9 Is an Important Number

Throughout the history of sports many sports Legends have worn number 9 – Gordie Howe and Maurice Richard in hockey, Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson and Roger Maris in baseball, Drew Brees and Sonny Jurgenson in football.

But the number 9 has additional meaning. 9 is the number of unarmed blacks killed by law enforcement officers in 2019 (compared to 19 whites). It also represents the number of people (including a 3 year old boy) who were killed by gunfire  in the first part of the Fathers Day Weekend (from 5 PM Friday until Sunday morning) in Chicago.

Unlike the 9 blacks killed by law enforcement officers, the news of 9 (likely all blacks) killed in Chicago was largely (completely?) ignored by CNN, the rest of the leftist media, #BlackLivesMatter and their supporters. Think about that for a minute:

  • There was nonstop media coverage of George Floyd, a career criminal arrested for trying to pass a counterfeit $20 bill – a black life that mattered
  • There was little (no?) coverage outside of Chicago when an innocent black child was murdered – a black life that didn’t matter.
  • George Floyd’s death advanced the leftest agenda, the 3-year old’s didn’t. It’s that simple.

The thread below was posted early Sunday morning.

CHICAGO (WLS) — As of Sunday morning, 60 people were shot, 9 fatally, across Chicago during Father’s Day weekend.

Four minors, including a 3-year-old boy, were among the victims who were fatally shot, police said.A teenage girl, 2 teen boys and a 3-year-old are among the dead.

A 27-year-old man was driving his 3-year-old son in the 600 block of North Central Avenue when a blue Honda pulled up and fired into their car just before 6:30 Saturday night, according to police.

The child was struck in the back about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the man was only grazed, but the 3-year-old was hit in the back and later died.

The father drove the boy to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said, but the boy was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The father was also treated for a graze wound to the abdomen.

“Our city’s collective heart breaks… There are simply no words to describe such a heinous, unconscionable act of cowardice to shoot at a toddler,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted after hearing of the incident,

Our city’s collective heart breaks to hear the unfathomable news of a 3-year-old boy who was shot and killed tonight on Chicago’s West Side. There are simply no words to describe such a heinous, unconscionable act of cowardice to shoot at a toddler.

Then about two hours later, a 13-year-old girl was fatally shot in the 1000 block of North LeClaire Avenue in the Austin neighborhood.

Police say 2 teenage boys were sitting on a porch when one noticed a laser pointed at him.

Gun shots followed. The boys were both hit, but taken to the hospital in good condition.

According to investigators, the 13-year-old girl was inside the home when a bullet struck her in the right side of the neck. She was taken to the hospital but later died.

Two teenage boys were killed just over an hour before that in South Chicago.

Two teens were killed in a shooting on the South Side Saturday night.

Jasean Francis, 17, and the 16-year-old were in an alley about 5:10 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Luella Avenue when a male suspect approached them and fired shots, authorities said. Francis was shot in the back, chest and hand while the 16-year-old was shot in the back and side. Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

The latest fatal shooting left a man dead and three others injured early Sunday in Humboldt Park.

The men were arguing with a group about 12:04 a.m. in the 2600 block of West Potomac Avenue when they were shot, authorities said. Alexis Perez, 41, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene. Two other men, 23 and 21, both went to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The older man was shot in the knee and hip while the younger man was shot in both legs. A fourth man, 34, was shot in his legs and arms. He was treated and released from Mount Sinai Hospital.

Two men were shot, one of them fatally, in another attack Saturday evening in Austin.

Officers responding to reports of a person shot at 7:46 p.m. in the 200 block of North Central Avenue found the two men on the sidewalk, police said. A 27-year-old was shot in the torso and taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The other man, 32, was hit in the left foot and taken to the same hospital in good condition.

Less than an hour before that, a man was fatally shot and another was injured in Logan Square on the Northwest Side.

The men, 23 and 24, were outside about 7 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Western Avenue when a group of males approached them yelling gang slogans, according to police. The group asked what gang the men were with, and a fight ensued. During the altercation, one of the males pulled out a gun and fired shots.

The 23-year-old man was struck in the neck and pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The 24-year-old was hit in the arm and was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in good condition.

Another man was killed Friday night in Garfield Park on the West Side.

Almos Collum, 33, was driving about 10:25 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Congress Parkway when a black SUV approached and someone inside fired into his vehicle, authorities said. He was shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 10:49 p.m. He lived in Austin.

The weekend’s earliest homicide happened less than an hour earlier blocks away in Austin.

Three men were outside about 9:52 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Gladys Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle unleashed gunfire, police said.

Johnny Teajue, 33, was shot in the neck and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He lived in Washington Park.

A 34-year-old man was shot in the foot and is in good condition at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said. A 43-year-old man who was shot in the lower back took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

In nonfatal shootings, a teenage boy was shot early Sunday in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

The 17-year-old was in a vehicle with three other people at 12:36 a.m. on West Hirsch Street when someone walked up and started shooting, according to police. The vehicle took off and hit several parked cars. The four occupants got out, at which point the suspect shot the teen in the abdomen. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.

Another teen boy was grazed by a bullet early Saturday in Little Italy.

The 17-year-old was driving about 12:45 a.m. on South Loomis Street when someone in a gold sedan fired shots, police said. He was grazed in the ribcage and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

A few minutes later, a 64-year-old woman was shot inside her home in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

She was inside at 12:49 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Lawndale Avenue when bullets came through her window, according to police. The woman was hit in the arm and taken to Norwegian American Hospital in fair condition. She did not appear to be the shooter’s intended target.

The weekend’s earliest instance of gun violence wounded a 35-year-old woman Friday evening in South Shore.

She was with a group of people about 6:30 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Phillips Avenue when a light-colored SUV pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. She was shot in the arm, and her condition was stabilized at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

At least 37 other people have been hurt in shootings in Chicago since 5 p.m. Friday.

Whether it comes to repairing automobiles or society, you can’t fix the problem without addressing it’s causes. Ignoring the 77% black illegitimacy rate, high dropout rates and black-on-black crime and blaming inequality makes as much sense as blaming the tire manufacturer when a car has engine problems rather than doing engine diagnostics.

    Two can play that game.

    * If you go to Hawaii, don’t post anything till you are at the airport. Just before the stew says turn off all electronic devices post the the entire trip with one last pic — “Been nice, coughed alot, we’re on runway 9 now.”

    * Post pictures of a previous trips to hawaii. (I made semiannual trips there when I was a network engineer.) Flood the zone. Make it harder.

What is not said in that missive of an article is that she is an unemployed news personality. Seems fitting somehow.

It appears rioting and looting is moving to the suburbs (surprise, surprise):

Eph, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Scottsdale pretty white?

This is just what these merchants needed after being shut down for a couple months. Rioting and looting further speeds the demise of shopping malls.

Shopping will change if this continues. Instead of being on open display they will be behind counters and you have to ask for assistance to acquire what you want. Be just like the ole timey general store or GUM in Moscow.

How crazy are people in Oregon? Crazy enough to build a park in the memory of a beached dead whale that authorities exploded 50 years ago when they couldn’t figure another way to dispose of its rotting carcass:

Meanwhile, monuments to American heroes are destroyed.

    Exploding whale.
    a snip from the story:
“… the highway engineers hit upon the plan — remember, I am not making this up — of blowing up the whale with dynamite. The thinking here was that the whale would be blown into small pieces, which would be eaten by sea gulls, and that would be that. A textbook whale removal.

So they moved the spectators back up the beach, put a half-ton of dynamite next to the whale and set it off. I am probably not guilty of understatement when I say that what follows, on the videotape, is the most wonderful event in the history of the universe. First you see the whale carcass disappear in a huge blast of smoke and flame. Then you hear the happy spectators shouting “Yayy!” and “Whee!” Then, suddenly, the crowd’s tone changes. You hear a new sound like “splud.” You hear a woman’s voice shouting “Here come pieces of… MY GOD!” Something smears the camera lens.

Later, the reporter explains: “The humor of the entire situation suddenly gave way to a run for survival as huge chunks of whale blubber fell everywhere.” One piece caved in the roof of a car parked more than a quarter of a mile away.”

I’m certain it’s illegal and possibly it’s morally wrong to shoot a suspected shoplifter but I feel a lot of sympathy for this lady.

Nashville liquor store owner, 88, explains why she shot alleged shoplifter: ‘I’m fed up.’ “I did what I had to do, and I hope word gets out on the street that I’m fed up and I’m not taking it anymore. . . . You’ve got to stick up for yourself sometimes.”

Interesting article on the China/India clash in the high mountains of Himalaya.
Last week I saw an article that said the Indian citizenry were shocked and appalled that a dozen or two Indian soldiers had been killed by Chinese soldiers wielding iron bars who literally beat them to death.

I didn’t know what to make of it.

This article implies that the soldiers are not allowed to be armed in the area, thus improvised weapons are being used. Talk about crazed rules of engagement….

“Inputs accessed by The Sunday Guardian post the debriefing of these 10 men, revealed that the outnumbered and “unarmed” (as the rules required them to be) Indian troops, rather than retreating in view of the huge number of Chinese soldiers, grabbed the improvised clubs and rods that the Chinese were using to batter Indian soldiers, and used the same to kill “at least” 20 Chinese soldiers and officers at patrol point 14.

“This was one reason for the high morale of our troops who came back to us on Thursday. Our men were captured after they chased the Chinese into their area of domination, with the intention to kill them after hearing of the loss of their CO, Colonel Santosh Babu. The Chinese soldiers, seeing the unexpected attack from our men, started fleeing and running back to their area and were followed by our men, who were then captured”, the official stated.

The debriefing of the 10 men has also revealed that the Chinese soldiers were in a state of shock and fear after the Indian soldiers replied with “sheer fighting force” to the treacherous attack by the Chinese. “

My point is that the whale had been long dead before the engineers decided to dynamite it. Sort of like cremation. Since it was long dead, the explosion didn’t harm it.

NASCAR has completely changed. Thirty years ago the cars were obviously Dodges, Fords and Chevys. Today’s NASCAR Fords, Chevys and Toyotas look nothing like the street models you see in a dealer’s showroom. In fact it’s hard to tell a Ford from a Chevy from a Toyota.
