Making the Most of the American Dream

2020 April 29
by bc3b

The “race card” has become a favorite weapon of the left and many blacks, who are looking for any possible excuse rather than taking responsibility for their lives. Here’s a story about a black kid from Columbus, Ohio, who, as an eighth grader, realized that he was responsible for his life and did something about it … and his ambition and hard work are paying off.

If Lashawn Samuel were a black activist claiming discrimination CNN would be covering him non-stop.

But, he isn’t. He’s just a hard-working black kid who is intent on making the most of the American dream. Every day after school (since eighth grade) he walks three miles to the Columbus library to study and take advantage of tutoring. He has been accepted by 12 colleges and universities including his school of choice Ohio State, where he will be a business major.

Lashawn should be receiving national media coverage so he can be an inspiration to other black youth. But, that’s not the type story that interests CNN.

Years of hard work have paid off for Columbus, Ohio teen Lashawn Samuel.

Living in poverty and struggling with hunger, Samuel had to be hospitalized at times due to health issues, and lost a friend to gang violence.

Nevertheless, the young man walked 3 miles every day from his home to a local library to study and get help with his homework.

Starting in eighth grade, Samuel began his daily walk from his home to the Columbus Metropolitan Library, where he would sign in to the Homework Help Center at 3:00 p.m., work until the center closed, and then walk back home.

Sometimes he walked home in the dark to his Section 8 housing.

Incredibly, the young man has now been accepted to 12 colleges, with several offering a full scholarship — including his dream college, Ohio State University, where he is planning on attending the Fisher College of Business.

Samuel will be the first person in his family to go to college.

The budding scholar said:

“I never would have achieved it without God, my family, my friends and this environment I have around me.

There’s always going to be a challenge or an obstacle that you’re going to have to overcome or grow out of. But as long as you keep true to yourself and have faith and persevere so that you can overcome it, then you will.”

Kelly Young, one of the Homework Help associates at the Columbus Metropolitan Library who helped Samuel, said:

“The kid has tremendous perseverance and he just keeps going.

During a time like this, when we are all facing such uncertainty, I think Lashawn’s story can really teach us. Using the resources that are around us in our community and depending on each other, that’s just the way that we can all get through this pandemic and all the uncertainty of what lies ahead.”

Look at the bright side, most are probably Libs. A bad thought I know.

We have discussed it any times. Have enough food on hand to last at least 6mos. Enough cash to cover 3mos bills minimum. That is the basics to be prepared in a emergency.

Yes indeed at the point about food supply. However…..

Here is what I think people are missing the point on — If a business/job exists in a capitalist system, by mere existence it defines that business/job essential. In a capitalist system if a function is not essential then over time that business/job will cease to exist. It is a core reason the lockdown was ill conceived.

Even HollyWeird is essential by definition. If you look closely at that industry over its lifespan since Edison it has died several times. The Big Studio system died giving way to the freelance system that has given ground to the CGI focus where big name actors don’t even need to apply. At the core, from time to time people need diversion. At the height of the depression movies were the release from the daily grind.

Better approach? Define at risk individuals. Determine levels of risks for these individuals that they can assess. (“I am a 3, I have smoked most of my life, have heart issues, and flu has always been a problem.”) Then let them take a course of action appropriate for their situation.

Yes, no. Were Abrams the VP pick it would most assuredly guarantee a Trump victory. The no comes in the form of ‘Do you risk it?’ at a national level even if the chance is very small.

American citizens are the luckiest people on Earth. Whether by birth or LEGAL immigration, if you area citizen of this country you are blessed with certain inalienable Rights as stated in the Declaration of Independence.

Further, our Founders created our Bill of Rights to LIMIT the government’s ability to interfere with our Rights by expressly forbidding certain actions by government at ANY level. The 10 Amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights, don’t grant Rights TO us, they stop the government from taking them FROM us. Three of the most important are the 1st, 2nd and 4th.

Yet the 1st, 2nd and 4th are the ones being suspended and/or limited during this “crisis”. Should we allow it for the “greater good” and our “safety”? Not without asking (at least) these six questions:

    (1) What action is being proposed by the government at any level?

    (2) For what reason?

    (3) What Rights are being suspended and/or limited?

    (4) For what reason?

    (5) For how long?

    (6) For what reason?

ANYONE who allows their Rights to suspended and/or limited WITHOUT asking, at least, those 6 questions, is a fool…and a potential slave.

Odd thing. During WWII none of those questions needed to be asked. Only two cases I know of during the whole of that period that posed issues — Internment of Japanese American citizens and seditious speech. Shows how low we have become. No one had to consider the questions as the boundaries were inherent.

An interesting set of comments at TheNewNeo. I rarely read there but the piece on Joe Biden regarding the Tara Reade case has some fun speculation:

commenter one, talking about the thought that Ms Reade could be an ace-in-the-hole available to remove Joe if necessary–
“I can’t see why Hillary would endorse today. … She had nothing to gain by endorsing now.
Unless she becomes Biden’s V.P. pick and then the hammer comes down…”

commenter two: (Hillary, on the show where she endorsed Biden) looks better than she has in a long time, what we could see of her. Looks like she’s lost some weight, hair done attractively. (So much for quarantine.) I wonder if she thinks there’s a way she can end up running again?

Prediction: if Hillary gets the nom and if she wins, she will attempt to put Trump in jail

Speaking of free govt food, have you seen any news stories of Mosques being raided police tactical teams during Ramadan:

    Michigan: your rights are provisional.
    Not valid during flu season.

In its ruling, the Michigan Court of Claims sided with Whitmer.

In his opinion, Judge Christopher Murray acknowledged that rights claimed by the plaintiffs were fundamental, FOX 2 reported.

“But those liberty interests are, and always have been, subject to society’s interests – society being our fellow residents,” the judge wrote. “They – our fellow residents – have an interest to remain unharmed by a highly communicable and deadly virus, and since the state entered the Union in 1837, it has had the broad power to act for the public health of the entire state when faced with a public crisis.”

Issuing an injunction against Whitmer’s order “would not serve the public interest, despite the temporary harm to plaintiffs’ constitutional rights,” the judge added.

“We are seeing the most draconian measures ENFORCED at some STATE & LOCAL LEVELS of government that we’ve ever seen in our lifetimes, and yet, rather than being alarmed by the things going on, so many of you applaud.

President Trump’s guidelines are VOLUNTARY & TEMPORARY but some Democrat states & cities are taking it one step further, extending the lockdown and CRIMINALIZING behavior. Bill Gates wants to keep America locked down for 10 months! THAT’S WHAT LIVING UNDER A COMMUNIST REGIME LOOKS LIKE, AND YOU APPLAUD.

People are being arrested in some states for spending too much time outside, and you applaud.

Pastors are being arrested in some states for daring to hold church services, and you applaud.

A child’s birthday party is raided by police, and you applaud.

A young woman is ticketed for going on a leisurely drive alone because it’s deemed “non-essential travel”, and you applaud.

A father is handcuffed & arrested in an empty park for playing softball with his 6-year-old daughter & refusing to turn over his ID, and you applaud.

A lone paddleboarder in the ocean on a beach without any other people around is arrested because he’s violating quarantine orders, and you applaud.

Businesses are being forcibly closed and padlocked and owners arrested for refusing to shut down, and you applaud.

Dairy farmers are being incentivized to stop dairy farming and to sell their herds, and you don’t seem to understand the implications.

You’re being told to use hotlines and online forms provided by your local governments to report your neighbors who don’t obey, and you comply.

You scold people day after day for not obeying government edicts, and if any of us dare to question what’s happening, you lecture about how we’re a danger to society and we just don’t care about people dying.

You’ve somehow managed to convince yourselves that the people whose lives are affected by a virus are MUCH more important than the people whose lives are being destroyed (and in many cases, leading to death) by the effects of a worldwide economic shutdown and impending worldwide depression the likes of which no one has ever seen before.

At what point will you start QUESTIONING what’s going on?

At what point will you ask how the virus got here from China? (as if it wasn’t manufactured here and even over there)

At what point will you question why the fake news keeps defending the Communists?

How far do you have to be pushed before you’re jolted awake from your slumber?

How far are you willing to go with this?

If they told you to load your families onto train cars so that you could be taken to Virus Protection Facilities for your own safety, would you do it? —> YES. Yes, you would.

That much has become painfully obvious to me. And the whole time, you’d be shaking your finger and yelling at those of us who refused, accusing us of being “a danger to society” and “not caring if people die.” But they don’t have to load you onto train cars and take you to Virus Protection Facilities, or force you to comply, because you do that voluntarily.

The fake news controls your mind. They control you through fear. They control you by convincing you that the world is a scary dangerous place, but they’re here to protect you, care for you, and keep you safe, just as long as you OBEY.

They know that as long as you’re locked inside your comfortable home with Netflix, Hulu, CNN, NBC, ABC, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and a cell phone, you’ll comply. No force is necessary for the majority of the herd.

Bill Gates even wants to mandate antibody tests. ONLY those who are immune from VIRUSES will be allowed to leave their homes & work. YOU ARE IMPRISONED, willingly, and you’re too blind to see it.”

    I will not be blinded!

I will not be controlled by the government!

Is it MI or WI where the legislature rebuffed the Governor’s intention to extend the shutdown past the period allowed by law and the Gov vowed to disobey?

So this is the recap from today’s legislative action: they DID NOT approve Whitmers request for another 28 day extension. Therefore, at the stroke of midnight ALL EXECUTIVE ORDERS she’s issued are DEAD and MOOT. Feel free to open up your small businesses and start working again

HOWEVER, this rogue Governor will attempt to claim authority under the 1945 Statute to act on her own, BUT legal precedents DO NOT SUPPORT HER. Everyone with a passing knowledge of the law knows that PRECEDENTS are what they go by, and the PRECEDENTS regarding the 1945 Emergency Power of the Governor law is that it MUST be combined with the more restrictive 1976 Law, and that was denied her today.
