Who Decides What’s Misinformation/Disinformation?

2022 March 11
by bc3b

The Department of Homeland Security, headed by Adolf Mayorkas, is threatening to act against those spreading misinformation/disinformation (especially in the areas of countering approved narratives related to diseases and election fraud).

This is something social media has been doing for several years, but the boundaries keep changing. Suddenly Facebook has decided that posts wishing harm and death to Russian soldiers and Vladimir Putin no longer violate the rules.”

In recent years we have discovered than many conspiracy theories have been proven to be true. A few include:

  • The Great Reset
  • Schools are teaching critical race theory
  • The government was planning mandates
  • The Wuhan virus started (intentionally or accidentally) in the Wuhan Lab
  • There are US-funded biolabs in the Ukraine

At the same time, there are other things, presented as true, that have turned out to be conspiracy theories. Some of the best-known being:

  • The Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government in the 2016 election
  • The boys from Covington Catholic were racist
  • Anyone who questions the approved narrative on the Russian-Ukraine war is a “Putin Puppet”
  • January 6 was the equivalent of 9-11

Much of the misinformation/disinformation has been spread by CNN and the rest of the corporate media. The major difference is that misinformation/disinformation spread by the corporate media is viewed by millions/tens of millions while misinformation/disinformation spread by most Facebook/Twitter users reaches dozens/hundreds.

Who decides what is misinformation/disinformation? An army of woke, young, leftist brownshirts that would make Joseph Goebbels proud. Unfortunately, the war of misinformation/disinformation is just another leftist tactic to silence dissent.

What are your thoughts?

The GOP needs to declare all-out war on the corporate media. What does it have to lose.

The 2012 presidential election illustrated that the corporate media will even work to destroy cowardly eunuchs like Mittens, who bow to them.

JR, back thread: “every gas station in our area jumped their prices $1.10 yesterday”

I just got on to report the same thing. I got gas at CostCo today. The line is long and blocks normal shoppers from parking their cars, thus the nearby major road is blocked by people who try to turn left and then get caught in the intersection because people in front can’t move.

My last 3 visits: $4.16.9, $4.23.9 and now today–$5.29.9 per gallon.

That list, 11, is great and I bet there are plenty more good questions that could be asked.
Recall that GOPe cooperated in burying the stolen election.
Recall that GOPe Senate wouldn’t even go out of session to allow Trump to appoint officials. Instead they cooperated with Dems to delay indefinitely.

Been consumed with “issues” up here in the foothills, so not around much…sorry.

The answer to the question “Who Decides What’s Misinformation/Disinformation?” is, of course, The Ministry of Truth!

The MoT will weigh in on this topic at some point…hopefully soon. 🙂

In the meantime, mpt’s point that there are no “good guys” in the conflict is, IMHO, spot on. The average Ukrainian citizen, like average citizens most anywhere, just wants to live their life. So they are as good as it gets. Historically they’re not all “angels” either, of course. The fog of this war gets foggier every day.

I am now in the camp with JR and MPT that heir are no good guys. What’s troubling is where this is headed.
So If RU takes over they get a crippled if not destroyed Country. A populace that will not be compliant. Enormous costs in life and supplies to occupy UA. Future generations of Ukrainians hating Russia.
When Putin leaves this mortal plane do the Ukrainians rise up and take their country back.
    All so senseless.

Further on the UA situation — https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2022/03/12/ukrainian-killing-field-belarusian-hospitals-are-reportedly-overflowing-with-rus-n2604464 — who knows what the real figure is, the fact is the 72hr deadline is dead and buried and RU will never control the country even if they ‘take’ all of it.

Which brings up an interesting supposition — NATO as its configured is a bloated overkill response. RU does not have full airspace dominance but neither does UA. The whole effort is a ground based affair. So citizens carrying Kolinskovs and Molotovs can stymie a RU column thanks to the current weather conditions? Might be better to follow the Swiss model — every home is an armory.

Then we have this sQ#$%^ being floated — https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/03/lust-war-42-gop-senators-including-mitch-mcconnell-call-joe-biden-send-migs-ukraine-bomb-russians/

Under the radar of all the other BS in the world. Another one of our esteemed allies, Saudi Arabia, beheaded 81 men in one day for terrorism and other assorted crimes. A new record for them, but who’s counting. After all, I’m certain these terrorists all received an above-board, fair trial.

Sorry to be cynical, but since our government started calling the 1/6 protestors terrorists and Trudeau calling people illegally parking their trucks in no-parking zones terrorists, the word just doesn’t mean much to me.

The goober doesn’t know his tank camo from reactive armor.. but what the residents have to say is VERY interesting… particularly so in what the residents say happened on UA’s pullout from Volnovakha (this is a key road junction town ~25nm north of mariupol).

I disagree strongly with PRPs idea of letting gov’t propaganda dictate our response to Covid.
But I’ll give him credit on recommending econ commentator Luke Gromen.
The guy makes sense and explains well.

Example, we’ve been spending way more than we take in for decades now. ObamaCare can be looked at as a way to salvage gov’t spending on healthcare. Instead of spending more and more, they required young healthy kids to been insured for health. That way, they got a bunch more people paying into the fund. I knew OCare required universal membership but I hadn’t put together how it was a way to relieve one of the overspending pain-points.
Lots of insights about what’s gone wrong, how disaster has been staved off and how maybe we are finally coming to a conclusion (because it’s not just the US of course, pretty much all nations are facing similar econ problems)
