Who is Going to Fix It?

I direct the reader to follow this link first – https://charleshughsmith.blogspot.com/2022/06/whos-going-to-fix-whats-broken.html

Interesting tale Mr. Smith spins. Maybe he should run for Congress. Yes I mean that. Stripping the three events to their bare essentials, what Mr. Smith rails against is first a pure political situation in real time. No its not a ‘supply chain problem’ which seems to be the current replacement for ‘the computer said so’. Quite the contrary. This set of events are simple case studies that any IT systems analyst or operational research specialist see all the time.

It goes something like this:

  1. Efficiency is demanded from some organization. Computerization offers the best solution at the time.
  2. Specifications are let. Code set. Costs and funding completed. Training ensues. Operational thruput increases.
  3. Time passes. No changes made or needed.
  4. Eventually some politican makes a change to a law that impacts the organization.
  5. The legality is consider too trivial to mod the current system. Management implements a manual workaround. Life moves on.
  6. More changes are passed. More workarounds implemented.
  7. New management takes over. Review of needs and suggest an overhaul of the code. Management is informed there is no funding pending for a rewrite. Manage it best you can.
  8. Changes pile up year after year. System is still what is was a decade ago but half the workload is now handled manually. Half the staff barely know how to use the system anyway as training dollars have been stripped away.
  9. Rinse and Repeat. No one is fired for the incompetence, least of all the polticians.

Its an old story that has been repeated time after time by empires and industry since before the Assyarians. Is it a breakdown akin to the Roman Empire? Depends on whose life is being interrupted for the most part. Can problems like this be fixed? Sure. Anything man screwed up and be unwound as well. Which brings me to the conclusion of this little tale of woe.

“No law or change of an existing law should be proposed without a proper impact statement and resulting funding allocated.”

At the Federal level we have such a law, the APA, Administrative Procedure Act. The problem is it lacks sufficient teeth to prevent CongressCritters from passing unfunded liabilities and specifically targeted at federal agencies. That needs to change.

It’s amazing how many things are broken today that weren’t broken 17 months ago – the economy, the border, crime was broken, but it’s much worse today, energy independence, even the baby formula shortage.

“Who is going to fix it?”

No one, there is too much vested interest in perpetuating “problems”…or creating new ones.
I’ve used this analogy before, but it still applies:

A Marriage Counselor in a small town only has 10 couples paying him to “counsel” them. One day Mr. & Mrs. Smith start their weekly session by announcing they have not only reconciled, but have re-kindled their love…and will no longer need his services. The Counselor realizes 10% of his business is about to disappear, and so says:
That is WONDERFUL. Mrs. Smith, the fact that you can look past your husband having slept with every cocktail waitress in town, is remarkable. And it is so splendid that Mr. Smith here is willing to fund your drug addiction himself, rather than you having to keep turning tricks at the truck-stop to pay for it, shows real devotion. I guess he won’t be telling his golf buddies you are a ‘worthless crack-whore’ anymore. And you, Mrs. Smith, won’t be describing him to your Bridge Club as a ‘Limp-dick hamster’. Congrats, you two!”

Naturally, Mr. & Mrs. remain in the excellent care of the Marriage Counselor to this day.

Have sports totally lost their mind? I realize calling NASCAR a sport is a stretch, since it simply requires making left turns for several hours

I don’t know who has the least awareness of who its fan base is – NASCAR or MLB?

Question: Isn’t NASCAR being transphobic by having shirts only in men’s and women’s sizes and styles? What about the 537+ other genders? Isn’t NASCAR being homophobic by ignoring them?

    Ya think?

A new report out from Florida Medicaid finds that “puberty suppression, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures” used to treat gender dysphoria “do not conform” to generally accepted professional medical standards, which is a condition of coverage. The announcement, which emphasizes the dangers for minors but applies to Florida Medicaid in general, comes on the heels of Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo’s guidance rejecting such damaging procedures in April.

You don’t have to be David to fight Goliath and you don’t have to be Atlas to shrug. In “Revolution in America,” I made the case that withdrawal of scrip en masse from America’s highly leveraged financial system would undermine the foundation of the Ruling Caste’s tawdry empire. I’m not going to make that case again—interested readers can click the link—but it still stands. In a system as leveraged as ours, mass withdrawal, a preemptive bank run, would be David’s rock and sling.

Disclaimer: I’ve never watched a single lap of a NASCAR race, let alone attended a NASCAR event.

That said, even I know EXACTLY who the NASCAR fan base is…and it’s NOT the LGTBQXK.7++P@ crowd. The opening paragraph of the article linked below is spot on.

I have no gay pride. I don’t have gay hatred, either. I simply don’t care very much. It’s enough for me that our laws give people equal protection and most Americans no longer consider homosexuality a sin. And that’s probably enough for most people. And I bet most people, like me, dislike the annual barrage of mandatory love for the LGBTQ+++ crowd and especially dislike the industry that’s sprung up around confusing kids about their biological sex and then giving them expensive, mutilating surgery and toxic drugs. These same people almost certainly don’t make up NASCAR’s fan base. Corporate NASCAR, however, has decided to stand with the LGBTQ++ activists

The ALPHABET-SOUP activists have progressed this way:
    – We want to be left alone (I.e., don’t PERSECUTE us)
    – We want to be accepted (I.e., don’t even THINK about persecuting us)
    – We want to be PRAISED (I.e., you must CELEBRATE us)
    – We DEMAND you let us groom your children to BE like us (I.e., you must KNEEL before us)

    I’m way beyond fed up!

Jim, I hope you’re right. While i do believe America can turn things around, I truly believe it will take a disaster of untold proportions to force America to do so.

I still cringe every time I remember George W. Bush’s two HORRIBLE pronouncements immediately after 9/11:
    (1) “Get down to Disney World in Florida. Take your families and enjoy life, the way we want it to be enjoyed.
    (2) “The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace.

NO call for sacrifice from Americans…or call to arms!

NO call for American Muslims to condemn what their faith STILL calls for: Conversion -or- Subjugation -or- Enslavement -or- DEATH! Those are the ONLY 4 options they truly offer. They “co-exist” only until they can force on of those 4 options down everyone’s throat!
