Biden Inserts Himself in Chauvin Trial
Calls evidence “overwhelming,” praying for the “right verdict.”

President Joe Biden on Tuesday said he is praying for the ‘right verdict’ in George Floyd trial and called the evidence ‘overwhelming.’
‘I’m praying the verdict is the right verdict. Which is – I think it’s overwhelming in my view,’ Biden told reporters in the Oval office. ‘I wouldn’t say that unless the jury was sequestered now.’
Biden called Floyd’s brother Philonise on Monday after the jury went behind closed doors for their deliberations deliberations on the charges of murder and manslaughter against Chauvin.
‘I waited until the jury was sequestered and I called,’ he said.
‘I’ve come to know George’s family,’ Biden noted as he said he ‘can only imagine the pressure and anxiety they’re feeling.’
Biden has denounced Floyd’s death but had stopped short of weighing in on the trial until now. His extraordinary comments come as the 12-member jury began its second day behind closed doors and the nation waits for their decision.
The president’s comments come amid growing anger among Republicans for Rep. Maxine Waters’ calling for Chauvin to be found guilty and for Black Lives Matter protesters to be ‘more confrontational’.
The California Democrat sparked outrage by travelling to Minneapolis on Saturday and urging protesters to ‘get more confrontational’ if Chauvin was acquitted. She was back on Capitol Hill Tuesday, presiding over the House Financial Services Committee, which she chairs. Democrats have defended her comments.
Her remarks, on the eve of the jury retiring to consider its verdict, were widely condemned and may, it emerged on Monday, have handed Chauvin’s defense grounds for appeal and the turning over of any guilty verdict.
Meanwhile, Philonise Floyd said Biden, who has buried a wife and two children, spoke to him about what it’s like to lose a family member.

I agree that acquittal is unlikely. I would imagine that any prospective jurors who felt there was a possibility of acquittal opted out for fear CNN would dox them. Sad. Between Mad Maxine and Slow Joe, there is plenty of reasons to appeal.

As we’ve discussed numerous times – why would anyone want to be a cop in 2021? You put your life on the line every day and if you make a mistake and kill someone, you’re headed for prison (unless you’re a federal cop – Capitol Police, FBI, ATF, etc. – Any group except the Border Patrol and ICE.

gn – Correct me if I am wrong, but when I lived in Ohio long ago, the Ohio Highway Patrol was primarily ticket writers, rather than a state police force (like in Michigan). If a crime didn’t happen on an interstate or state highway, they didn’t get involved.
Michigan’s State Police handles investigations in rural areas where local law enforcement is virtually non-existent.
But, the Ohio Highway Patrol has cool Mountie-style hats. Why not just send the Cub Scouts?

bc3b – what you said about the Ohio Highway Patrol is correct. It is the “Highway Patrol” not the “State Police”. I have seen them in some capacity protect government buildings BUT not really for “Riot Control”.
My understanding is that they are there more as backup to the Minnesota State Police and not riot control.
They were also “ASKED FOR” as part of some state compact where the states ask each other for aid and assistance for unusual events/occurrences. The good news is that the State of Minnesota is picking up the tab.
