“Gradually and then suddenly”

In Hemingway’s ‘The Sun Also Rises’ one of the characters, Mike, is asked about his money troubles…

How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.

Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.

Our Constitution has been eroded over time…”gradually”. We are now at the “suddenly” stage.

In fact, the Democrats are not even trying to hide their disdain for the Constitution, especially the 1st , 2nd, 4th and 6th Amendments, and are promising “laws” & “regulations” that would effectively neuter them…”suddenly”.

The First Amendment was intended to protect Speech, Press, Religion and Assembly. The Democrats are eagerly redefining WHAT Speech is protected, WHICH Press outlets are approved, WHAT Religions (and Religious Rights) are approved and thus protected, and WHO can Assemble (hint: not “Deplorables”).

The Second Amendment states that …”the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Maxine Waters Bill, H.R. 127, would render the 2nd Amendment meaningless…and it is only ONE Bill being proposed. Across the country at a State level the 2nd Amendment is under relentless attack.

The Fourth Amendment provides: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures…” By simply redefining the term “unreasonable” on a situational basis this Amendment can easily be neutered…and corrupt judges (like those on the FISA Court) will play along.

The Sixth Amendment guarantees, among other things, “…the right to know who your accusers are and the nature of the charges and evidence against you.” Across the country people are being encouraged to spy and inform on their neighbors for everything from “mask violations” to “improper garbage sorting”, to “dangerous speech”. AND, the rats are promised they will NEVER have to face those they accuse.

Our Constitution, and thus our Freedoms, have been eroded “gradually”…over the next few months they will be neutered “suddenly”.

    Good post, JR.
Yeah, who would’ve thought we’d be where we are now back a year ago? The rot went deep so the things have crumbled unbelievably quickly.

Seems to be a lot of excitement around silver at the moment. It’s wkend spot price is trading a bit higher than usual I’d say. Will be interesting to see what it does Monday and this coming week.

I don’t believe the bears though.

Q2 is going be a barn burner 5-12% GDP growth and probably 3% inflation. After that the sh$% will likely hit the fan until the fed\fiscal does more stuff, but in the mean time I think it’s most likely we just enjoy the ride.

Good. Even bigger question — What the F is it any business of the US government to give two hoots about the abortion policy of another country? Course that presupposes we are not handing out money all over the planet which I don’t think we should be, we’re broke ourselves.

Something is happening on the silver market.

Might be something or it could be nothing. I know the people on Reddit were talking of buying silver. I also know that the silver market is not the thick. I believe the number is less than 2% of the public is involved in silver. Just double that and there would be shortages.

“I also know that the silver market is not the thick.” — GN

Estimate is only $20Bn is in trade worldwide so it is a thin market indeed compared to the global economy.

This might interest you — https://www.goldbroker.com/news/paper-silver-market-250-times-size-physical-silver-market-526. Excerpt —

“This would mean that, for every ounce of physical silver, there are 250 ounces of « paper » silver circulating in several financial products. In other words, only one contract or certificate issued out of 250 would be convertible in physical silver.”

And my precious metals supplier has this banner up right now —

*** Attention: Due to extremely high weekend volume, we cannot accept any more new orders until global markets open on Sunday night. ***

    And this — https://www.kitco.com/commentaries/2021-01-28/Short-squeeze-on-silver-from-Reddit-s-WallStreetBets.html

WSB is probably making their move against the paper side of the silver market. Me, I am calling my supplier on Monday to see how fast I can make arrangements to move the stack to their vaults (or don’t need too) for a quick sell order if the price really moves. Like say a $250/oz kind of ride. Then buy it all back on the down ride. (My interest in silver is a bit longer. If the Congress passes something like a GND silver demand will rise to cover the solar panels and cars that will require silver in their production. A $50/oz price would not be unrealistic in those terms.)

Now there might be a down side. It has been rumor for a long time that JP Morgan has like 100m oz of silver physical in a vault. Its how they know they can control the market in that metal. JPM is the wildcard on whether the short squeeze on SLV plays out like the WSB crowd hopes. And nothing I say here is financial advise, just what I am observing.

drdog – have heard that there is any where from 200 to 1 to 500 to 1 on the paper side of silver at any given time. Also heard about JP Morgan, still the problem is that if you get a run, watch out.

Silver has always had more commercial uses giving it a greater value. And you are right, with solar panels and the push with green – silver should go higher.

    Lets see?

    Bullets – can’t find them.

Bullion – getting harder to get.

    Beans – food shortages coming.

Band Aids – since Covid – some medicines are limited in quantity.

Interesting times. The ride is going to get bumpier.

    GN, 17,

Yep on all counts. Would be nice though to increase the stack by 50% or so and only be paying the premium to do so.

Progressives, Conservatives are bad people with ideas.

The author of the linked article uses an excellent metaphor…though he spends too much time setting it up. Still, America IS caught in a “rip-tide”. The middle of his article is excerpted below, with emphasis by me in one part.

“I can only speculate as to what the hidden disruption was. Just like the mass of seawater retained by that hidden sandbar, the great weight of American anger was being held back by something that has now failed. But something is very different in America.

And now the government is adopting the same tired old approaches to civil unrest: domestic surveillance and harsher penalties (eventually torture, kangaroo courts, and some sort of gulag/camp if the historical pattern holds). It seems the riptide will continue as more and more people get pushed through the dissolving societal structure and into the wide-open of the unknown future.

What else can the government do? No government ever says, “Perhaps the answer is LESS control.”
