining some bullshit narrative of “Yay, Calm and Competent Control!” than in doing what is politically embarrassing but socially necessary.

That’s EXACTLY what happened in Wuhan. More than 30% of doctors and nurses in Wuhan themselves fell victim to COVID-19, so that the healthcare system stopped being a source of healing, but became a source of infection. At which point the Chinese government effectively abandoned the city, shut it off from the rest of the country, placed more than 9 million people under house arrest, and allowed the disease to essentially burn itself out.

    And so Wuhan fell.

So my mother calls me today…in a near panic, she was thinking this sell off had to do with Bernie winning Nevada and the market pricing in his win in November.

Took me 30 minute to explain it had 99% nothing to do with him and everything to do with cov19 and the obvious impact on global economics and all around fear, uncertainty and doubt surrounding it. How is it sometimes some otherwise level headed folks can be so out of it sometimes. /smh Though I did toward the end tell her… that the virus + economic disaster could eventually lead to the one she was calling about so in a way I guess they can be related (though it’s not what the sell off was about – thus far).

btw someone needs to tell him the ‘keep-oil’ stuff not only is useless but gets more absurd by the day, cause all we’re doing is keeping a relatively small field\section that’s half depleted from being used domestically by Syrians. It’s not like it’s even being used by anyone – let alone us (no us country is interested). At least change the language to ‘protecting\safe-guarding’ the oil or something, at least sounds better even if doesn’t remotely justify the cost of the presence to do so.

How bad was last night’s Democratic debate?

So bad that some are regretting that Yang dropped out. From the reviews I have seen, Lie-A-Watha had a strong performance as she took to the warpath for the second week in a row. The WoPo said Biden had a good night simply because he didn’t make any major gaffs (other than claiming 150 million people were killed through gun violence since 2007).

Apparently, the moderators had no control over the debate. Candidates were talking over each other and the audience was very vocal (cheering and booing) while candidates spoke. From this article, I get the impression that some of the audience may have been on Mini Mike’s payroll:
